    DESCRIPTION
Meraki cameras have the potential to change the world, because they are MORE than just a camera. They are a full blown smart IoT device that can do facial recognition, car recognition, machine learning and predictive analytics. Cisco Meraki really knocks it out of the park with this product, so stick around till the end to hear how this device can even save lives.

My present need is a wireless camera for a business system. Present vendor (Speco) doesn't have one. We are using Ultra High Def cameras but getting cabling 1000' out is a problem due to electrical interference. I need a stand alone camera that can connect to a "local on prem" wifi AP that is nearby but nobody sells a camera that will do that for business. I will look into Meraki for help. The search continues. I suspect this is a hard wired camera, using poe. I do have a electrical outlet that I can power my "wifi" camera on only if somebody were to actually make that camera.

In the industry we just use an point to point bridge and send it back to the main building. This is a very common solution used in parking lots and to connect remote buildings. For $100 we can get an inexpensive radio and add it to any camera that we need. PTZ, Multihead, or even multiple cameras. This allows us the flexibility to use an appropriate camera for the environment. Hope this helps.

Being in the security industry, I have seen this type of analytics available in camera and on VMS systems for many years now. I have sold and supported this tech for the last 9 years. It's nice to see Cisco getting involved. They can only help the technology behind analytics improve and become more mainstream, thus further pushing down prices and making it affordable for everyday use in small business.
Two IMPORTANT notable points with regards to analytics.
    1. With any form of analytics, installation and prep is critical to the success of gathering good data. Too many times an improperly mounted camera has resulted in a frustrated customer. This is not the movies or magic here, so do your homework up front.
    2. Set expectations early. Analytics is not 100% accurate on ANY camera. Period. Make sure you and your customers know this up front. Failure rates can exceed 10% even in the most perfect conditions. That being said, this tech is improving everyday and is pretty awesome.

It's the integration with the Meraki network management that gives it more value beyond the point solutions every security jockey touts.

These look good for surveillance, would they be good for a conference cam? Would they be viewable like regular IP cams?

It's so insane that it's a 3* max rating. On IPVM. All VMS systems do almost the same thing. Work with Avigilon, Hanwha and others.. The night vision is garbage and only 98 feet of visibility. Mostly 4mp cameras. Where are the 4k Cameras. Cisco is a PROPRIETARY camera and must RTSP on most other VMS systems. Line Drawing notifications are normal without paying for advanced cameras. I just don't see how you feel so strongly. Super crazy bro.

eh...first you have to pay a ton of money to purchase the device...then you have to pay an over-priced subscription? With Meraki, you get the same features as many other systems, but way more expensive...
