  • There's a lot of talk about the best temperature for Wild Discus. We follow our experience and what we have learnt from "Mother Nature" where they have appeared in the Amazon and from where we have taken some. We keep them in the same conditions and try to recreate the stability of the water, which is the most important thing for these fish. Wild Discus need stability in their water. Of course, the temperature drops by about 2 degrees at night and rises again when the sun comes out. Last season, in the face of an atypical situation, we observed what can cause an increase in temperature in nature and also in some places in pH. Today's topic is temperature and we're going to talk a bit about what happens at Santaremdiscusplus.com . It's our experience

    I have never heard this in 30 years of keeping and breeding discus fish, i always wondered what temperature the water was in the wild and totally makes sense given that many other amazonian fish dont need 30d , a real eye opener thankyou for sharing, greetings from Ireland and do you ship to my country.

    Really interesting but horrible to see wild Discus in the Amazon in 2023 struggling with a higher bacterial load and more parasite infection due to unusually high water temperature and higher pH. Does not look good for the future unless we sort out the climate! Thank you for showing us. Respect from London, UK.

      Thank you for your message. In reality, the number of fish killed for human consumption was high last season. Ornamental fish may also have been killed, although I didn't observe it. What I did see was some fish with serious bacterial problems due to the temperature of the water and some wild discus with a lot of parasites. That's why we thought it best to give our fish a longer quarantine than usual before selling them. It's important for people to realise that certain statements such as high temperature is beneficial for fish to release parasites, something that we have scientifically proven not to be the case through Hector Gutierrez and his microscope. April the 13th and 14th will be this topic and others about these months in the driest Amazon ever. Thanks again for your comments

    In the video you talk about wild discus fish. What about discus fish, which have been bred in aquariums for decades? Is the temperature for them 25-26 ok?

    • @santaremdiscuslda

      Hi , yes i speak about Wild Discus about the Domestic ( Hybrid ) it's not by increasing the temperature that they will release parasites or extinct them . The organs, the nature of the Hybrids comes from all the DNA of the Wilds. You'll have more bacteriological problems with a higher temperature. Now the ideal is to know who Breeders Hybrid Discus at what temperature. In the case of our F1s, we do it between 26º and 28º maximum.. Thanks

      @@santaremdiscuslda I heard that most parasites die at a temperature of 35 degrees and some people use this method for treatment. What do you think about this? Thanks
