My first lure, given to me by my grandfather. A timeless classic. Possibly the best lure ever made.

Pretty sure it IS the best lure ever made. That and a Mepps spinner will sure catch a lot of fish.

Watched your video in 6-7-23…….went down to my “tackle store” in the basement, grabbed one, used it today and caught a 16” LM on my 3rd cast! Twitch, Twitch…..thanks for reminding me!

This is the Rapala that l would love to get again as it brings back memories in Africa in those days.

I have fished most of my life but this year I started really getting into it. I picked up the Silver (black top) one and the Gold (orange top) one. Oddly, the Gold one has been my go to. After I bought the Gold one, I caught my first smallmouth with it after only 3 casts. I am hooked. 😉

I’ve got some good memories with this lure for sure, there’s times it don’t work , and then there’s times it really works . Just takes the right timing .

Caught a lot of smallies on those wading a creek growing up. Passed it on to my kids, a real treasure.

I seem to remember hearing in the nineties that people fished these on carolina rigs. You ever try that?

Classic lure! This and the countdown are fish catchers. Randy. Could you please give us your take and experiences with the countdown?

That lure got me hooked on bass fishing long ago. Use it to this day!

Caught 2 Giants on it just reeling it...I agree Randy, folks don't use em much anymore.but in florida I'm using it alot. Creeks, and shallow ponds it pulls in some bigguns. 3 to 5 lb fish smoke it💥🎣👍. Favorite colors are the perch and bright orange, and gold sided ones. The 4 inch ones, and I upsize the hooks 1 size to help it suspend better, or add few dots, and strips to the belly.

I have been fishing with them for almost 50 years. My go to is the size 13, either gold/black or silver/black. I like to remove the rear treble and replace it with a feathered one.

Likewise, the bass are chasing shad here in VA, and I’ll put the old Storm Chug Bug up against ANY other topwater lure.

I’ve caught more bass on this lure than all the new techniques today . Maybe Becuase I fished more back then 😂

I probably should have been throwing one of those today. Several bass followed a few different lures just couldn't get them to bite very well. Got Skunked Lol

The twitch and pause is a great technique but not to many anglers have the patience to fish it like that .

I don't know about bass, but in the saltwater I always had better luck with the broken back Rapalas.

These Rapalas work great on a straight retrieve, as well, or straight retrieve with intermittent pauses and twitches. This is also the lure I started bass fishing on and that is the way I had always used it. My father, who is not the most skilled fisherman just pulled in a 18" largemouth on the #11 just this past weekend on a simple straight retrieve with some highly pressured fish, he claims its his PB!

Great lure for walleye trolling and casting! To this day I still use it. Have been collecting Rapalas all my life and always will.

Use that surface twitch, with an occasional pull under the surface, for smallmouth in rivers.

Another great video! Do you change the hooks?

    • @richardbossman9875
      @richardbossman9875 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Advisable, almost all older lures came with garbage hooks AND split rings. Throw some Gamakatsu nano light trebles swinging from Owner split rings and you’re set.
