  • This fruit press was well worth the investment. We had so many scuppernongs that needed juicing that we bought a fruit press and we are well pleased with the result we got. One quart of juice in about 5 minutes.

    Oh many years ago there was an abandoned orchard we got peaches and tons of apples! My parents sprung for a press like yours, one or two sizes up. We took it out to friends on their farm, was spacewise a good idea. We let them keep it. Our free apples ran out as well, the Orchard became a new surf village. ... and I really don't have a lot of fruit I'd need it for, but it sure brings back the memories!!!

    I want one if I can find a good supply of fruit and I think I can . With my two great grand daughters we make jelly and jam and give much of it to family members. I missed the wild elderberry harvest this year in Indiana but promised them that we won't do that again . Pap in Indiana .

    Evening Mr Danny & Mrs Wanda, I'm in East Texas and we have muscadines here. My MoMA use to always make jelly. I honestly didn't know they were actually grapes. Glad you set me straight. I need to purchase one of these crushers . I love grape juice. Probably could do other juices also.

    We have one of the monster size presses that you have to use the wood blocks with and it is a bugger to move around and set up. Hubby wanted the big one because he was making wine and needed to press enough to get about 25 gallons of juice. Whew! that was a lot of work. We don't do that anymore, but I may have to suggest setting it back up to press apples for cider. Thanks for this one Danny and Wanda.

    My dad has one of these for squeezing grapes for wine. With seedy fruit you may want to use a paint strainer bag for a 5 gallon bucket. Otherwise you may have to lose some juice or pick some seeds out of your juice. The fuller you fill it the better it works. And add more fruit once you think you've got all the juice out. You will find there is more in there.

    That's awesome! Thank you for sharing. I ordered one of those fruit presses from Better Choice Products a couple years ago. Never tried it and honestly forgot about until now. So thank you for sharing. You can take the spent grapes and make vinegar from it (or feed the pigs or chickens). I know when I'm making wine from my grapes, I don't have a crusher. I just take each grape and crush between 2 fingers as I go. Gives me a chance to inspect each one for blemishes or insects.

    I see the crusher is still unavailable. Have you found another one to use this year 2021? The price on the press is too high for the amount of muscadines I would use it for. I hand slip pulp and seeds out of the crushed skins and then heat the pulp then the hot pulp goes through a colander leaving seeds behind to give me jam. I freeze or can more of it as pure pulp than with sweetened and pectin jam. If the black muscadines have edible skin, I grind them with food processor and add back to the pulp for dark purple pulp. The pulp is good for cobblers and other desserts, add to ice cream, cereal, or Jello.

    What happened with Wanda's steam juicer.

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we want fresh juice to drink, we use the chinois which is hard on Wanda's wrists. So This will give us the fresh juice we like to drink. Steaming is great if you are making jellies. Or if you want to add back a sweetener. It seems to take out the sweetness when steamed. You can still taste the fruit, so it makes great jellies.

    What's the point of sticking bag in?
    Heck you could use regular cheese cloth bags used for brewing etc then.
    Wouldn't the fresh ones helped if you would of squished them with your hands first?
    No offense just curious

    Do you reckon that crusher attachment would work for sugar cane? I’ve looked at sugar cane mills and I’m not happy with what I’m finding.

      And you would have a sour taste in them from the seeds. The purpose of extracting the juice with the chinois or the fruit press is to not crush the seeds. When the seeds are crushed a strong sour taste is added. We prefer a pure juice.
