So tremendously under-rated is Chris Daughtry. Powerful and clean vocals, lots of energy, and just an amazingly talented guy. Lzzy Hale, as always is just killing it just like she does in everything she plays/sings. This was an outstanding cover of an absolute iconic rock classic.
@@JohnSmith-gq9gn I agree. Outstanding cover, but Steve Perry’s voice on this is iconic and still give me chills after all the years. But is is most probably one of the best/if not the best cover I’ve heard.
Roger that. On the Masked Singer I knew it was him immediately under the Rottweiler mask. Stopped watching when he came in second. Chris said it was fun doing that show and that it had pushed his vocal range.
I know everyone thinks of "Don't Stop Believin'" when it comes to Journey, but Separate Ways has always been my favorite Journey tune. This is an incredible cover and Chris and Lizzy made it their own. Fantastic!
This song hits home 💔 no one will understand the pain is losing your family one after the other unless you go through it😭 we've lost 3 every year since I was 5... The pain never heals especially when there's been soooo much CHAOS in your family, drugs, Alcohol and , Abuse! Lizzy is a great singer, and I mean that and I really don't want my comment to make it seem like she's not but man Daughtry seriously has one of those once in a generation type voices. The amount of power and presence he has as soon as he start is just incredible.
Chris looks like an action figure, then he sings, and you're suddenly transfixed by his superpower, his vocals. You then realise he no action figure, he a hero with a beautiful gift. Through the power of your songs, you will live forever and never be forgotten. Here one fan greatful that you keep on sharing your gift. Thank you ❤🇬🇧
THIS is one of my all time favorite songs as a former teen of the 80's and I have just found my new FAVORITE version! Holy cow these vocals ROCK! Goodbumps! Huge fan of both of you and this duet is iconic!
WOW his voice is beautiful. Sleek, steady, crystal clear, magic. Like silver turned to water. Lzzy Hale has a POWERFUL voice too, wowow, gotta go listen to more of her band, too.
Recently saw Daughtry at Newcastle, England. Waited over 12 years to see them there... Chris' voice was absolutely faultless, 3 rows from the front and just phenomenal live. Best show I've seen and can't wait to see them again. This song was literally made for these two to sing! Perfect ❤
No disrespect, but it obviously wasn't literally made for them to sing. Daughtry was very young when the song was released and Lzzy wasn't even born yet, so it may have figuratively been made for them to sing, but certainly not literally. Great cover, but Steve Perry and Journey will always be the best version.
This is phenomenal. Every time Lzzy does a duet, I expect her to eclipse the other artist. Chris actually manages to match her talent. Major props to whoever wrote this arrangement to play so well to both artist's individual strengths - Lzzy's emotion and power, Chris's control - and to blend them together so well.
let me know if I'm missing any cause I've been loving every duet with Lzzy I've heard "Close My Eyes Forever" with David Draiman, "Break In" with Amy Lee, this and I know its not a true duet (cause of there being three people) but i cant ignore it sitting there in my recommended "We Will Rock You" with Maria Brink and Taylor Momsen
In my opinion the greatest singer to come out of American Idol. Another completely amazing song please never stop sharing your awesome talent with the world.

