I live never the river , it was a little distance from the. House.Its same river that run to the gorge. I finish my house work.Leave my husband in the bed room and went for a bath in the river .the rain did fall afew days before so the river bed was clear and i could see where i always go have our bath.
I went in the water it was noonday.soap my rag and enjoying my bath , ready to wash off the sud, i felt like a rope around my two feetl.tying them together .when i recognize what is happening to me .I shout in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth let go my feet there and then it let go my feet and i hurry wash off the sud and come out of the water.out of the water heading back that mermaid spirit put on a heat on me.i say the blood of Jesus until i reached the house and telled my husband about it and he said its my mind.i told him he can talk because if i did not make it back him would talk something else when i am gone.i never when to that river again for a bath.but i sit to watch other from the community swim in it. I am new blood to the community i am not from st Catherine. So i experienced the river spirit.
In a another incident a boy come from linstead for family reunion at my ex husband family reunion and i was there too , the boy is a stranger to that same community and he love the water and leaves with friends to swim and never come back.they search that day and the next day is body was round .it was a sad day for us all.

I kinda believe they are real because in Westmoreland a place name Blue hole that ppl catch water growing up I've always heard that mermaids live round there and we should not go there 12 in the day.Also the mermaids drown a man round there one time and another that went round there to catch water one time and the mermaids pull him off in the water and was drowning him and it was a person that came there and see and they let him go and go back down in the hole.
