  • Just showing what the Cub Cadet XT2 SLX54 can do in snow if you are able to find a snowblower attachment ( 19A40024100, 19A40024OEM) . Goes through everything I have thrown at it including slush as long as you don't let it clog the chute.
    I was able to find mine on facebook marketplace last minute as these are obviously not being carried or made right now by dealers. If you are able to find one, I think they are great. This isn't a crazy test but shows what it can do in 8" of medium heavy wet snow. I am glad I went with the SLX54 as it has a slightly bigger engine than the standard xt2. If you skip around you can see what it does to hard packed snow banks near the mail boxes.
    I have 3 - 40lb Iron suitcase weights and 1 - 60lb weight on the back
    I also threw tire chains on the rear. The chains make a big difference for sure and I am glad for the extra weight on inclines as well.

    I've been using a Cub Cadet XT2 GX54 with the 26HP Kohler 7000 engine for a couple years now, I have the 54' fabricated deck and the same 3X 42" blower that you have, I'm using 4 45lb suitcase weights in the rear and a set of 2 link chains. I'm in a Lake Effect snow area so we get a LOT of snow, (yearly average around 180 inches) and my driveway is paved, about 160ft long and 35ft wide, all uphill. This unit does a great job with the snow, and I have a few suggestions to help yours working hard. First, spray the inside of the chute and all the auger area and inside of the blower housing with some Silicone spray, WD-40 or even cooking oil to prevent clogging, works great for me. Second, those really heavy areas near the mailbox and by the end of the driveway, take maybe a half width bite and DON'T run the unit hard into the bank, you'll be replacing shear pins all day, been there, lesson learned. How I do mine is I'll go down the middle of the driveway, blow to one side, turn around in the street and come back up the other way, no swinging of the chute needed. Another thing I like is the Poly (plastic) skid shoes I found, I replaced the steel ones with them. Before I put it back in the garage I always clean as much packed snow out as I can, and once in the garage I have a couple 1"x4" boards I put under the front of the blower to keep it off the floor, and run a small heater in front of it to melt the snow off. So far so good, it takes care of my driveway and a few neighbors when their blowers can't handle big snowfalls.

      Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it. Those are all really good tips. I'll have to try those out especially the spray and heater!

      @@5acrelivingprojects Not a problem, good luck with it. The spray makes a big difference, especially in wet snow, so does the heater, to keep it ready to roll the next time. The part about running into the hard packed bank by the street is to prevent breaking shear pins, trust me, some of them are a pain to get at, you really don't want to be wasting time crawling around on the cold floor replacing them. Otherwise the thing's a beast, it just motors on through snow that's even over the top of the blower.

      @@thomaskirk9341 oh yea definitely. I agree 100% I was more doing it to show the power and capability of the machine but I've broken a ton of sheer pins already and you're right they're no fun to replace! Definitely don't plan on doing that often though

      @@5acrelivingprojects Yes, the shear pins are a pain to replace, especially the ones back in the housing. The weather doesn't bother me hot, cold, snow whatever, but I just want to get the job done without having to wrench on anything. The first times I used the blower I had to replace a few, but I learned my lesson, in fact the Dealer I bought it from educated me on the DON'T's, so that helped. Ever since, no issues, but I keep a spare belt just in case.

      I'm considering getting one of those attachments for my XT2. How reliable has the snowblower been for you? Is it low maintenance? TIA!

      They discontinued the XT3's in the US unfortunately...but they were so ridiculously priced you may as well put the money towards a sub-compact utility tractor at that point.

    I bought this mower recently and I never once thought about the snow blower attachment. Right now I'm paying a neighbor (I live in Maine) and he does a great job but wondering if I can take on the task myself this year if I get the blower. Was wondering what you thought, my driveway is not paved, its gravel/dirt and is about 250 yards long, with maybe 25 total feet of incline.
    Is this actually an option? Not sure if it can handle the length, heavy snow and incline. Any thoughts on this I would appreciate it. Thanks

    • @5acrelivingprojects
      @5acrelivingprojects  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would be fine and probably work great under the right circumstances. You'd probably want to raise the side risers up an inch or so for the first snowfall or two so that you get a compacted layer of snow ice so that you're not picking up a bunch of rocks if they're loose. It could definitely handle the length and with chains and weights but on a step incline it may struggle a bit. In the video the driveway I was doing has a pretty decent incline I'd say it's probably close to 20ish feet of rise from top to bottom also. The only time I've gotten stuck briefly has been after freezing rain that snowed after and I just salted that area a little. The 25hp motor can handle a bunch of snow for sure though! Lastly, if you're really worried a truck with a plow or ATV with a plow would be a good other option but this mower has plenty of power and ability with the 25 horse. Good luck

      Very low besides it blowing through sheer pins, but I guess that has been for mostly good reason. I have a ton of oaks over my driveway and it seems that the large branches love to bury themselves in my snow. It obviously is saving the blades and motor but a slight hassle changing them. Other than that Haven't really done any blower maintenance besides just keeping it garaged!

      I don't think these machines are built like the older models. Sounds like a good bit of strain on the motor so I don't know what the long term use will do... Don't know why many snow blower TH-camrs insist on keeping the shoot in the complete erect position?

  • @lyman135
    @lyman135 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You're going way too fast with the blower. Half the snow is just being pushed out of the blower and left on the ground.

    • @5acrelivingprojects
      @5acrelivingprojects  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've found if I got slow enough to not get any snow coming out the sides, it definitely takes longer than just blazing up and down and leaving the thin trails to also hit at full speed. Thats at least what I've found. I also found on hills it's much easier to get stuck if I go slow even with tire chains.