It's like two vocalists going at it with everything they got to raise the bar that much higher from the original absolutely amazing they truly nailed it
And to think if not for a reality singing competition, chances are we wouldn’t have Daughtry. He might have made it without American Idol, cause his voice is so good. But hadn’t he been trying & getting nowhere? Same goes for Carrie U, Jennifer H, & others. For me-it’s those three that I can’t imagine not having their music.
Covering a Journey song is always hard because Steve Perry's vocals were epic. I love Lizzy and she has pipes but I was blown away by Chris Daughtry's voice. Amazing cover by both.
I find covers to be way more interesting when the original is already iconic because it forces the artists doing the cover to really give it all they got
I agree, some songs can be covered and sometimes even improved, Journey and Perry however, its a losing proposition, you are NEVER going to outsing Perry, best to leave epic songs alone.
I cannot listen to this song, full volume, more then 4-6X when it comes on my playlist > Car/ workout/ walk dogs/ house chores, etc. Only redone song I know of that's similar caliber to "Simple Man" by Shinedown. Total love... Absolutely Redonkulous! 🤩
This hard rock duet by Daughtry and Lzzy Hale is awesome! The older songs by Daughtry I really enjoyed listening to, back in high school and during my tech schooling days.
Wooooooooooooow... ¡Hombre! Wow... ¡Me paralizó el corazón! ¡Grande Chris, grande! ¡Un verdadero tributo a Journey!
I agree. This is a hard song to cover. Journey is a hard band to cover. Steve Perry's voice is unparalleled. They do it justice. I got chills. Great metal version.
He wasn’t allowed to…At the time if he had have won…American Idol would have been condoning taking his family apart from each other for their benefit…He had recording labels wanting him before his elimination
He definitely has more “staying power” than almost every other winner. It’s him, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood. I have no idea where the rest of the winners and finalists even are. 😂😂
As an unspoken rule, one should not touch Steve Perry / Journey as a cover but damn, this is when rules have to be broken. Incredible job to both .. congratulations
This was perfect. Phenomenal vocals. No one tried to be Steve, but put their own twist on it. No attempt to remake the original music video. Just an absolutely beautiful remastering of a classic. Thank you for bringing this to us.
I usually nitpick covers of this song. They never get close. This cover gave me goosebumps. You modernized this perfect song and completely did it justice. EPIC!
This... replay. More, more, more!!! So amazing to have two freaking stellar vocalists performing such a phenomenal duet. This has been downloaded and is on repeat and a much better version than the original!!! Daughtry, Lzzy.... MORE!!!!
I'm absolutely blown away by how insanely good this cover is. Chris Daughtrys voice is beautiful and I love Lizzy hale in this. Plus with making it more hard rock then the original is freaking awesome!!!!
70’s kid here. I usually skip over remakes but something drew me to this video before ever hearing it. Dddddaaaaaaayyyyyymmmmnnnnn. I’m glad I listened. Journey is at the top of my playlists and now this is gonna join it. Excellent job everyone. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I honestly can’t get enough of this song!!! I’m a huge Journey fan. Even bigger Daughtry fan. And now. Lizzy!!! You 2 made magic with this song!! Makes me wanting to hear more from you 2!!!
PERFECT rock, old school screaming from the depths of the soul with the passion of true rockers!!! I have watched this video at least 200 times, I literally can't hear it enough.
just wow, amazing combination Daughtry and Lzzy Hale. Perfect choice of song as well. I loved this song since it's release by Journey (I'm old) and this cover was flawlessly executed.
I'm not usually into remakes but hot damn you two did an amazing job. Great job Chris and Lzzy. You two should do more together as you sounded so good together. This is why rock stays alive...can't stop listening...
Chris Daughtry is magic so gifted with incredible voice and his music is amazing ! We need to hear him ! We all love Chris Daughtry and want to hear his music now ! 👑.❤💚
Holy moly.... I'm speechless. This song went hard even before the two of them started singing! Ohmygod, "awesome" does not even BEGIN to describe how jaw-droppingly amazing cover is!! And I don't think anyone else except Lzzy could've done this cover with Daughtry! Wow! I'm blown away!!!
Separate Ways is my favorite song of all time - Chris Daughtry is my favorite voice of all time. Lzzy's voice is the absolute perfect complement to Chris's voice - WOW WOW WOW!!! I love this so much! Well done!
You put Daughtry & Lizzy together and you get this amazing cover masterpiece... For what this song was for alot of people growing up hearing over the years to turn around and change up the tune a little bit, nailed it!! I'm really not a big fan of cover songs most people just ruin the originals but they did an amazing job remaking this classic.
I freaking love this. I'm usually not one for liking covers better than the original, here I have to make an exception. Chris Daughtry and Lzzy Hale, I don't know how this happened, but I'm so glad it did! Rock on!
You should give the day I tried to live, by Sevendust a shot. I am a diehard Soundgarden fan for life, and Sevendust made The Day I Tried To Live a masterpiece! This cover though is my new #1 favourite!

Chris Daughtry's voice is timeless. They killed this song.
Yes! I knew he was the Rottweiler immediately! Such a distinct voice!

I prefer the original for purely nostalgic reasons, but from an objective view, I have to admit this is better executed.
Um, okay. Bet you’re better, huh? They actually nailed it for it being a cover track.

