I really appreciate the videos. I’ve been an import auto mechanic for 30yrs so obviously I am weak on my knowledge of repairing air brake systems. I’m about to purchase a vehicle with air brakes so these are helpful. Is there an “average” lifespan of brake chambers or is it just luck of the draw as far as how long they’ll run?
It doesn't matter if if the truck us running or not, what does matter is if the system is supplied with air.charge with the system Chock the wheels release the brakes and listen if its leaking set brakes follow instructions in video
ok guys, now you know how to inspect brake chambers............i'm not so sure............if i was watching to learn i would not feel too confident from this video..........first of all you didn't inspect ,,,,,,,you were talking about changing............second,,,,,,,,you should have had a complete spring brake chamber on a bench so you could see the whole item and then take it apart and assemble completely,,,,,,,,,,,,then i would feel confident ........i see that you know what you are talking about but somebody trying to learn would have more questions than answers,,,,,,,,,,in my opinion......thanks.....
The results of the September safety blitz have been released and it appears about 20% of all out of services were ABS issued. Hard to conceal while riding down the road with a yellow light illuminated on the left rear. 😂 Is this something that you have experience with your Kenworth fleet? Mine comes on randomly and have no idea what to look for.
the guitar1962 can you please elaborate a little more on the safety blitz you are referring to.......i don't know what this is,,,,,,,,,,,,and also please tell me more about this yellow light on the left rear,,,,,,,,,what is this all about........i have been retired for 11 years and have fallen behind on new stuff.........this yellow light really baffles me,,,,,,,,,,,,,PLEASE EXPLAIN,,,,,,,,,,,THANKYOU
@@yardlimit8695 Sure thing.Today's newer trailers have a yellow light right above the left side rear lower marker light. So you can ride down the road and show all passersby you have and issue with your trailer ABS system. Safety blitz are usually 3 or 4 day periods where the DOT check more trucks much more aggressively for out of service type safety issues.
Talk to a half dozen mechanic's, and not one told me to check the inside of the chamber for a broken spring. Great video!!!!
Why does air have to be supplied to the trailer to back the brakes off, if you have caged the brake chamber?

Just the luck of the draw. They last a long time though
Would I still hear a brake chamber leak when the truck is off or should it be on?

if spring air brake booster diaphragm internal leakage what happened??
That means there is a tear, or a scarring in the diaphragm.

So how do you inspect it for leaks? Where do they leak from?
You will hear them hissing
Say you hear a leak coming from the dust cover hole. The cover isn’t on anymore. It shouldn’t matter if its on or off though correct. Obviously
The cap on the break chamber should it alway be kept plugged in? Or it can just hang lose ?
It’s supposed to be plugged but most of the time they aren’t
@@KoonTrucking okay thanks
u said how to inspect a brake chamber not how to cage one...
What length is that caging bolt socket?
Extra deep socket

Just pull the plug off the back
@@shottava9314 just hope the scales don't notice it or it's gonna be a hefty ticket
Should not be required to have a system that does not work.
don't do it. they are cheap replace if you think there an issue. if you don't know what your doing you could loose your mellon.
Even new ones sometimes need to be disassembled to be properly clocked.
would you not shut air off to trailer before removing chamber cap after caged?
Bad Intent inc. Bad Intent inc. the line were cut off to the chamber that is what the vise grips or hose clamp pliers are for.
I thought so, wasn't exactly clearly identified in video or I missed it.thanx for reply.
