So long ago...the knight with the blond hair who is marshalling in the background is Armand Sevigny, later King and still later Duke Armand Du Sevigny, I was home from the military on leave and fought in this battle, I am the tall one with the tan round shield, the man with the German eagle on his shield is Eric von Rhinehausen who conceived the idea of putting ropes around all fighting fields where combat was to keep others from being hurt by accident. The SCA honored him by naming those ropes The Eric and it is still called this in this 50+ year if the SCA while I was once a baron but the East list the records proving it, so, despite my being unable to come and defend myself due to major illness, they took my coroner away and once again I am but a bard and peasant of CAID the jealous.
That's Coronet...not Coroner. Make sure you keep copies of all important papers proving you are you in the SCA for it someone powerful craves your history they , if unscruptulous, will claim you weren't there and it was they who did it, even though they weren't even in that distant other country in the times they claim. and beware the ides of false friends who seek to cut you from history and paste themselves over you in photo albums they steal.
This is from early 1973-4, I was in that melee and a few years later joined the air force and founder a barony.in Germany at Sohren, Germany actually though we met half the time at then Hahn Air Base 6 miles away, the rest of the time we played in real castles like Baldenau Ruine which didn't have a moat then nor was UT as restored, our frequent events there brought the German Castle Preservation Society notice and they used films if us to help raise money in the beginning . our Barony though collapsed when Drachenwald reduced UT to the shore of the Weeping Downs after we had most too many members in 1981 to sustain a Barony anymore. Famous member Farquhar MacHardy ( John Lindquist) O.P. was our baronies jester and a very good fighter, but also one of much courtesy, so much in fact Drachenwald highest non armigerous award is caller the Lindquister Award of Courtesy, he was once a member of then Baron Andreant's household and that barony. You can find him in Facebook, as well as me to confirm all this. I was Andreant, but now just a Lord and Bard though i.played every role and office in the SCA and joined near the beginning of Year Two SCA after being recruited by Stefan de Lorraine, Count of the West at the Baycon tourney in 1966. Confirm that fighter in Red top, round shield is Duke Martin the Temperate. When I next see him I will ask who the other fighter was. Heraldry might be able to identify the other fighter in the first clip. Redwood Circle was a great place.
Not especially. They're made of rattan covered with duct tape, and will have a counterweight in the hilt or pommel. They are a little lighter than a real sword.
Early Society for Creative Anachronism. Historical re-enactment, not a LARP.
Awesome find.
Definitely SCA. I recognize several people. Thank you for posting this.
Wow you are old
Hey there, peahix. it's extremely outstanding video. thanks. :)
Opening fight is between Duke Martin the Temperate (Taller fighter with round shield) & Lysander of Sparta.
“It’s just a flesh wound!”😉 My friends and I were there. I bought a ceramic medallion on a leather string. Wonder where that thing went?

Oh to be young.
Those fighters are now in their 60's and 70's.
We've come a long way.
Wow, this looks like an older film from the 70s maybe? Looks like a great demo in a park! I don't recognize anyone, but I am in Calontir.

The one with the serpent on his shield?
I am pretty sure that is 'Lysander of Sparta.'
So fantastic for you to have found this and digitised it! 🖤
1:08 that guy got his block knocked off!
Damn but those weapons look heavy. :P
