Please keep making more stick welding videos. Most people have stick welders, more then tig welders or mig. I really enjoy your content. Keep up the great work!!

I found this one of the most difficult welds when I learned stick welding. It took a long time before I got the hang of it. Could have used this video for sure.

I went to Georgia trade school and learned how to 7018. Now I am a rig welder working on drilling rigs in West tx, I've had to learn how to use 5/32 since we use it all the time in this kind of work. Still getting the hang of it out of position. I'm running an sa200 though so a bit different. Thanks for the video.

I haven't been in maintenance/welding for many years but I am now in the sales side of the trade, so your videos help me keep somewhat current on the information.

I've watched your 2012 videos, and compared it to 2020. The camera capturing quality improved significantly. We use 7018 5/32 in welding school, common problems.. high amperage.. eating the metal too much on the sides (high ampeargae i guess)

Great series of videos Jody, good to see some efforts in training and use with larger electrodes. 3/32 and 1/8 are great for training, and root passes, but it is a "feather in a welders cap💲" if he can weld fill passes in all positions with 5/32 LH! ✔

Here in the UK, 5g pipe to plate is one of the test pieces given during coding tests. A 6g butt (as per norm) and this test side by side for each procedure as a supplementary test for "EN" and "ISO" certification.

Great video! I’ve heard you mention arc blow and several theories on the podcast and you mentioned it here.
Now, given this is ripe for Murphy to step in and make the process a heckuva deal, how about a video where you do your level best to cause arc blow so we can see it (I’ve never seen it)?

Just another way to explain the reasoning behind moving the ground clamp, simply put...electricity is lazy. Path of least resistance
p+rod, you wont notice a difference, but you will more than likely notice a difference with an excalibur... Coming from someone who was taught to place your clamp as close as possible to your run back in the 10th grade. 13 years later, I still do that wherever possible. It boils down to knowing control. Work smarter not harder.

Just wondering about something I did long time back. I was welding on a project that had a 3 inch thick pipe that was 120 feet across. We were making a mine shaft that was 800 feet long or a better way to say it, the shaft was 800 feet in the ground. We vertically welded the 10 foot by 20 foot by 3 inch thick rolled plate to make the 120 feet wide rings and 4 cranes would set the ring on top of the ring going into the shaft and we would weld the horizontal weld around the perimeter of the 120 foot shaft. I forget how many welders were on the job but we were assigned an 8 foot horizontal weld to make and it was a 3 inch thick plate we were filling the gap on. All the welders were running 1/8 inch 7018 and it would take them 14 to 16 hours to get their 8 foot weld made. We were getting paid by the hour so they weren't in any kind of hurry. The man with the contract was a good friend of mine and I wanted to help him out on the job. He paid me very well so I didn't mind at all to do more than my share. All that long explanation to get to what I was wondering about. I had a 300 amp Miller gas welding machine. I started burning 1/4 in 7018 to get the job done faster and like I said to help out my friend. Jody, have you ever run rod that big and what was your result. I would like to see how you recommend it be done and if I was doing it like it should have been done. I guess I was doing ok because all welds were x-rayed and mine all passed. Just curious what you have to say about this situation.....
