I used to have a clamshell rtt I had to use the side access like you are doing Side access is great, unless it's raining, then as soon as you open the side door the rain blows in and you and everything inside gets wet, Murphy's Law says it will rain when you go camping .... These rtt usually have a built in awning over the rear as this is the way to get and out Just wanted to share my experience with you
Looking at the dimensions and knowing OzTrails target audience, this seems to be designed for a crossover 4x4, not a full size 4x4. That's a heavy tent for such a small bed, but I do like the hinge system they have used (I expect that's where the added weight came from).
my - and reading the comments alot of others - main 2 issues with RTT is the weight of them and that they literally take up every bit of available realestate on the roof. saying that, these look like a quality bit of kit. Will you be able to leave your doona / pillow in when it's closed? another great video Mark.
Would love an update on this tent . I like the idea it's not hindge at the base give you a bit more room. Worried that the canvas will conduct to much heat.
Get yourself some rubber matting with air holes, from bunnings the square mats put under your mattress stop condensation, the underlay is crap, watch that you don't get water coming in thru the hinges, had two hard shell roof tops both leaked at the hinge
You might get condensation under the mattress. I suggest 4 pack K-Mart clip together perforated ‘exercise mats’. Glue them down. Aussie Arvos has a vid on it. Cheers 👍🏻🙏🦘
95kg is a ridiculous weight. Manufacturers are going the wrong way with RTTs in my judgement. I'd love just one of them to produce and sell (in Australia) RTTs in the 25-35kg class. They'd be light and "tent-like" in construction, but that'd open it up for a lot of smaller vehicles - and for those who's already (like me) popped discs putting up their 65kg RTT.
Weight, weight and more weight. And it's in the worst possible place. I've gone away from heavy RTT's, and back to a swag on stretcher. Car is much lighter and stable.
I’m considering removing my ARB RTT from my camper trailer due to 1) the weight 2) pack up is a pain 3) in and out via a ladder. Horses for courses, if I was in my 20s or 30s no problem, thinking swags might be a better option moving forward. Aside from the weight this HTT looks good, cheers for the vid.
1200mm internal is just not enough. Internal struts and the scissor mech is obviously the reason. I prefer a 1400 or wider like my old rooftop. Nice tent but not for me. Thanks for the review.
I don't know how it prices but compared to a Bundutec Bundu king Electric lift tent its way narrow with only a 50mm mattress compared to 100mm and the Bundu can also store all of the bedding made up. Plus lighting and electric fans
@@krump743 bloody comfy coffin I have to say. I too have a Bundutop, best bit of kit we've ever added to our Patrol. As previously pointed out, stores all bedding, including pillows, has cooling fans, 12v power outlet and internal light. We've added reading lights, USB ports, switch's to 12v outlet allowing us to run a permanent wired 12v electric blanket (switched). We've also installed a permanent diesel heater, it is the ultimate camp. We were both past ground camping, setting up camp, making up bedding, disassembly and then storing in vehicle. That coffin as you refer to it has all this and more contained in it, it's all accessed in under 2 minutes, including ladder placement, unlatching 4 overcentre catches and pressing a button for 18 seconds to erect it. Totally reinvigorated us oldies to keep discovering remote locations, Cape York, K'gari & Simpson. Go the coffin. Bloody expensive, worth it for totally comfy nights sleep. Unsure if it qualifies for mile high club 😁😂🤣. Luv Luv Luv my Bundutop.
Yer nah mate, take it off put the JB back on. That tents hideous, can already tell from that windless environment you set it up in that its going to flap around.

That end window is a game changer for Hard Shell RTT's. Will really help with ventilation. Amazing build quality. Great vid. Thanks
And that extra 🦶 space on that end 👍
Looks like a decent bit of kit!
Just unbolt the ladder mounts from the side of the tent and mount them on the side of your Frontrunner roof rack using the side channels!
move the ladder brackets from the tent to the roof rack.
On the Defender you can just turn it around and you will have access from the front. That way you won't need the ladder at all ;)

Can't wait to see an update review on this tent.
Looks wicked, would love one on top of our trailer for the kids.

There is going to be a review after some testing.
Do we have a update?
Almost identical to the Drifta XS 1.3 but with an 80mm mattress
Build quality and comfort level looks good the roof looked to be under a lot of pressure already without bedding
looks awesome guys.....oztrail are stepping up the quality 👍

It never ceases to amaze me how much weight people insist on putting on the roofs, especially that high up and a narrow wheelbase offender.
How much weight is this on your roof? I’m wondering if this would way exceed the limit for most vehicles.
The OCAM triangular rtt is 68kg including the ladder . Only 160 mm high and you can still fit your bedding in. 95 kg is just way too heavy!
That hats hilarious😂

Go Fast Campers have one at 50kgs only thing I can’t find a dealer in Australia
inspired overland rrt lightest and alu lt 50 are lightest but…expensive and no dealer in australia. The rest most roofs can not cope😂
make up some ladder brackets that mount to the roof rack
Can’t figure out what tent this is
Just don’t know why they don’t make the base deeper so you can fit a decent mattress , and maybe have slats with a gap under it for condensation.
where did you get that lift mate for your tent to drop it down on your rig?
It's just a hoist (or 2) from a hardware store.

Running to a deep slope, the chance of roll over is high…… will never get a RTT…

@@frankguernier2280 ... the bundutec tents look disgusting. Like ur lugging around a coffin on the roof.

Looks very, unbreathable, and hot

Oztrail - bahahaha. Good luck.
Good, so bear don t climb on the roof..
drop bears dont need to climb
That’s not a good decision
95kgs ! it's a no from me.
