I love this cart. Been looking for a tipping cart design for manure spreading on my place in Australia. I think this is the most straight forward design I have yet seen. Thanks.
When I filmed out of doors, I too found the 'wind noise to be terrible. I used an elastic band, or two, to secure a washing up sponge to the camera and to cover the microphone orifice. Needed to thin it out a bit, but the result was a good imitation of a dead cat Sound Muffler. I enjoyed watching your videos again Tim and Sandra.
The ones who create the mess always look better than the ones who have to clean up after them! Innovative cart, I like it much...wonder if I could train my dog Jasper to pull one: he looks better than me too!!!
I totally LOVE your cart, and Henry (-: Wish you were closer...just bought a little runabout cart for my mule, now to learn to use it. I wish I could rig a cart like yours (-:
You are so genuinely ingenious with engineering solutions to problems that I'm surprised you haven't invented something to take care of that wind noise. You could sell it to the big guys for millions! I'm serious! Give it a go!!
brightpurpleviking Yes, sorry about the wind noise. We've pretty much given up making films when the wind's blowing these days. Tried many things but no success so far!
+WayOutWest Blowinblog What you need is a cover for you're mic. They are commonly called a 'dead cat' Don't worry no cats are harmed in their production ;)
What a great cart! As for washing it, well, you have much more urgent things to do on a farm, don't you? It's only going to look exactly the same by next day anyway, so unless you have "nothing" else to do, why worry about it?
I wish I could! I'm in Tallahassee, Florida! I hope you will do more videos...I don't know anyone who works horses this way, and it's hard to learn from books, lol!!(-:
LOVE THIS VIDEO.....................even the knowing to mute or turn my speakers down way low. YOUR VIDEO PICTURES are really clear and colourful...........THANKS. I hope to get to come back to Ireland and not a long time from now ~~~~ I will e-mail write and see about how I may can meet you lovely people, the horses, and dogs and all ! Brilliant. Failte' Slainte'.....................Aren't those the correct Irish words for WELCOME AND TO YOUR HEALTH or THANK YOU? HOPE SO. Cheers !
Lovely contraption. I am in the process of buikding something similar for my mare, altough I have to say the seat and box idea beats mine hands down. Say, where did you get that two-cushion saddle (girth) ? I don't seem to be able to find one. I think theyre the best for the comfort of the horse and for maintenance.
Sorry Melissa, no actual plans. And no time at the moment to do up some. I just used some wheels I had, made up sides so that they would support shafts at the right height, and used the axle as the pivot for the tipping part. Perhaps the key is to keep holding it up to the horse as you make it, to be sure it fits. Good luck!
Im very new to the horse drawn equipment and living here in America, its not as common as some areas i suppose. I was wondering if you could give a closeup shot of the way your harness hooks up. I've just purchased one but havent hooked my horse up yet. Thanks Daniel
I like your cart, and may decide to copy the concept. Same muck here where I live, whatta joy ! I would very much like to know where you bought those harness from, particularly the steel-arched saddle: please advise. Thank you.
+WayOutWest Blowinblog Thank you very much. I am in the process of adding a collar (probably an Amish product bought via BlueHorseEquine UK) to my marathon set, but these Swede harness are among the best around.
If you can find wider tires, they might help in the mud. A seat or two, set above the tires, might not be amiss. Sort of jump seats or crew seats for when the go to town seat is not fitted. I just hope my ideas can help, since I'm too far away to lend hand otherwise. In Boston, but spent lots of time on farms as a youngster. I miss it still.
Jeffrey Plum Thanks Jeffrey - in fact there is already a seat I made that fits on top. We don't use it too much but it's perfect if we go for longer trips on the cart. Wider tyres is a good idea too!
+WayOutWest Blowinblog I lead a similar way of life in my tiny farm in Italy. Just finished training my halfbreed Noriker mare for agricultural work, I hope she's going to be a step up from my donkeys in terms of power !
+WayOutWest Blowinblog I do but I only posted one short very low-quality clip ages ago ! Too much to do (singlehanded) on the farm... I shall try and add some in the future.
I'm small farmer in Texas Our government so heavily subsidies the corporate large farm so much that a family farm can not make it. it's so bad that there is only four places in Texas that you can sell a pig. Since I have no income I can't even buy a tractor I'm going horse lol Very nice video I was going to go with the fojrd
I really wish there were a safe and reasonable way to do this sort of thing here. I'd get run over by a dump truck headed to the quarry or a vacationer in an RV towing a boat within 10 minutes. I guess there are Amish here who get around by buggy somewhat, but even they hitch rides into town in vans rather than risking their lives on the roads.
If the horse is pulling the cart , do you not think in those conditions you should walk and lessen his burden , my father would of given me a slap for sitting on a loadaded cart or would of at least told me to put more dung on and walk
Great cart, great horses, but that dog would drive me nuts. And I LOVE dogs, but not when they constantly run back and forth right in front of the horse.

