Had to pause into the first 3 seconds. You was set for a great start on that clapping and energy!! I could feel your enthusiasm on getting this one done. 47min!! LET'S GOOOOO
Thank you for putting in the work for us! I recently discovered the ADAM and I think it is still going to be my pursuit of choice. "Keep Doing That Voodoo That You Do!"
To my surprise, I actually kinda liked ADAM the most out of the 3 pedals. The distortion just have this gritty and cool character to it, and you can always pull back the blend and mids a bit, if it sounds too "in your face".
I have an ADAM and I've seen so many people saying the Infinity is better that I was expecting to be disappointed at my pedal since I only have it for a few months. But man... That was a surprise. I liked the ADAM better too. Not that I don't like the pedal. After some work with it and taking the time to set both my bass and the pedal, I am SUPER HAPPY about it.
What an awesome comparison video! I personally own the ADAM and I absolutely love how it sits in a Full Band Mix, I was also very curious to hear how the Infinity would sound in a more metal context, contemplating if I should buy one in the future.
If I needed to explain these units to someone I would say the ADAM is for snappy tone with zingy distortion, the AlphaOmega is a round more traditional sounding distortion and the Infinity fills the middle ground with a bit more lows than the ADAM, growly distortion that is still snappy on the higher register. If I had to choose one it would have to be a lot based on features because all 3 tones are great and usable. If I could have all of them ADAM on preset 1, Infinity on 2 and AlphaOmega on 3
It's so blindingly obvious that the ADAM is designed to sit in a band mix, and not be soloed (which makes sense considering who helped design it). Soloed it tends to sound fizzy and harsh, but it just slots into a distorted band mix so incredibly well. I still like my Photon best for drive tones for sure. I miss that tube saturation tone that the VMT/Infinity offers, but the fatness of the drive tones keeps my Infinity GAS at bay (for now).
what is really noticeable - ADAM has more in-your-face lows, its attack just makes the mix sound a tad more brutal and defined compared to rest. Also in the mix it gives a feeling of more overall hi-end presence. All sound good though at the end)
i combine the photon for my clean preamp with the adam for the distortion, chorus , fuzz and cabsim a very processed tone but it is just the ultimate darkglass that i think of
I considered the ADAM. I purchased the Alpha/Omega and returned it after one gig. Purchased the Infinity and love it for both the vintage and B3K distortions AND the multiband "X" features. Now I'm stuck deciding whether to gig with the Infinity, or my recently purchased e500, which I am also loving!!! Decisions decisions...Thank you for this pedal review and confirming my choice!!!
I think the ADAM sounds best during the just bass sections, but when the whole band is playing hard, I feel like the Infinity cuts through best. I do think both of those are probably heavily influenced by how you dialed things in though. Thanks for the comparison. That was a ton of work. 🤘
Thanks for the great video, very interesting to have all these 3 amazing pedals in the same context, with the fullband mix to the bass only sound. It helps a lot an intermediate player like me (I try to convince myself I'm intermediate...) to realize how a bass only sound realistically feels in a complete mix. I was already leaning towards the Photon and your video confirms me on this. And surprisingly to me, the ADAM reached the 2nd place when I thought it would be the Infinity. But for now, I think it's time for me to buy some better fingers than a new pedal I guess...
Good work man! Love the comparison 1 to 1, I personally found the ADAM and Infinity most appealing, I like the ADAM for the blending tone, but I feel the tone is way more controlled with the infinity.. Am glad to be able to stay happy with my choice of the X family, and not feel like I'm selling out xD
When all the instruments play I don't hear a major difference. However, during the calm parts character can be heard better. Adam 3:084:35 AO 6:518:19 Infinity 10:3312:00 Frankly speaking, IDK. I would play with EQ and other settings and most likely it would be possible to find more similar sound and fit them all in the mix. Alpha omega has too much mids and cuts through, infinity is a bit bassy, adam fits good, but it doesn't mean that it will sound the same in your mixes. And again you always can cut/boost the midrange etc... Adam -> Infinity -> AO In this section I like AO the most, it is the most tight sounding, gives energy without muddiness: Adam: 3:52 AO: 7:35 Infinity: 11:16
Man... One day i saw your video with comparisons and now I'm happyest than evere with my yamaha bb735 and microtubes x7)))) i feel that soon i could make another one good decision because of you))) thanks for what you doing and hi from Ukraine))
Thank you for this great and helpful video! As for me Photon have most natural and classic sound, that I really love. Infinity is also good, but it's not my sound, so I'll keep my Photon :)
Awesome demo and review, Erik! 😎🤘🏻🎸 these preamps sound phenomenal. I personally like the infinity the most. Especially since I’ve always like the vintage series from darkglass. And I am intrigued by the idea of a vintage microtubes settings with a multi-band feature. I would definitely go with the infinity if I ever needed a new preamp.
