- St.Gallen is the beautiful capital of the canton of St.Gallen and is located in the north-east of Switzerland. The landmark of St.Gallen is the baroque cathedral with the Abbey Library, which is the oldest library in Switzerland and is one of the most important historical libraries in the world. Many documents dating back over a thousand years are kept there. The entire abbey district was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
In the charming traffic-free old town of St.Gallen there are many beautiful old buildings with typical colourfully painted bay windows. The charming location in the four-country corner of Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Principality of Liechtenstein close to Lake Constance makes St.Gallen the ideal starting point for excursions to Appenzellerland, the Säntis and of course Lake Constance.