Ingenious multi-purpose cart you made, thanks for sharing! Mrs. Tc

Very nice set up, and if the wind wasn't blowin it wouldn't be the West. Thanks for sharing
Marvelous design and one that is so versatile too. You are blessed! Thank you for taking the time and sharing it with us!
You two make me smile! What a lovely life!
What a WONDERFUL cart! I've never seen anything like it. Thank you so much for sharing this video. It was truly inspiring. 8-)
Erin Owl Thanks Erin!
That is a very cool cart. You should sell plans for it!
I love how Bob is always in the middle of all the action.
Clever cart! Nice horse!
Thank you
Very impressed! Bravo

Thanks Karen : - ) You'd be welcome to come round and have a go with ours, but I think you're not just down the road somewhere, are you?!

Nice cart, well planned out. Manure is easier to pitch with a 5 tine pitchfork. The one used is for pitching hay.
hahahaha - sure wish we had those kinds of horses here
I love the accent, and that's a terrific cart design. Thanks for posting the vid!
+aNaturalist Thanks aNaturalist!

That's a fantastic looking cart! Is it all made of plywood aside from the metal axel?
the shaft are spruce..

this is GENIUS how did you make it?
I must make a tutorial video one day - but when??? : - )
Way Out West Blow-in blog Hopefully soon!
Brilliant design!! Would the plans be available for purchase at all?
No, sorry, not yet. I must make another video about it though because you're not the only one interested.
Way Out West Blow-in blog Yes please! And then I’ll take one sized for a Percheron.
Your vids always put a smile on my face
Love it very clever wee cart.
what a great little cart. I would have love to seen a "build" video.
+Northwind Homestead Yes, it's still going strong. I made it long before we were videoing things though. Perhaps a retrospective?
+WayOutWest Blowinblog
Perhaps a through walk about at a minimum.

Northwind Homestead is
Amazing idea
cool idea and so creative you should propably wash it before you ride in it lol

Wow! that was well thought out.
It is really imaginative
definitely want to make one of these sooo useful
What breed are your horses? Also for Henry being a stallion, he sure is quiet temperament! Very impressed!
Amy Christensen Irish Cobs, Amy. Yes they are much less moody than most humans we know : - )
We are seriously looking into making a cart like this for our halflinger. Do you have any plans or building tips?

Ingenious!
what do you do when your horse spooks when pulling?
It has happened - luckily we were able to hold his head while he calmed down. Otherwise it could be very dangerous.
Would you please, consider selling or bartering for....somehow sharing the PATTERN for the making of the CART ? What an excellent idea !
We'll be making a new video about this cart soon..

good video
you go to the grocery store by horse and wagon? awesome!
I'd like to see how the under part is put together....
Can you do a video on the size of the cart please
Great video folks. Is there a video on the cart perhaps?
Not yet, but it's on the list of ones to do..