Im late to the party but i need some advice and dont really know where else to turn. Im looking for an all in one pedal that can also connect to my computer without needing another interface. Im torn between these three pedals. Im tempted to go for the Infinity, as it seems to be the most versatile. Also, im a bit less interested in distortion than the other functionality (tuner, reamp, compression, eq, etc) For someone with zero experience running to their computer, which of these pedals would you recommend? Is there something else that would accomplish these tasks better? Any other tips would be appreciated.
@@tarinindell8217 IMHO, the most ”all around” one, tone wise is the ADAM. However, the Infintiy also is a great sounding unit. IMHO, you can’t go wrong with either one. The infinity will probably be the easiest one to set up, tone wise though. The ADAM and the AOP takes a wee bit more work :)
I am using ADAM with Dingwall NG2. I think ADAM has more ding-dong in the mix ;) . All pedals are good. Dingwall has already Darkglass Electronics, it's always a good combination.

Before this video I thought Ininity > Photon > Adam. Now I'm Adam > Infinity > Photon. I'm pretty sure I would be happy with any of these 3 pedals though. My VT Bass DI is trembling... lol
Great demo dude. I've been considering one of these pedals and I thought the Infinity would do it for me because I like a more vintage sound, but I actually prefer the Photon based on this vid.
This video was awesome! I'm definitely pro Alpha Omega! I will say that these pedals are digitally processed where the original pedal design of the B7k and AO pedals are analog. I think there is a variance of tone vs these pedals you demoed and the say the V2 ultra versions.
I think the Infinity had the best "clean" sound, specially in the full mix. The ADAM had almost no low end during the verses and sounded buried. Maybe that's the point? "Sitting in the mix." ADAM also sounded lacking in the Fuzzy part, but that's probably cause the Blend was turned way down. The Photon had more low end and a thump that stood out more to me, specially for the Fuzzy part. Honestly couldn't tell a difference between the Photon and Infinity during the chorus, they both sounded great.
BTW, do you guys know if e500 sounds the same since it is digital? It has all the preamps in it and even more. For example, these pedals lack of fx loop but e500 has it. So maybe instead of buying 3 pedals maybe it worth getting the head. What do you think?
Hi Erik! How are you? This video is great.... suprisingly the ADAM ist the best for me. What settings are you using in the darkglass suite with the ADAM. Greetings Oli
I used the -12 and +12dB setting on the gain in the Suite. Other than that, there’s not much else going on (as the cabsim/IR is happening in Logic and not in the unit itself :) )
So.... Plugging in my NG2 and setting the ADAM to Active, the distortion sound wrecked in the low mids... Like the input gain is way out of control. I have to back the volume, bass, and mids control back on the bass. I'm tuned to G0, NG2 bass, using the stock molly press, and I did set the pedal to Active mode. Any ideas?
@@erikarko I've had not only to set the bass flat, but some of the controls below the detent to tame it. Doesn't happen with the analog pedals before it. O didn't adjust much of anything.. I used the stock Nolly presets.
@@erikarko Canni re-download the stock presets? Haven't tried that yet. Super slammed for time due to the holidays and in a predicament of whether to return it or not if there is a problem before it's too late! 😂

For my ears ADAM has better compressor, truly multi-band, removes all boomy low end from signal. It sounds like studio compressor. The signal is already mastered. So overall signal coming from the chain is more refined and easily sitting in the mix. I had AO Ultra and for me it is a not metal pedal, more like leading tones thing for not super heavy stuff, round, classic tones, bit like a tube stuff. Photon is the same.
