@@LadyBugout I just watched your video again and enjoyed it again lol. It is amazing how you do what you do. Simple life. Life is short and this is not a dress rehearsal.
Thanks for another excellent video, I sleep great in my 2010 transit connect when my English Bulldog doesn't take her half of the bed out of the middle.
I agree with the screen time, although I'm guilty of doing it myself. When I'm camping I generally sleep better and so does my dogs. At home, I have trouble with sleep. So this year we have 3 camping trips planned, but don't tell the dogs, they don't know yet🤣🤣
Great points! I always have a window open at least a bit, and have a stable bed that is somewhat comfortable (a real mattress would be nice! Someday), and try to straighten up before bed. My biggest issue with sleep is that in addition to the 3 am potty stop, my 90-lb pup thinks she should get half the bed about 5 am most days, and my CFS causes sleep-destroying night sweats several times on nights when I am particularly fatigued or stressed, as well as the first couple nights at a new site. Oh, well-there’s always naps!
The final scene of your "night" van is superb, total serenity enhanced by comforting, subdued lighting. When you are not using Lady Bugout, you could probably rent it out via airbnb and advertise it as a return to the womb, cozy comfort at its finest. I use the same apps to find places to sleep. Good idea about visiting the tourist office for advice. Once in a while I go to a ranger station for advice but I will make an effort to stop in tourist offices also, which reminds me that I will be home from India soon and will probably go on a Southwest road trip. Perhaps I could be the first one to rent Lady Bugout, if you will not be using her for 6-8 weeks. I sleep in the back of my Jeep. At night, I just move everything to one side or to the front. Once that is done, my bed is ready. I have window screens and fans which are helpful in the Southwest. Lots of good ideas for a good night’s sleep in this video. You should be a teacher with your excellent planning and presentation skills.
Thanks Dee for discussing a very important topic. I recently did car camping and forgot my fan, so the air flow was terrible and it really affected my sleep.
Great video with excellent advice, Dee. You hit all points, too. I have that issue in regards to turning my brain off. Sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and be wide awake. I'll watch videos by my favorite TH-camrs, you and others. If I don't get sleepy, then I'll watch a boring Bigfoot movie. That usually works...lol.
When you showed how you crack a window. I noticed your louver is loose. You can pick up some double sided sticky tape at an auto parts store and replace the seal. I had to redo mine awhile back. As always, Thumbs up!😎👍
Thank you for your tips that i’m always looking for when it comes to sleep, i get a little anxious sometimes. I like it cooler in my van for best sleep 😊
I really love your little home. It looks so roomy but it’s so tiny. I swear I saw you on I-80 headed east probably a year ago. You stay safe out there little lady. Love your videos and your happy little personality. Happy trails!
Question...for light sleepers, how to best block sounds outside when windows are cracked for ventilation, and to maintain one's safety? Love the idea to listen to podcasts instead of screen use.
Good question! I actually am a very light sleeper. Location is important. Some repetitive sounds can be helpful. There are white noise yt videos that will play all night which can serve to distract from any outside noise. Depending on your vehicle, you can have metal louvres that will be an added safety measure. I made some that I use in areas that I feel I need the added security.
Dee, for me, when I am van camping, just being in nature and having the feeling of freedom helps me go to sleep. Even at a truck stop. Freedom. Definitely helps me by cutting down on every day worries. And another plus is if you don’t like the neighborhood, it doesn’t cost anything but some gas to move.
Hey Dee, I finally became a Lovliness. I have watched your videos over and over for inspiration. And you may have saved Jerry (partner) life, I know so dramatic. I first travel in my Honda CRV and Jerry removed my back seats and passenger front seat and build a platform for Buddy (dog) could look out the window and have room, that was easy. Well I bought a 2012 Ford Transit, inspired by you and showed him your video on how to remove the passenger seat. Well apparently there is a special connector to by pass the airbag I think that's what he said and it might have gone off. So thank you for possibly saving Jerry from a disaster. I have been looking and looking for decorating ideas, and by far your transit is the best. I might be borrowing some of your ideas. Be safe out there. Victoria
Love these tips! I should try audible books. I have a blue light filter on my phone that I use to read before I sleep but listening would be way less eye strain and I won't need to hold the phone. I don't know how many times I've bonked my head with my phone falling asleep reading...🤦♀
I just got 200w on my roof 😅 no more idling 😬 I’m working full time right now so I can’t babysit folding panels, which got old quick. Now I don’t have to worry about power 😅 Now I’ll have power for my computer and George Foreman grill when I park at night 😅
Depending on the oder you like, it can help to having your sheets washed with a relaxing oder, the oder you like obviously. Or even the oder which you favourite granny wore, or yur father. Make it nice and cozy, having an hot water bottle or so. Also colours will mean something to have and get a goodnight sleep. When you like yellow, orange and those kind of colours, do not use them or way less in your sleeping area. Put on a sleep timer radio or some sort, play easy to listen to songs. I can't name you songs, but jazz and the classic sound (violins etc) work for me extremely well. Dee has said it in the video also a nice and gentle breeze will help. Ever tried sleeping nearby a river? Or when rain poors down on your van? That will help aswell. Don't eat just before you go to sleep, it will keep you awake much sooner. Find your moments and your place to sleep. Meaning when crowded with lots of music, sleeping may become an issue. Find a tranquil area. People, I am almost falling asleep speaking about sleep, besides that is almost all I know about my personal way, how and where and when I sleep best.....
