    As a Norwegian and an electric vehicle (EV) owner, I wanted to share some thoughts for folks in São Paulo who are thinking about getting an EV. While it's awesome that Chinese companies like BYD and GWM are investing heavily in Brazil, there are some practical things to consider before taking the leap and buying a EV. Especially around charging infrastructure.
    Key Challenges:
    Not Enough Public Charging Stations: São Paulo currently has about 445 public charging stations, which is pretty low for such a big city. In Norway, we have over 23,800 public charging stations for just over 5 million people. This means we rarely have to worry about finding a place to charge our cars. In São Paulo, the limited number of stations could mean more waiting.
    Home Charging: In Norway, a lot of us charge our EVs at home, which makes things super convenient. This isn't always possible for everyone in São Paulo, either because of the cost of installing a home charger or because they live in apartments without dedicated parking spots. Without home charging, you’ll rely a lot more on the public network, which, as mentioned, isn’t very extensive yet.
    Importance of Charging Infrastructure:
    In Norway, the success of EVs is largely due to our well-developed charging infrastructure. We've invested heavily in both public and private charging options. Fast chargers are common along highways and in cities, making long trips feasible and everyday charging easy.
    Charging Times for BYD and GWM EVs:
    Both BYD and GWM vehicles generally take about 30-35 minutes to charge from 0% to 80% at a 150 kW fast charger, and around 50-55 minutes to reach a full charge. This is pretty standard, but it underscores why having enough fast chargers is important.
    Conclusion:
    While it’s exciting to see more EV options in Brazil, potential buyers in São Paulo need to think about charging infrastructure. Until there are more public charging stations, owning an EV without home charging could be tricky. Norway’s experience shows that good infrastructure is essential for making EV ownership practical and enjoyable. São Paulo has a long way to go before EVs become a major part of the cityscape, mainly due to the need for a significant expansion of its charging infrastructure.

      Good point but you are talking about their business partner China, not the over abusive government as well as unions that always stall the building of infrastructure because they want more over time and bigger paycheck. It will take a few years but it is still way faster than what the US can do ever if US has over 5 years head start. The US is no longer the biggest market as too much tariff on foreign goods.

    • @icefishing6592
      @icefishing6592 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good points. Very true. On the other side, if a fully charged car can run 2000km without charging again, people will want it.

    • @Garvar72
      @Garvar72 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @icefishing6592, it's likely we'll see cars with a 2000 km range by 2030, especially with solid-state batteries promising up to 2100 km per charge. However, if BYD starts mass production in 2025, the rapid increase in EVs might outpace the current charging infrastructure. Significant investments in charging points and power grid upgrades will be necessary to meet demand. Also, cars produced now are based on today's technology, so they won't benefit immediately from future advancements. If new EV owners experience charging issues, it could lead to negative perceptions and discourage people from buying electric vehicles.@@icefishing6592

    Actually, China does not concern of the loss in job or transfer technology too much. First, China and East Asia has a large population to support its industrial demand. Secondly, you cannot imagine the competition in China and how hard working they are. There are over 100 EV brands in China.
    During COVID since everywhere is lacking of face mask, BYD's boss and 3000 engineers worked days and night. After a few days, they created a fastest mask-making machine.

      Brazilian and Brazilian government needs to Wake up and observe. Unless Brazilian companies starts making on their own. It’s going to be disastrous for Brazilian businesses
      In India even Tesla is not allowed to manufacture unless they follow Indian requirements. Tesla wanted to shift their manufacturing operations in India from China
      Unless they follow Indian government guidelines and rules and regulations they’re not welcome.
      what’s happening in India
      Just google it about Indian Automobiles and automobiles makers in India
      Millions of Cars jeeps scooters motorcycles made in India sold in many countries and millions of people are buying them in India as well
      Chinese are not allowed to enter and create nuisance in India
      You guys are busy sunbathing ?????
      I am sorry to say this but it’s true that Chinese are exploiting the laid back, take it easy culture
      I have been to Brazil multiple times in last ten years and I have seen many cities of Brazil
      Rio , São Paulo ,Fortaleza Maceio, Salvador Bahia Recife Victoria Belem São Luis Aracaju Manaus
      I noticed in all these cities widespread ignorance among Brazilians I was amazed how dangerous it is for the country.
      Local manufacturing is essential
      Look at USA look at their bad economic conditions and see how fast that country is going down
      Just see their trillions of dollars debt
      It’s in bad shape.Those who knows the basics of economics they understand how dangerous is USA conditions.
      It’s a matter of time

    At a first moment, EVs will face a hard time in the Brazilian market due to the poor infrastructure related to charging spots, specifically outside the most developed towns, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. For sure that'll be exploited by traditional carmakers long established in the country and their supporters by means of powerful lobbies backed thru steadfastly propaganda in the country's mainstream media, seeking to smear those Chinese cars.

      Actually 50% of the Chinese EV export goes to Europe. EU haven't decide if they are going to follow US to put tariff on Chinese EVs yet. And most of major auto company in Europe like Mercedes, VW came out and objected tariff on Chinese EVs. Not like the US companies, at the Europe companies do not afraid to compete and not agree on protectionism. However, too bad it is not decided by those companies but by politicians. So most likely they are going to follow the US.

      they are reliable and ask people who already have BYD cars.I bought a BYD car because many of my friends had previously bought BYD gasoline cars. At that time, they spent 11500 USD. Their gasoline cars have been running for more than ten years and still haven't broken down. Now my friends have switched to electric cars, and BYD offers a ten-year warranty. BYD cars are very affordable, costing just over 12,000 USD.
