It weighs 2630 kg almost 450 kg more than previous s63 model,why should 1 e motor plus inverter and battery pack weigh 400 kg,lucid air e motor has 670 hp 820 nm that weighs only 31 kg with inverter and transmission it weighs only 72 kg,if mercedes wanted they easily could do the same thing with 100 kg weight gain with more energy dense battery and more efficient electric drive unite .

A lot of really cool technology in this car no question. An engineering and manufacturing masterpiece. That will cost a kings ransom to fix when it starts to fail out of warranty period. Probably not for the first owner as few people hold onto cars for very long nowadays, beyond warranty.
I see a fair number of formerly high end Mercedes Benz at Costco and other places and it is quite obvious the the owners may not know how much it will cost to maintain the vehicles when problems arise. I purchased a then new E55 but kept it way too long. Had the idea that "Mercedes lasts forever" but did not realize that once out of warranty it became a major mechanical POS. IT was always in the shop and the Mercedes dealer here in Las Vegas was rather incompetent about how to repair an AMG.

Idk, it does look amazing but besides the leather seats and the steering wheel it does look a bit plastic-y and cheap inside with the screens. And $236k plus a weight of 2.5t is a joke

I think this spec is spot on! We should see more of these pushed by the manufacturers! All the black on black is meh. I guess this is also more tailored to the American clientele, who actually prefer lighter interior. Also, the boot is way too small. No roadtrips.
It's absolutely stunning, but I still dislike the center console compared to the older Mercs. I'm spoiled when it comes down to performance so in that aspect my daily is a tad faster, but what I absolutely adore about both Mercedes AMG and BMW M -cars is that fantastic feeling of driving something as large as this that's performing like that. That is what gets me reeled in on cars like this (personal all time favorite 2017 BMW M760Li); driving a sort of luxuary mega ship that pulls like a super car. 😊
305 liters of trunk space and 2500 kg weight, this car isn't driving spectacularly. This plug-in hybrid generation of Mercedes performance cars is just wrong. The concept itself is shit.
I agree that the interior styling took a big downgrade. It just looks like any Hyundai now. Though that also means kudos to brands with smaller budgets that are able to make interiors similar to Mercs. It just feels like Merc didn't really try hard enough to set itself apart.
The lazy throttle and transmission response is typical in Comfort mode for non-hybrid Merc models too. Yes you can use Sport mode and it gives a throttle pedal that is actually responsive but the problem then is that the transmission uses the entire rev range of the engine before shifting gears..... There should be a drive mode between Comfort and Sport tbh.
@adampavella1225 yup that is true, I often do use that manual mode with the drive mode in Comfort. Ofcourse the delayed transmission response is still there, but compared to fully automatic, it's much better for highway overtakes.
This car has Sport+ unlike previous-gen S560s so it does actually have the mode between Comfort and Sport, it's just called Sport now and the old Sport is now Sport+

The older I get, and the nicer the car I buy ('91 Accord -> '05 S40 T5 -> '13 Sentra, -> '15 428i xDrive 2-door -> 18 A5 Sportback premium plus), the more I have to respect how hard my dad worked to drive us around in a C220, then an E320, two ML320, one black, one white, then when fighting stage 3 cancer he got a 2005 S500 4matic which had all the bells and whistles. At the time I was confused as to why he didn't go for the S600 that we took on a test drive and that he didn't like how harsh the S55 was (despite me wanting him to buy that the most). I have no idea how he did that, and no idea how he let my mom drive it more than him, even after he beat cancer. We still have that ol' w220 S500, and he got a plaque from Mercedes Benz recently for getting it past something like 280,000 miles, I thought they gave it to him as a sign that he can stop pouring money into it, but nope it's still going, it's still his daily and he babies it like it was his first car nonethless..... I want something newer, like this
I think the S class as a range has been unrivalled for decades but like most most ranges there is a variant that makes no sense and is either inferior financially or dynamically and this appears to be both.
