Great tutorial Frank! Like you mentioned in the video, the 3/4 feel is still tough for me. Any additional hints on how your worked through that?
Great video. I'm always interested in the tunes from "Kind of Blue", which is such an iconic and influential album in the history of jazz and recorded music. According to Wikipedia, it was recorded in two days in 1959 on three-track tape -- "So What", "Freddie Freeloader", "Blue In Green" on March 2, and "All Blues" and Flamenco Sketches" on April 22. As was Davis's penchant, he called for almost no rehearsal and the musicians had little idea what they were to record. As described in the original liner notes by pianist Bill Evans, Davis had only given the band sketches of scales and melody lines on which to improvise. ??? That's amazing. Who does this anymore in this time of ProTools and Logic and Spotify and digital multi-tracking etc, and canned digital drums and AutoTune -- when musicians can take weeks and months on a single song? There's a profound lesson in this -- the music comes first, not the technology. We need to get back to that in a serious way.
Great tune. Thanks for sharing this approach.
