    Another gem, Mike, in both the lure and the video. I'm amazed, though, that you took this complex bait all the way through final finish work before testing its action! That's not like you. It looks good in the water, but I wonder if the side to side vibration would have been even faster and more pronounced with less lead in the center section. Seven-plus ounces is a LOT of weight in a 7"lure. I wonder how this big lipless crankbait's action compares to that of the excellent "shimmy" in the big, orange, lipped crankbait you built two years ago.
    Thanks so much for the experimentation with Diamond Coat and your discoveries. I bought some a month ago because I, too, was looking for a finish coat that was thinner and wouldn't hide subtle contours. Now, because of your work, I know how to use it for optimal results. Best, Chris (in Maine)

    I experienced the same thing with kbs. I looked online when I had issues and read that sometimes putting it on the rotisserie can make it bubble because of the drying time and it is constantly moving. I started letting it drip cure and had better results. Learned that the hard way in the beginning. It's great when it turns out, but it can be finicky. Great job on the bait. Looks amazing!

    Loved your video...very well done indeed! We make our lures very similarly (I focus mostly on Striper and Bass designs); I was going to say that the foil can be very tricky as it "ages"...have had several beautiful lures foil "crinkle" in time which is frustrating to say the least. I see you like to take creative liberties with your color which is quite a dazzling display of skill. No doubt a cruising Wahoo would find your offering irresistible..! Subscribed and I look forward to your other works - tight lines!

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but I have found that you need to be quick and careful so as not to heat the wood or you can cause it to off-gas and make more bubbles. What I learned about KBS is that it needs to be applied in very thin layers.

    This lure somewhat resembles a Luhr-Jensen Sugar Shad from the 80s. It had fins molded into the body but other than that it's similar.

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with that one; had to look it up. I see what you mean about the fins. I wonder how those affect the action? Interesting!

    • @turdferguson5300
      @turdferguson5300 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zimmtex I would think fins dampened the action. This was never a wonder bait for me, I did better with the Rattle Spot and Rattletraps. These were more of a cover water quickly search bait for me. In the early 90s my Ranger had a factory installed flasher in the dash and my power poles were on the end of a rope. We still had to search for fish. A new fully rigged 361 Comanche was $25K, what are they today 98K. Gosh I'm old...

    KBS will always have bubbles. It’s got a short shelf life and about a 70% waste factor if you don’t use it in a month or so. That’s my experience. Perhaps try the spray KBS

    • @robhowardlivefree5519
      @robhowardlivefree5519 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KBS is awesome! Keep in glass jar in a dark cool place, with some cling film under the lid. Change the cling film each time you use it. Dip your lures slowly, don't use a brush and you shouldn't have any issues with bubbles. I have been using the same jar of kbs for months!

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I have moved my KBS into a jar and store it in A cool dark place to hopefully keep it longer. I have used the spray version of KBS a couple of times, but I do not believe it is durable enough for fishing lures as you can easily scratch through it with your fingernail.

    How do you transfer the gill pattern from the paper to the lure

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! You draw your pattern on one side, then tape it drawing side to the window. The window acts as a makeshift light box so you can draw the pattern again on the back side of the paper. Then when you put it on the lure and draw over it again it will transfer the graphite to the lure. Thanks for watching!

  • @toph2o676
    @toph2o676 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd like to make a suggestion to you concerning your rattles. Whatever size hole you use for your rattles if you take a hollow ground steel punch and out a piece of aluminum or aluminum can piece super glue it to the wood and when the BB hits it'll be pretty damn loud. Also you'll find there's a big difference in using lead as opposed to a brass BB. Also just dip the entire lure in the kbs and hand by wire from nose and you'll eliminate all the problems you just created.

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't think about a BB sleeve, but it did occur to me that a plate at at the ends would be better. I like this KBS, but I'm definately learning some lessons the hard way. Thanks for the tips and for watching!
