When Elis is listing his film choices I feel like I'm watching a Woody Allen anxiety scene. His smile of delight/relief when Mark says that one of his choices sounds like it's exactly what a documentary should achieve is very sweet.
i think he is cringing that they are being a bit interupty and not funny and showy offy and not fun, mark and simon. cos i was feeling it, and then it cut to ellis looking the same as me
I flip flap between Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter.. My favourite of the two changes after each viewing... I think at the moment.................... Oooooooooooooooooooooooh, i'd go for Manhunter. I love that 80's Michael Mann look. It looks very similar to Thief, another great film.
I don't want to sound like an accuser but when Mark asked if any of John's films were directed by women, he sounded a bit scornful. However, a look at Kermode's favourite films doesn't include one either. Don't take this too seriously. Just poking fun!
Why bother writing in to complain about a radio 5 show / presenters? Guess what? You can switch off or listen to something else? WWOOAAHHHH mind blown huh? Also, it’s the BBC...it costs you what, £140 a year for allllll these channels and radio broadcasts, and you decide to listen to, and then slag off, shows you don’t like... And in defence of Elis and John specifically-they’re smart, sweet , good natured, caring?and considered as well as being funny and smart comedians. Eli’s doesn’t do stand up any more, not much anyway, but I’ve seen two John shows and they’re really well written, emotional and very very funny. These two are not idiots, they’re not “lads” they’re not full of themselves, they’re not really any of the things people criticise them about... again- chill out, and listen to something ELSE
Well it's the difference between a movie containing non-PC stuff and promoting non-PC stuff innit. Like a film can contain depictions of racism without being racist
Manhunter is a far inferior film to Lambs in terms of its direction. Kermode is quite wrong.Gran Torino is, up til the very end, my favorite of Eastwood's directorial efforts. Oh and the definitive statement on Mary Poppins is when her stand-in is sucked into an airplane turbine in The Simpsons
"A million light years better " childish hyperbole much? If we're going to play by those rules, Silence of the Lambs is clearly a "million light years better" than the flatly directed Manhunter. Jonathan Demme pulled out all the stops for Silence.
I love all these presenters apart from Mayo, who for some reason I can't stand. Of course the BBC pays him more than all the others combined. I can only listen to the Kermode and Mayo film show when he is absent from it.
I know it's horses for course and all that.....but what is there not to like? I think he comes across as professional with a laid back vibe. His interviews on the film show are great with out being sycophantic. But he's also not afraid to voice an opinion (with in BBC guidelines). One of the best broadcasters in the county IMO and treated like shite by BBC radio 2.
The very fact you like Elis and John but not Simon Mayo says all I need to know about your judgement. Simon’s objectively a brilliant broadcaster. Weird opinion.
Yeah, the unfunny dinosaurs who come off massively rude and just unpleasant and overbearing, thankfully have been moved aside for a more positive, and intelligent team
The 2 hosts of one show overlap and talk to the 2 hosts of another show. Why try and turn this into a political agenda? This is 2019, women don't need to be given hand outs and token jobs. Robbins and James are a double act who were head hunted from another station because of their great on air dynamic, and it seems that they have brought their long serving producer with them. Kermode and Mayo I don't know much about other than they have a long lasting association, but shoehorning a female presenter in there just to fulfil a "quota", irrespective of their talents and abilities, just leads to bland mediocre content. Gifting a talented female presenter a job just to fulfil a quota system is patronising at best. There is more than enough female talent out there for the cream will rise to the top, and just because you have male presenters it doesn't necessarily follow that their content is of absolutely no interest to women. All you seem to be seeing is a group of men, and because of the lack of a female voice you instantly dismiss it as gender bias without looking further into it. John Robbins and Elis James have a very broad appeal to both sexes, and if you ever caught their shows on Radio X then you'd understand that they are very very inclusive left leaning and thoroughly decent men, who's listenership is broadly 50/50 men and women. What you're suggesting is just a clumsy politically correct divisive points scoring system, which I suspect you only suggested to make yourself appear clever. That or you're just taking the piss, in which case ignore the above.
No ethnic minorities either. Or disabled people. Not everything can be subject to quotas. Sometimes you just need the best or most knowledgeable person for the job!

john is in a car seat headrest shirt
Producer Dave looks like a young Geoffrey Perkins. Who was also a very talented producer.
I would be honoured to share my 5 favourite films with Mr. Kermode, but likely not pleased.
I work on the 6th floor and I can assure you it is neither hip nor happenin'.

Idkw but I always pictured prod dave with a buzz cut
MK: What's your favourite film?
JR: The Silence of the Lambs
MK: You're wrong.
No, he's right. It's his favourite film.
Dave Masterson is Derren Brown’s greatest illusion yet.
Dave is very handsome… that’s all
Kermode is definitely wrong on Manhunter v Silence of the Lambs, but hey, we all have our blindspots...
Its mostly directed like a music video for Dire Straits
God Dave was a hottie!
John looks star struck and you can see Elis thinking to himself “keep it sesh!!”
yup manhunter FTW
Whats that app called?
I thought the same. They probably can't plug it though.
orange circle oh yeah 😂
It’s called, imaginatively, BIG.
BIG
I've always like Simon Mayo, but by god on camera he looks incredibly grumpy.
"Mahunter is literally a million light years better than Silence of The Lambs" - oh, Kermode - you utter knob.

they were a bit rude to producer Dave, I thought.
He's always a bit of a prick, shame he's not funny enough to pull it off.

Outrageous gender bias by the BBC. 5 men in one room. Where's the female voices??? I think they should implement a quota for number of women per show.
The 2 hosts of one show overlap and talk to the 2 hosts of another show. Why try and turn this into a political agenda?
