What a gem, 6 years later I'm amazed of the clarity and conviction behind his reasoning. I guess future wise this will become even more evident. Thanks for sharing.

Great Wences, fantastic explaination, good also for people like me that already know a bit (and hold) btc and\or other cryptos. it's not surprising that BTC attracted your attention being an Argentinian (lived personally there 8 yrs) with all the crazy past of Argentinian banks and government economic scams & "failures" lol

@Graham Perich i stumbled upon your comment now and i want to thank you for the recommendation. very nice interview (the podcast). i discovered that Wences has my age and when he talked about Argentina he brought me back in time.I had left the country in 2010 and i was subject to currency control even before when , as a foreigner, i could even do less than an argentinian (money transfer wise) even being a resident. in 2011 the situation got worse and currency exchange was simply banned. when i was there i was lucky because there was a limit but i could send money abroad.i also witnessed the fall of the banks in 2001 when argentinians (not me, a tourist back then) got all their accounts frozen. it was mayhem, supermarkets getting looted and express kidnapping (200 $ ransom) was the norm.

Great presentation. Why on 'quality of sound money' slide, gold is shown as superior to bitcoin on fungibility? A bitcoin is a bitcoin - no difference.

Thanks for the good explanation. Perhaps in the issue of transparency will be addressed at additional transactional layers over Bitcoin by applying CoinJoin-based mixing and similar methods.
Here is a more recent talk by Wences Casares, I would recommend, on How Bitcoin Makes a Fairer World: itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/unchained-big-ideas-from-worlds-blockchain-cryptocurrency/id1123922160?mt=2&i=1000401579085

Not everyone to buy bitcoin, but much more people want to buy gold. If I want to liquidate some gold, it will be easier than liquidating bitcoin.
