- [Stereo feed] This is the entire footage that includes Sonic Youth performing and being interviewed, from this USTV program, in support of the album "Dirty".
I had shared a re-broadcast of just "100%", earlier, which had probably been remixed slightly. Here is the original feed on that date, for the purists out there.
That Kool thing version is explovise!! Steve Sheley’s drumming is so good.
The early nineties was a great time for music.
I like your tool photo dude
Thurston was 73 years old here. Looks pretty good.
Steve Shelley simply KILLIN' THEM DRUMS!!!!!
The time when MTV was nice.
Are you kidding? Imagine listening to those songs in between cuts
Lee Ranaldo: "Wait... No Soundgarden. It's another band from Seattle... with Nirvana.."
I saw people doing the drum stick thing on their guitar yesterday. Thats when I realized this band was inspiring for many people.
"WHO-HOOOAA, IT'S SONIC YOUTH!!!1! THEIR NEW ALBUM IS CALLED DIRTY! IN STORES NOWWWW. So guys, tell us about why your record's called DiRtY?!?1?"
Kim: "Well, it was sort of based off the artwork - this artist Mike Kelly. And um, he goes out and he gets dirty stuffed animals from Salvation Armies - just a ridiculous series of work that he did. And it sort of represents this sort of cast-off childhood repression/loss of innocence/nostalgia for innocence; it really ties in with the American puritan ethic."
"HAHA - ALRIIIIIIGHT!"
Lee: "How's that for your daytime TV viewers?"
You can tell, by the host's enthusiasm that people, like him, were desperate for something new to become mainstream.
The riff on Kool Thing is . . . well . . . super cool. Amazingly good version.
By time Kim finishes the spoken word part, this band is exploding
10:37 wild guitar move from thurston
Really cool stuff! Loved the image and sound quality too!!
popkorn Thanks for stopping by and leaving a note of appreciation, and glad you enjoyed it :)
popkorn has
It really is another-level type sh&* What is more year 1992 than Sonic Youth on MTV? This performance was pure chaos and lightning in a bottle. I need to take insurance out on my eardrums every time I listen to it. Thanks for posting.
I had bought dirty album twice. Maybe they called it dirty because behind the cd it had a picture of a dude taking a dump on a stuffed animal
The music mags like to celebrate particular years as especially great for music. 1967 springs to mind. If they haven't done so yet they should definitely give 1992 the same honour. Besides Sonic Youth's Dirty, Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and Faith No More's Angel Dust hit the spot.
"Kool Thing" just ain't the same without Chuck-D's spoken word parts.
Tell it like it is!
thanks for the upload. love sonic youth.
***** Happy you liked the clip, and took the time to say as much. Great period for the band :)
What's for afters? great period for punk in general too :)
holy fucking 90s
the guy at the begining looks like Chad Channing
Steve Shelley is the best
Ohh man, this was so good to see again, damn I'm old.
Kool thing. It's all right there.
Your band can be cool, but it'll never be Sonic Youth cool.
aw bro that's so sad and sweet how they cuddle at the end. surprisingly wholesome tv appearance- "howdy neighbour your local sonic youth" like a fantasy dick clark episode
Was the friend of the band that 100% is dedicated to the memory of the same friend that Henry Rollins spoke of in his spoken-word performances of that era?
Indeed, Joe Cole.
NoEsUnTH-camr: Thanks for that confirmation
I can never forget you the way you rock the girls
They rule the world and love you, a blast in the underworld
I stick a knife in my head thinking 'bout your eyes
But now that you been shot dead, I got a new surprise
But I've been waitin' for you just to say, the Zoftig chick is mine
But all I know is you got no money, but that's got nothing to do with a good time
But can you forgive the boy who shot you in the head
Or should you get a gun and go and get revenge
A 100% of my love up to you true star
It's hard to believe you took off, I always thought you'd go far
I've been around the world a million times and all you men are slime
A gun to my head, goodbye, I am dead
Wastewood rockers, it's time for crime, hey

One of the few times I actually wonder wtf they're trying to do at the end of a song when they all crash around.
I'm not sure if that rolling around Thurston and Kim were doing was supposed to be sexy, but it was weird.
After such performances you got that "lets - break - some - shit" energy thus all those childish, stupid behaviours you hear all the time about "rock stars".
Delhi Delirium it’s punk you assfucks.
People like you two will never understand, and should stay FAR away from all art forms with that attitude.
Sonic Youth giving the middle finger to the MTV audience by amping up the dissonance.
kims like a blonde patti smith
2nd layer SF/
Someone is definitely playing out of key
on 100%???
Guy singing is
Host thinks he's Eddie Vedder
Massive Jazzmaster terrorism by Thurston
In case your wondering, I'm the guy that left the dislilke.
Damn
Yeah, nobody gives a fuck AT ALL :)
Figures. You can’t even differentiate the difference between “your” and “you’re”. Go read a book, breh.
ooo you are so punk
Not the greatest band but they seem to have gained enough of a following to support them
Quite the opposite, I think that they are part of the very few bands who can claim to be the greatest !
complain
Lee Renaldo has beautiful brown skin in this video. Now they look old. Time and life sucks.
No shit?
Funny, I actually used to think this band was good.
They're not a band anymore so they aren't good anymore.
