One day Westberg is gonna hit Gira with a medical bill for crippling arthritis due to playing one chord for 40 years. Been listening since '99. I was 17. I don't think I'll ever stop.
Years before I bought Greed and Holy Money, The Burning World was my first Swans experience. Bought it on cassette in a cutout bin in 1991 and enjoyed it. I know Michael Gira hates it and it's considered a failure but I wish it would be remastered and rereleased.
@@hellmik Eh, whatt? Me? You are clearly mistaking what I wrote for something else... Anyway, I'm not a native speaker, man, so I don't care about such things at all, read the direct message itself as it is.
This live version of "See No More" has the evocative power of the bunny albums, especially the finale! A pity it doesn't sound as good on "The Burning World".
Almost any live version of Burning World material you can find is better than that record. It was a record that could have been like the bunny records or even Children of God, but the band was in transition (read: Gira was behaving poorly towards band members and drove them away one by one except Jarboe) and Bill Laswell just wasn’t the producer for them.
@@MDK2_Radio Especially the live versions in 1988, when Al Kizys was still in the line-up. There's a few shows on here worth checking out (Paradiso 1988 is a powerful show) that really reveal what the record could've been had they gone into a studio sooner.
Thanks for uploading - ....why did they 'disown' the 'Burning World' lp ? . Was it due to the polished production ? , as this performance sounds more like the 'White light ....' lp ( & more listenable than 'Filth ' , ' Public Castration ....' records ) ...
Live is always as good if not better than 'proper' Swans output. Not many musicians are capable of playing live at all for that matter. That's where Gira steps in.
@@brasikurtz I'm pretty sure it's Vincent, too. Based on the fact that you can see him drumming in other footage from this tour/era, plus Virgil quit the band before the Burning World tour commenced - according to the book.
See No More See God's sun go down behind that hill Then see God's sons go down that lonely road Then see God's sun fall behind that hill in darkness Then see God's sons go down that godforsaken road Then see us need more Then see no more Then see, see no more Then see, see no more See us deliver where other men will fail Then see us hold Heaven while others burn in Hell Then see us, God's sons, guarding Heaven's gate Then see our sun go black because we made one mistake Then see us need more Then see no more Then see, see no more Then see, see no more
It's not a "need", it's just an interesting option. Something new would be born out of it, but I sincerely doubt if better. Every set of songs has its time. There's no other album like this one in Swans' discography which is a value in and of itself, many really good songs are present there too. While if one likes the sound of this album or not, it's a personal matter.

i was 15 when i was listining first time SWANS (COP+HOLY MONEY). that was in 1992.
Great quality for 89. Doesn't constantly cut every 3 seconds like modern "pro shot" live show.
never seen Kristohf playing upright. cool.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Any more from this set? Stellar quality.
I would also like to know the answer to this, but I don't think it will ever be answered.
There's more just not in public circulation quite yet

what were the other songs they performed, exact date this happened if you know by any chance?
This band is crazy af!
Damn! I know he's German, but at 1:42 Cristoph Hahn looks way too German!
Jawohl
He kinda resembles a shoebill to me.
Lmao
Your papers had better be in order when he shows up.

Damn, far superior than the studio version on "The Burning World"
I agree, has a better energy to it, more raw
Live shows from the Burning World era show what it could've been.
The songs & songwriting are honestly good. Production & recording ruined the album.
@@DeadAccount97 Nothing like "ruined". Just made it different and "less Swans". But still excellent, beautiful and one of a kind.

my favorite swans record - thank you for the upload
I think this one might be the best quality and live version on the internet :) YES!
File this under: Things that can never vanish from youtube!
One of my favorites songs, the band is amazing live. THANKS

what song is this?

I love seeing Gira possessed by booze and speed
Well...Gira WAS an alcoholic during the tail end of the first incarnation of Swans so you're not entirely wrong lol.
Dunno what you're talking about. He looks sober as a judge.
@@tomosmansounds During White Light he drank a lot, that was the reason Jarboe broke up with him later

Where does this come from? Do you have anymore of the show?
And to think that this tour was in support of their “worst” album
Bill Laswell fucked that album up
Do people feel that way about this album? I know its easier to get into but it’s literally perfect
In my opinion this burning world is one of their best albums

Anyone know who the 2nd guitarist (Norman Westberg?) bassist and drummer are here??
Yes it is probably norman. The drummer is Virgil Moorefield and the bassist is either Algis Kizys or Sami Kumpulainen