For iPhone users, you can set a timer to stop a video or podcast when the timer ends. Clock/timers/when timer ends/stop playing. (You set the time duration)
Sorry … I do have to be disciplined about the dark chocolate crave ! Also if I wake up during the night I just don’t worry because I’m free to sleep later the next morning. It’s so good to listen to your videos thank you so much for the joy!

Hi Dee, great tips in this video and many that can be applied to any living situation . I like to follow the sunrise and sunset as much as possible, mostly because my dogs do it, they can teach me a lot if I just listen 😀 I hope you have awesome week and thanks also for mentioning those two apps. I always wondered if they were of value. Until the next one 🥰
i worry about how i will be as a small woman living in a vehicle i might be too worried or anxious i guess you gotta go with gut instinct sometimes ! lovely set up you have
I understand. I think you just have to try it first and see how you feel. A lot of the fear goes away once you realize that much of it is not warranted. Granted there are real things to fear, but a lot of it is in our imagination too. ☺️
Great advice! Luckily, I haven’t had a problem falling asleep in the van. The only thing that makes it difficult, if not impossible for me to fall asleep is not having the van level. I really don’t like having my head lower than my torso. I’ll either switch ends, or move the van to a more level location.
Thank you Dee. As always very helpful. If I may suggest one or two small things I find that having a routine to put things makes life easier especially when going to sleep A torch is always at hand My car keys are always in the same place every night I always spray my yeti for midges before I get in Preferably if possible 10 minutes before. I have a midge netting screen over my back windows to lower the windows, just a couple of inches, which provides across draft I have the louvres same as you so no rain comes in. I so appreciate your videos! You have such amazing insights and I’m thankful I came across your journey a few months ago! I hope you have an amazing week ahead!🫶
Thanks, good channel I heard someone mention you I think Bob Wills was interviewing this woman. Anyway good advise I went on a four day three night 1000 miles small car camping trip. I can see you learn as you go and I took advantage 😮of the gym showers For 5.00. May interest me in the future!
@@LadyBugout I haven’t seen a video on how long someone doing the van life stay in one area or place. My trip was multipurpose but only used my encore for living space while gone. Storage and too much clutter was an issue. Took shower at at a gym and chose different locations to sleep. Took my ten year old Jack Russel Annie who loves being in a vehicle with me. Would love to see the country this way but not in any financial strain, just appealing in some ways. My property is for sale so weighing options.
Hey Ms. Dee! Wouldn't it be nice if we could have campfires at rest areas, or Walmart parking lots. I've done more Crackerbarrels than Wal marts though.
Use some instrument used by heavy machine workers to protect ear , people living in building facing road get noise pollution. So try to search instrument which will block noise for good sleep. Jay bharat.
First put earphone with relaxing music of nature, then put instrument on ear, after some time remove earphone and put this instrument on ear . Don't eat very high protein food. Protein block sleep. Carbohydrates give good sleep. Jay bharat.
Good advice. I like to hear what’s going on around me though for safety purposes. I also do not eat close to bedtime at all. My last meal is usually at least 3-5 hours before sleep.
Curious if any company has called you for doing shampoo or skin care commercials? You're gorgeous. Love the vids...continued success and health. Much Aloha!
I normally sleep 6 to 9 hours every night. MY TIP: My amount of sleep depends on how many steps I've taken during the day. My goal is 10,000 foot steps a day. Usually I make10 to 12,000 steps. One day last week, I did 16, 000 steps (seven miles for me). That night, I slept like a dead man for ten hours. - Exercise is critical for me to sleep well. I wear an ankle step counter for accuracy. My weekly step total is in the neighborhood of 80,000 total steps; about 32 miles for me. - *I like to live out of my van; not so much in my van.* My van is more like a "bedroom on wheels," not so much a be all home. -
I’m sorry for being off topic, but… when you’re out there all alone, how often does another solo or a group come along? I’m trying to control a fear of someone nefarious coming along when I’m all alone. I don’t trust my gut. It has never been strong, and when you have a fear of something, “everything” feels like a bad gut feeling.
That is a very good question. I am actually doing an upcoming video on that. But, from 4 years experience, I can say 99.9% of the time other people are having the same apprehension. And they are mostly good kind-natured folks having the same experience as you. In 4 years I’ve only had two incidents where I moved because I was not feeling sure about others nearby. Hope that mitigates some of your fear. But I know it is a process. Like anything, it may just be a question of trying little by little with what feels safe for you.
She talked a little about finding a spot at the beginning of the video. I would suggest camping alone at a state park you like several times. You can try & get a spot near the camp host. Graduate up to a national forest campground , then when comfortable with that dispersed camping. Then maybe a Cracker Barrel or something similar in a part of town you are already comfortable with. Or a hospital parking lot.
