  • After 2 months of harsh Scottish wind, rain, frost, rain, snow, even more rain, it's time to let the car breath and check on its wellbeing. Fingers crossed.

    Fired up my MX-5 on Feb 6. It’s garaged but want to get some oil moving and tires rolling a bit.

      Yup, exactly my plan too. Quick drive around the estate and she was happy again. Plus turned the car around, just to confuse Mrs Mid Life Motors 😎

    I've got one just like yours. Love it! Wondering about a cover for mine. What brand/model do you have? Thanks from Texas.

      That's an Ultimate Outdoor Car Cover from a company called Classic Additions. Size S2 fits the Mazda perfectly 👍

    Hey , just discovered your channel. I have a Mx5 RF 2018 model. I Love it. Unfortunately the rear spring just snapped. Cant get the part anywhere. dont suppose you would know where i could source one? anyway, i'll just watch you driving your MX5 as mine sits in a driveway ! 😢

    I just fired the Celica up for the first time since October and it went first flick of the key which was nice. I had put some nice super-unleaded in with some octane booster to keep it right over the winter so it seems like that did the trick. Only thing I found was a little bit of mould on the passenger seat but nothing a quick wipe down didn't sort out. Mesh seats = petri dish, so not entirely unexpected.

      Toyotas, they always start. Good shout on the octane booster. Might do that next time myself. Still keep looking at Celicas tbh. Be good to see yours out and about again 👍

    Damn, getting me eager to take mine out for a drive. Maybe if we get lucky with the weather here in Sweden it could be possible in a month or so. As soon as they sweep up most of the gravel from the roads...

      @@midlifemotors5050 The winters are getting milder here, not much lower than -10 degrees nowadays (but much colder in the north of course). The darkness the worst though...

    Impressive how it’s stayed in mint condition. Last time I used a cover I had all kinds of mould inside after it was on for 3 weeks. Decided not to use it after that. Might need to reconsider 🤔

      Done its job well over the years this cover. Did cost £a fair few bucks but think i've had my moneys worth. Just make sure you get a multi-layered, fully breathable one and prep the car well before putting it on. My OCD quite likes all that though tbh 🤣

      @@midlifemotors5050 yeah you definitely take every precaution and that I think is admirable! I don’t but should…. I think the issue I had was I bought a monsoon style one so it literally trapped any and all air from getting out or in.

    Just curious, do you leave the cars battery leads connected while you charge? Never was sure if that has any adverse impact on car electronics…

    • @midlifemotors5050
      @midlifemotors5050  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, leave the battery leads connected. Connect the red lead from the charger first, to the batterys positive terminal, then connect the black lead from the charger to an earth point (not the negative terminal) on the bodywork. Most cars have an earth point attached to the suspension turret next to the battery. On the Mazda I connect to the bolt holding the battery tray in place. Then switch on 👍

    Hey Neil. Is your car 6yrs old?
    Now a days you can't get Recaro seats at all. What your thoughts on them vs what mazda are offering in the RHD Homura in Uk. It's really annoying.

    • @midlifemotors5050
      @midlifemotors5050  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yup, 6 years old in a couple of months - where does the time go??!!
      The stock seats are ok but once you've tried the Recaros youll feel a bit short changed. They were a must-have for me. If the Homura had them i'd be tempted tbh. Love the rest of the spec of that model. The 30th AE has the Recaros and a great spec, but no desire for an orange car me.
      You're 100% correct, it is really annoying.

      Hi Neil. Really appreciate the reply. Thanks
      I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the brenbo package version with no Recaro cause there is no other option. Lol
      Mazda provide option to lower the suspension themselves... in terms of measurements no idea, doesnt say and also provide a stock sports exhaust for nearly 1000quid? There isn't much on the net about either. Do you know anyone or have any experience or opinion on these 2 options provided by mazda? You have lowered the suspension in your car, any thoughts on how low you can go safely without affecting the dynamics of the car?

    • @midlifemotors5050
      @midlifemotors5050  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RigGeo The Brembo pack version will be mega. Those brakes work really well + the later engine and smoother gearchange, i'm jealous!!
      I've lowered the car 25mm with the Eibach springs ( the same as Mazda use) and i wouldn't want to go any lower without going down the coilover route. My local garage did it for ££much cheaper than Mazda (I supplied the springs, from MX5 Parts) + they put the Flyin Miata geometry setup on it . Although the stock geo is pretty good to be honest. The springs make a huge difference. How the car should be from factory IMO.
      With the ND2 not sure you're going to get much benefit with a sports exhaust. Maybe a bit more noise but it's the manifold that's restrictive on the MK4 and doubt that'll be included. I've a sports cat which really needs the manifold doing now + a remap to get the best out of it.
      What colour are you going for?

      Hi ya Neil, hope you are keeping well boss
      Thanks for that comprehensive reply. I've managed to find out that the front stock springs are 156ppsi, 80ppsi for back ones?. (I assume they use same units in U.k as in USA). I asked the dealership to go fookin find out. Lol
      What does your modications do? Were you interested in getting the "Progress" springs??
      I was thinking of dark blue crystal or whatever they call it initially for body colour.....because I did not want to stand out...
      But having seen and drivin the soul red....its the way to go! It's so unique. Lol
      Other people will look at it as a woman's car/hair dresser car etc
      Alot of people do care about the rep and "street cred" which will always be the major failing of the car.
      Any thoughts or "statments" to declare. Lol
      Cheers
