20 Mile Cowboys Ride for 10 Hours Straight! ( Real Montana Cattle Drive )

- 20 Mile Cowboys never ride 20 miles in a straight line on a real cattle drive. Riding their horses back and forth along the strung out cattle makes their ride much longer than the cattle actually move.
Montana ranching practices revolve around the snow. In the spring they "follow the snow" up the mountain by first moving their cows and calves to the foothills, and then up into the steep and rocky mountains territory.
Now, in October, then have to gather all of those cows and move them back down to the prairies to get ready for winter snows.
On this real Montana cattle drive, the rancher and cowboys gather a large herd of cattle out of the mountains and drive them over 9 miles to the low country. That means that the cowboys are in the saddle for around 20-30 miles.

Pretty cool having a way to push the cattle under the road like that👍🤠. Trinity, I just want to stop and say thanks for the videos you provide. And not to mention all the hard work you have to do just to make sure a lot of people and animals get feed👏. I still believe there needs to be a rancher appreciation day if you ask me🤠.
It may sound crazy. I'm an Italian boy dreaming this life just riding on a saddle in the middle of nowhere, and everything else a real cowboy does. Hope someday, or in another life, I'll do this, something that makes me so happy

I am 65. Had back surgery a year ago last September. I hope you turn out as good as I did. I was so determined to get back on a horse again. Best thing I did.
I love to watch Trinity rein his horse with naturally gentle care for his horse. He once said he doesn't have 100% trust in this horse,his personal horse died, but he shows this animal respect. I find most animals give respect where they receive it...

Nice muster! I had a mare who was an excellent cutting horse, but she would not have liked that tunnel. She would have trusted me to get her through it, but it would not have been to her liking. Sure was a beautiful day for it! Thanks for taking us along! I can't ride anymore so this did my heart good😁

I have read so many books set in Montana and although our mindsets are chalk and cheese, I respect the difficulties you encounter and incredible landscape.Also, the creak of leather makes me think of my late father, a horse whisperer, expert saddler and workaholic who, despite having polio,and being vegetarian, worked animals most of his 99 years, teaching me to love and respect each life.I think he would enjoy these videos, having done this work for so long. Are you saying your dad worked beef cattle and was a vegetarian? For dietary reasons? Just curious! I'm a vegetarian but still find Trinity's podcasts real interesting as a native of the West and as an animal person.

this is amazing, I leave in France, and my grandfather was a farmer, I used to drive a tractor and help him during the harvest, I try to be a farmer but it was too much work for me. I watch a lot of western movies this is freaking good to see a real cowboy. Thank you very much

At one time - around 50 years ago- i had a great uncle that had a cattle ranch in Oklahoma panhandle area- it was near the Mount Sumpter Nat'l Park- what i remember most was the oil well pump in his front yard and it was about a mile to the front of the lodge- there was a bunkhouse for the cowboys and a cookhouse/dinning room for everyone- also the kids playhouse

I enjoy watching you herd cattle. I worked on a breed ranch at Castle Rock Colorado. The last time I was through there they had ran an interstate that cut most of the ranch off from the foot hills. I had a Belgium Sheep dog at the time. He was one smart dog that loved bearding cattle. It made my job very easy. The boss like giving me the heavy brush. But Buck didn’t mind it at all. One spring a bear came down and killed two calves. She enlisted me to track and kill the bear. She wanted the head and I got the skin. With a horse and a good pack mule I set out at the last calve he had killed. A month later I returned to the ranch with the head and skin. I gave the boss the last steak I had taken from the bear. That was a high light of my ranching days over forty years ago now. Later. That will be an good horse for you in another year or two.
i do this for my work and i honestly still find it the most cool and interesting thing even tho i experience it myself 🤣🤣

We call the railroad and they hold the trains for a few minutes. We try to go across as fast as possible.

My Grandpa had 2dogs for helping with this .but his Farm was a lot smaller basically a series of very large fenced areas intermixed with planted areas the breading of different types of cows sure does produce some Delicious meat..

While watching your videos, Trinity, it strikes me you do an incredibly difficult job of moving yours or your neighbors cattle during the seasons to break even. I wonder, why do you continue to do that?
But, thanks for your videos, you do an excellent job of showing ‘real life’ ranching, you and my other rancher I keep track of in Wyoming up by Devils Tower area, “My Wyoming Life”. You probably know of him as well. Like both of you!
We need more videos! I live in Utah. So my Question is do you take the cattle in the mountains that's Public land or is it Private land. Here in Utah I belive they run the cattle up on Public lands. I would LOVE for you to do a while video on this topic.
You should try filming with one of those follow along drones.
I have a drone that will follow me. The problem is battery life among other things. To put together a video like this, I film 3-4 hours of video, while I am still attempting to get work done. That's tricky. If I had to set up the drone every 20 minutes I wouldn't really be helping.

1 good dog is worth two men on horses. With a little sunscreen! My daughter has a ranch in Wy and moves there cattle 50 miles from summer land to winter land! It's about 5-6 days in the saddle.
I have a question, I ride a good bit but only about 2-3 miles every ride(typically 3-4 rides a week) and I have a hard time keeping weight on my horse, how to you keep weight on your horses?

I think the elk just eat down the range, destroy fences, and there’s just so many of them.
Bottle calf prices here in Iowa are through the roof. I'm hoping the ranchers are getting that money. But I doubt it.

On horseback, especially pushing cattle? They're a good platform (the AR), and I haven't(can't) been on a horse in 25+ yrs, but it would be waayyy down on the list of what I'd grab out of my safe due to bulkiness(the grip and...) and being a semi-auto.
