Yep Childhood Memories of my primary School next to the Worcester Paddington line and Going on Holidays as a Youngster which was Very Exciting, so I kinda like the old Hornby and Lima stock that was available in the 70-90’s that I can repurpose or rejuvenate - I love looking at the old Books for Referencing Interesting Freight Consists - I’m thinking of doing Destination boards for my collet coaches, but I was gonna use white tack (not Glue), to fix the boards to the coaches then they can be removed or Changed as Required.. 👍🏻
for my own layout I'm basing it on my memories of my home town, but not an era. Anything that you find appealing to your own history then do it. I have street names and buildings but not in their correct locations. Destination boards - make them applicable to you, but not prototypical Evening Star - I think I might paint it and run it as a special preservation loco but leave her as Evening Star, in black Crane - highly weathered and rusted, always worth a good look at any exhibition. As to the modified coach colour, pink
@@bramelsheretan my daughter said pink too :) Thanks for all your comments mate and sharing your layout details, quite like the idea of areas with memories. On some of my older videos I made stations and other stuff but names them after my kids.
-Mine is essentially a 'heritage' line which is to have a mainline running alongside so I can run whatever locos I like. As I live in Washington the EC is nearby and there is much talk of a revival of the old Leamside line from Durham (and slightly south) to Tyneside so anything will go!
Boro lad so not that far from you. Was thinking of that idea when I bought the 2 scotsman, but still running in the 60s anyway. Thanks for commenting mate.
I picked an era - I did experience BR Blue pre-tops in my train spotting days, but I also dimly remember the last of steam, and because I really love steam as well as first generation diesels, I picked era 5 (early 1960s). Although I was only a wee thing at that time, I can run the same diesels that I remember from a bit later (and some I saw still in BR green up to 1970), but I also get to run a whole bunch of steam. The other reason I restrict myself to an era and an area, is that it greatly reduces the number of things I might choose to buy. There are loads of gorgeous products out there, and having boundaries helps me have some discipline.
@@little_britain I agree with the discipline bit, definitely helps to be restricted. Sounds like your kind of same era I planned. Thanks for sharing mate.
I started off trying to stick to an era, but having little self control I bought some locomotives that don't fit just because I thought they looked terrific. I'm not going to venture into modern day because the rolling stock is stupidly expensive even if I could get loco's at reasonable prices. I'm sticking with steam and green diesels and just running what I have without worrying about much else. I just love my 'toy train's', and I'll enjoy them my way. I really don't think it should matter. We're all different. As long as you enjoy yourself that should be your main aim I'd say...
@Manchild-o7d everyone has the same problem, more time period you cover, the more you want to spend. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments, thanks for sharing mate. Paul
I like your take on this subject Paul but for me totally fantasy with a bit of Southern Railway when I worked in Eastleigh works . Also the name Wilbury travelling any period or place 😊
My layout is called Attercliffe Road. The real Attercliffe is a area in Sheffield that was the home to the steel works that were mostly closed in the 1970s/80s a still trading steel works is ' Forgemasters'. Attercliffe now is mostly run down . My layout is not a super detailed one the buildings on it are industrial I don't tire myself to a era never have but base it on area. Most of my rolling stock is freight but do have passenger stock locos wise its mostly diesels . Attercliffe had railway scrap yards one famous loco that got scrapped their was ' Lion' .

As for the 9F, I got an a new old stock Railroad 9F for £109 (I know, a lot of money), but it runs so well I didn't regret it one bit.
@@little_britain amazing loco mate.