How we touched and went our separate ways

Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched
And went our separate ways
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
Though we touched
And went our separate ways
Troubled times
Caught between
Confusion and pain, pain, pain
Distant eyes
Promises we make
Were in vain, in vain
If you must go, I wish you love
You'll never walk alone
Take care, my love
Miss you, love
Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched
And went our separate ways
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
Though we touched
And went our separate ways
Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
I still love you, girl
I really love you, girl
And if he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
We NEED more of this collaboration… some serious talented artists brought to a whole new level when they get together!!
Lizzy always looks at him with admiration for the voice he has
One of the best male vocalist in the last 30 years. Why he isn't more famous is beyond me.
Cause he can't really sing
@@DissociaDIDNT Maybe you need to get your ears cleaned
@@DissociaDIDNTyou must be deaf, or totally jealous
Agreed
He doesn’t write good rock songs. He generally just does power ballads
OMG!! This duet could not have been any better. They are both exceptional.
It's like two vocalists going at it with everything they got to raise the bar that much higher from the original absolutely amazing they truly nailed it
Absolutely Incredible...I am mesmorized by their voices...
This man's voice is undescribably spectacular, daughtrys voice seems to calm me and excite me at the same time....how is that possible??
✨ "Magic" ✨
😂😂😂😂😂
how about the the lame inaudible female voice???? omg
@@wintertrooper7918 that's a great point, they forsure knock it out of the park
I agree, some songs can be covered and sometimes even improved, Journey and Perry however, its a losing proposition, you are NEVER going to outsing Perry, best to leave epic songs alone.
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “Universe” by SLT 🤘🎶🎧
I’m so hyped I have loved both bands for so long. Can’t wait Daughtry is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤
I cannot listen to this song, full volume, more then 4-6X when it comes on my playlist > Car/ workout/ walk dogs/ house chores, etc.
As a Journey fan I have to say that was DAMN good.
This is the only way this song should be performed from now on. Change my mind. ;)
I agree. This was amazing!!!!
Journey always my favorite rock band. And this was the most amazing 🤩❤
@@jilldesruisseau If you haven't alreay, listen to Tommy Johansson's version, IMO it's even better than this.
Classic song reimagined so well
Well. Done. Great homage to the original. Both voices do Perry justice. And, clearly, this song was always meant to be a duet.
This cover is insane. These two go so good together. They need to colab more, hell just make one band
No band….just play and sing out of heart….as this was! That’s the melody! ❤
Them together would be a great band
I agree. This is a hard song to cover. Journey is a hard band to cover. Steve Perry's voice is unparalleled. They do it justice. I got chills. Great metal version.
4:50 😊😊p😅 5:00
Her and Brent Smith go good together also
Chris Daughtry is the single greatest thing to ever come out of American Idol by a long shot. Shame he didn't win.
8 Million bucks, I'd say he won.....
But he did win big grabbing America's heart's and around the world 🌎 Much respect for him and Lzzy ❤
Winning the show does NOT equal talent or greatness historically. The winners are hardly a list of super successes. Daughtry is one such example.
This is the only cover that can match the power of the original.
Both of y’all voices are 🔥! ❤️
ABSOLUTE magic these 2 voices together. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. AWESOME
I usually nitpick covers of this song. They never get close. This cover gave me goosebumps. You modernized this perfect song and completely did it justice. EPIC!
Check out the Eva Under Fire version. Its light-years better than this one
This...
Plus with making it more hard rock then the original is freaking awesome!!!!
what a lift in spirit both of you have that sound that gives drive, loved every second of this
Omg I am in love with this version. I've been a journey fan. So ty Chris and Izzy. Hope to finally see u in concert. I'm disabled but I'm alive
My God is this amazing, I really hope that these two continue working together.
just wow, amazing combination Daughtry and Lzzy Hale.
I wonder if Lzzy picked up Chris on a rainy night because they just gave birth to a beautiful version of this classic!
I think Lzzy covered that song already - "all I wanna do..."
She did and that is one of my favorites.
Well done!
More of these two please 🎵
I love Lzzy's voice. She's so talented.
Rock on!
Looks like they had a great time doing this!
You should give the day I tried to live, by Sevendust a shot. I am a diehard Soundgarden fan for life, and Sevendust made The Day I Tried To Live a masterpiece! This cover though is my new #1 favourite!
Same, not big on remakes. But this is 🔥
I love lizzy hales vocals can sbe silky smooth and then rough and harsh as sandpaper in the best way possible
