    • 🙏 Step-by-Step: How to...
    We have a stand of lovely tall, thick bamboo in our garden. It lines the driveway along one side of our property and leads from the house to the cacti greenhouses. There are a few gaps that I want to fill, so I am trying out a few different methods of propagating the bamboo.
    Our bamboo is a clumping type. It does not spread aggressively like the type that sends our runners, or rhizomes, that reach far from the mother plant. Clumping bamboo sends our shoots close to the clump and is easier to constrain. This is not a problem for us as there are no buildings or concreted areas close to where the bamboo is planted.
    There are a variety of ways to propagate bamboo that all appear to work well. In the wet season, bamboo grows very quickly and this is also the best time to propagate bamboo. Given the right growing conditions bamboo is easy and effective to grow. This is wonderful agricultural technology that does not require any special training or equipment. You'll see in the video that I recycle a discarded face mask as part of my bamboo propagation method.

      @@chiefetwful Yes! I have planted more, as you can see in this video th-cam.com/video/fSVsdcDpbso/w-d-xo.html. I also planted another variety yesterday that I'm editing a video about. I also want to plant some yellow bamboo in another area of our garden.

    After seeing the incredibly beautiful forests of bamboo in Anji, south west of Shanghai in China recently (where Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was filmed), my new love of certain forests types is bamboo. I think the Australian bush is stunning and the bamboo forests in China equally stunning. I want to grow it back on our property in Australia. Far more beautiful than the ugly singapore daisy and lantana! Just have to make sure they don't proliferate like as an invasive foreign species. Thankyou for this video!

      @@chiefetwful Sorry, we don't know the specific variety. We were given 100 culms in bags while we were still building our home and just planted them ... this is how I have come to love growing bamboo!

    You can eat bamboo shoots. Their timber like poles and trunks; dry them and turn them into charcoals for cooking and wood materials.

    Just be careful where you plant bamboo because it's rather tough to get rid of. If you cut it out new shoots will just come up again from the large underground root system that develops. Plant killer sprays are not very effective on it. Again new shoots will just emerge months later and it starts all over again.

      I find our bamboo only sprouts at the start of the wet season and stops after 4-6 weeks. The clumping varieties we have are not difficult to control, but I am careful where I plant it.

    Bamboo sequesters over 30% more carbon dioxide than normal trees in much less time too, producing oxygen gas into the air. So can it earn a company or person, CO2 off-set credits. Can that be a viable earnings stream?

    • @suansook
      @suansook  ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt we could earn credits for CO2 offset in Thailand, but farming bamboo is certainly an option.
