Here after Jonathan Glazer's acceptance speech at the Oscar's several days ago...the parallels are absolutely uncanny.
Both the films 'Julia' and 'Zone of interest' are about WW2 and the evils of the Nazis. In both speeches, both antisemitism and sionist aggression was denounced. In both cases, it took a great deal of courage. The only difference being, Glazer is jewish himself and was not booed, not on stage at least.
And so, almost half a century later, maybe that was an improvement.

This happenned in 1978- LOng before the situation in Gaza. At least she didn't say- I disavow my Judiasm. Well, she wasn't Jewish. Interestingly, that most of the Pro-Pals and ARabs until recently denied the Holocaust ever happenned and claimed the Zionists aka The Jews made it up. Now most of the Pro-pals (Although the ?Syurian President recently made a speech in which he cast doubt on the Validity of the Holocaust) amit it happen, but say the Zionists- aka the Jews are the New Nazis.

This is from 1978, while Gaza was Israel proper. It wasn't till 2005 that Gaza was emptied of Israelis so that Arabs could move in. It was called "land for peace" - that went well, didn't it? 😒

For nearly seven decades, Zionist influence stifled the voices of reason and rationality across the Western world. Anyone who dared to speak out was swiftly labeled an anti-Semite, their livelihoods imperiled.
Consider Vanessa Redgrave's experience about fifty years ago-a prominent figure whose career faced relentless criticism and decline following her courageous production of a documentary shedding light on Israeli atrocities against Palestinians. From IMDb : "Sidney Lumet claimed that he wanted to cast Vanessa Redgrave in the film, but Paddy Chayefsky didn't want her. Lumet argued that he thought she was the greatest English-speaking actress in the world, while Chayefsky, a proud Jew and supporter of Israel, objected on the basis of her support of the PLO. Lumet, himself a Jew, said "Paddy, that's blacklisting!" to which Chayefsky replied, "Not when a Jew does it to a Gentile."

      "Truth to power"? WTF?
DO YOU EVEN GRASP THE MEANING OF THE TERM YOU NIT?
Speaking "Truth to power" isn't a matter of standing up in the middle of a bunch of like-minded folk and telling them what they freaking want to hear.
Speaking Truth To Power is getting up in front of someone who can kill you at will and telling them the Truth, that they aren't the wonderful person they see themselves as. It's Jesse Owens looking Hitler in the eye as he took his gold medals.
It isn't a stupid actress whining about some long-since forgotten event from a podium in downtown LA.
      Imbecile.

One of the nominees should have been Terri Garr, Melinda Dillon's co-star in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. She gave such a strong and credible performance as a suburban, discontented wife whose life is turned upside down by the escapades of her UFO-searching husband that you sometimes forget you're watching what is supposedly a sci-fi movie.

Out of context, yes Vanessa's speech seems a bit extreme. But when you realize that actually the Jewish Defence League where burning effigies of her outside and endlessly lobbying, threatening, the Academy not to award Vanessa an award she undoubtedly deserved because she made a Palestinian film, only then do you realise it is entirely appropriate that she addressed them here, and call them 'hoodlums'. I have no doubt Hollywood's reaction would be different if she condemned the Arabs instead.
