  • Join us for a wet day and some great ploughing at the Vintage and Classic ploughing training day. Plenty of advice on offer and plenty of keen ploughmen. Well done everyone and particularly the organisers John Crowder and Laura Dickson. The biggest challenge I had all day was keeping the water off the camera lens.

I think many in the farming community have increasingly lost sight of the important reasons for ploughing which is to properly bury trash etc and particularly weeds to create a perfect seedbed. The move away from traditional skills and designs, universal bodies and narrower furrow bottoms to modern high clearance semi digger wide bottom ploughs operated at high speeds in the dry autumn soils (especially clay) on a routine annual basis has been partly responsible for the problems we now have with black grass etc. Although I’ve gone to a no-till system following ploughing everything with an 11 furrow Dowdeswell DD delta furrow plough, I thing weed pressure, more diverse rotations including grassland etc will eventually lead us to more thoughtful occasional ploughing and these older traditional designs and skills will once again find their place👍

Some very nice ploughing by young and old. It's great to see the older ploughmen teaching the younger ones on how to set their ploughs. Great to see. Thanks for the excellent video.

Some very good ploughing by all the competitors in spite of the less than perfect conditions. It's very refreshing to see the youngsters taking an interest in this event. As good a ploughing event i have seen on here. Well done to all who took part.
    Gotta love a Super Dexta👍

Como é preciso aprender pra se fazer um trabalho bem feito ? Vejo alguns tratoristas que mal sabem por o trator em marcha ,,, e fazem leiras como se fossem plantar batata doce 😮

Depends on the class of ploughing but 6" to 8".
