I'm amazed how many of these "Survivors" Style games have been coming out recently, it's now a whole new subgenre it seems. Always the same when something simple becomes popular and makes money, "Quick! Make our own version of this so we can make the money too!" At least this is an entertaining Genre for now.
Now for when you REALLY want to see the trend dead, wait for the Triple A industry to start pushing them out. It happened with *deep breath* FPS games, Point and Click adventure games, RTS games (both C&C and 4x style), MMOs, MOBAs, Battle Royals, Soulsbornes (which we still don't have a 'good' name for despite it kicking around for at least 10+ years now), PvP base building Survival games (like Rust etc.) and probably tons of others.
@@luketfer For all those examples, having more money for Art actually adds something. But Vampire Survivors like will not get anything from fancy graphics. If anything, too fancy graphics will make them harder to play. So I think they are pretty much Tripple-A proof. Unless they find a really new angle.

Who else noticed that the bees only aggro'd when you shot at them? They turn red and get faster when you damage them, so you needed to chill out a bit and pick your targets more carefully.
tom played too well. The game feels far more clunky in my hands lol. However you imagine the controls, they are weirder and less intuitive than you think. very cute and fun art style. just wish I didn't hate how it felt.
Oh man, this looks fun. The pixely dogfighting feel suddenly made me nostalgic for the old 2014 game _Luftrausers._ Also, extra appreciation for all the Pierce-based edits, Josh. It makes me hearing my name repeatedly far more entertaining.

I'm not sure if that's really an issue, it's asking the player to manage risk and reward. And lots of games do this kind of thing as well! In an FPS, standing still makes it easier to aim, but makes you a sitting duck. In Smash Bros. falling off the stage will kill you, but if you pursue opponents off-stage you can more quickly kill them. In (most) MOBAs you need to destroy the opposing towers, but pushing too hard leaves you susceptible to ganks. I will admit the turn speed in this game is a little slow, but to me that's to make it feel a bit more like you're piloting a plane.

Honestly, I love pixelart. So many games get is super right. I do feel, that making a game /just/ look like 320*200 is not the way anymore. Low-res is not a problem in itself, but try to make up for it in animation frames/mechanics/something. And I know Tom loves these roguelite shooters, but without some new mechanics or lots and lots of synergetic upgrades, these games start to feel the same. No diss to the developers, but you might try to incorporate some things that relate to aerial combat that will make your game more unique. Just stay away from cards FFS. ♥good luck!
Just an idea as I watch more of this. Maybe let the players use resources to build up on the islands. AA turrets, faster research, free repairs, etc. New upgrades for base structures.
Who else would watch a full Ted talk by Tom's grandmama. She sounds super interesting and wise.

Yeah I didn't really like the art style in this one, the colour palette is hard on the eyes and it's just a bit oversimplified