Thank you both. I live in the suburbs of a rough city and even though my area is safe our “local” news is covered with stories of people pretending to need help just to get close to you. I always want to help people and don’t to be scared to do so just because we’re the only two people for miles.
I am a stealth van life I often pass a place and my gut tells me it's ok to stop there so far I haven't been wrong recently I picked my daughter up from her hairdresser I passed a area and felt that it was perfect and went back and had a good night's sleep. We went there 3 more times. The funny part is that it was on a main street with parking in on side in front of row homes and a large church complex on the other. Good window covers allow no one to see inside nice warm bedding and I always rest well
Question: Do you ever sleep the other direction if it is too hot or too cold and you want to have your curtains drawn all the way across the front? I would think your feet wouldn't mind it and your head could be in the middle section. I am planning to finally take out the front seat. We got a second FTC and we will keep two seats up front in that one for when we go together. That frees me up to remove one, and I am trying to think through how it will work.
Good question. I talk about it some. Mostly, I want a space where I can be comfortable that is mobile rather than a house or apartment in a fixed area. ☺️
I do not. I like to be able to hear. I am usually in places that are not noisy. And when I am, I do sometimes have white noise from my phone (there are free TH-cam videos that play 8-12 hours straight of white noise). Or my fans work to lull me to sleep sometimes.
How thick is your mattress? I am a side sleeper and I find some mattresses to be uncomfortable in my van as my hip is pushing down on the mattress and making contact with the wood platform beneath. I am testing a 4 inch foam mattress right now and it feels better than the self inflating mattresses but I think I need for it be thicker.
Nice life tips Dee. You have an amazing positive personality and are an inspiration to us all.
Thank you! I appreciate your positive energy too☺️

Thanks, good channel I heard someone mention you I think Bob Wills was interviewing this woman. Anyway good advise I went on a four day three night 1000 miles small car camping trip. I can see you learn as you go and I took advantage 😮of the gym showers For 5.00. May interest me in the future!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Wow, that’s a lot of ground to cover in 4 days !!!😜
I usually try to post a comment but, after watching this upload, I fell asleep, zzzzzzzzz. 👍 Dream Weaver 😌.
😂 so glad it lulled you to sleep.
Dee, thank you for sharing these useful suggestions!
Hey Tom, thanks for stopping by. 💃🏻🐞🚗
Thanks for sharing your experience! ❤
My pleasure!!☺️
Great video ❤ x
Thank you!!🐞
Thanks!
Thank you Gregg☺️
What curtain rod do you use for your curtain that divides the driver's area from the back?
Thanks for all of your tips!!! I love your videos.
It is a thin aluminum rod that I picked up at a hardware store. ☺️
Thank you for the tips! Very helpful!!
Glad it was helpful!☺️
A lot of great advice. Just try to limit your NPR exposure lol
Hahah…yeah, I just catch some local weather and traffic then on to a podcast😝
Thanks 👍
You’re welcome! ☺️
Hey Ms. Dee! Wouldn't it be nice if we could have campfires at rest areas, or Walmart parking lots. I've done more Crackerbarrels than Wal marts though.
Yes it would! 😝
Much Aloha!
That is very kind of you to say. 🥰
Hi Dee
Hi Alan
Hey 👋
Hello👋🏼
I normally sleep 6 to 9 hours every night.
MY TIP: My amount of sleep depends on how many steps I've taken during the day. My goal is 10,000 foot steps a day. Usually I make10 to 12,000 steps. One day last week, I did 16, 000 steps (seven miles for me). That night, I slept like a dead man for ten hours.
-
Exercise is critical for me to sleep well.
I wear an ankle step counter for accuracy.
My weekly step total is in the neighborhood of 80,000 total steps; about 32 miles for me.
-
*I like to live out of my van; not so much in my van.*
My van is more like a "bedroom on wheels," not so much a be all home.
-
That is excellent advice!!! Yep, get those steps in, and the fresh air! 🙌🏼
Good window covers allow no one to see inside nice warm bedding and I always rest well
I too sleep better in my van. I have to take care only of myself sooo good… I do have to be diisciplin
So true! 🥰
Such a sweet cozy home
Thank you ☺️🚗🐞
Question: Do you ever sleep the other direction if it is too hot or too cold and you want to have your curtains drawn all the way across the front? I would think your feet wouldn't mind it and your head could be in the middle section. I am planning to finally take out the front seat. We got a second FTC and we will keep two seats up front in that one for when we go together. That frees me up to remove one, and I am trying to think through how it will work.
Yes, I do. I was actually going to say that in the video because I knew there might be questions like yours. But most definitely I do that!
That makes sense! Thanks for the confirmation about "my idea" haha.
New to your channel. Curious what was your motivation to do the van life?
Good question. I talk about it some. Mostly, I want a space where I can be comfortable that is mobile rather than a house or apartment in a fixed area. ☺️
❤❤❤
🐞🐞🐞
what about noise? do you wear ear plugs or use a white noise machine?
Yes, it sounds like you will need it to be thicker.☺️
