      Reminds me of WAY back when, when I got my first computer, a Dell pile of shit... Still have it... Anyways, I remember it could run The Sims 1, very roughly, and when 2 came out, it looked like balls and ran VERY slowly, but my friend had it on his (at the time) beastly computer, and ran it tn times better than mine. Later on, when Gmod was very popular on the internet scene, I tried getting a pirated version of it, and it actually worked, but it was laggy and unplayable... Oh... those were the days: have a a computer? Well, it can run ANYTHING! RIGHT!? Oh, how I've aged...

    I far preferred playing Jazz2 on the lower resolutions. That way it actually maintains a character-to-environment scale more comparable to the kind of console and arcade platformers Epic was trying to imitate. While you do lose a bit of situational awareness, I simply find it much more pleasing (and less stressful) to the eye.
    On higher settings, it all just looks really out of whack to me. All that lovely extra detail and animation is kind of wasted when everything is so needlessly small, preventing you from even appreciating it properly. It also hurts the environment design as the repetitive tiling of the background graphics becomes far more obvious.

      I agree. He sounded cute in a badass way in Jazz 1 and that's the voice he should always have. I hate his voice in Jazz 2 because it is shrill and annoying. "HEY! HEY COME ON! WHASSUP!" Jesus Christ Jazz SHUT UP and fix your damn vocal cords already!

    I forgot what it was called, I typed in "old game with rabbit turns into frog" and found it ! I loved this game as a kid. The characters, the music, and the frog level was my favorite. They should totally make a modern version of it. The possibilities are exciting. But you're right, they might not ever :( And it will just be a great 90s game that is remembered fondly.

    • @daptor1427
      @daptor1427 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or maybe some fans should. I'm not sure how popular Jazz was, but I would've expected at least one popular (indie) game heavily inspired by it. I don't think there's a game like that yet, although there are plenty of Metroidvania games.

      Yep. Games like this can easily be found through pirated means because the developer doesn't care about it anymore like one person said on here and because it's old and doesn't make them money anymore like the new games they make now. Same thing goes for most other 'dead' media out there including movies.

    IIRC Epic said they actually lost the source code for JJ2, so a re-release is probably... kinda... impossible :/

    • @LGR
      @LGR  10 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Why's that? Source code isn't needed for a release on things like GOG or Steam, games are released on there all the time that lack original source code. Now, to port it to another system like the Xbox One or PS4, sure, but not a simple re-release.

    • @ThatRatGuy
      @ThatRatGuy 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lazy Game Reviews
      Yeah, but they'd probably re-release it with all the original bugs and stuff. With source code they could release a full on HD version of it, with modern resolutions and aspect ratios or something.

    That resolution looks horrible. Everything is far too small and too zoomed out. Thankfully changing the resolution fixes it somewhat but it's not perfect. Especially as the example given of a lower resolution does indeed have the exact same problems as Jazz 1.

    LGR, I'm kinda wondering what you think about pirating this sort of game?
    Personally, I think it's fine since Epic is such a big company right now and buying it used wouldn't profit them in anyway, but I kind of wonder what your stance on it is.

    • @LGR
      @LGR  10 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      Well, as you might guess by my game collection, I am all about buying the original games, even if it doesn't support the creators directly. But while I don't condone piracy as a whole, I don't see it hurting anyone to download a piece of software that is longer even available for sale _anywhere_ legitimately.

    • @Barelycontainedrage
      @Barelycontainedrage 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Downloading what is essentially abondonware isn't piracy.

    • @onetruepurple
      @onetruepurple 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Epic quietly gave a warez website the green light to host it (until the website died), so you're probably safe to pirate it.

    • @ericrevollo
      @ericrevollo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Abandonware is technically illegal I think some 75 years must pass before going to public domain. But most companies don't care.

    • @urmo345
      @urmo345 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Eric Revollo it is illegal, but no one cares anymore. That's what makes it abandonware. :P Like US is having many unusual and outdated laws, still up but never followed and never being punished. Like one game designer was asked about his game put in net as abandonware. He said, that it is good his game is still remembered ;) Keeps old good stuff alive,,,
