    Debut album from EX EYE, the instrumental, post-everything quartet led by renowned saxophonist Colin Stetson and featuring the otherworldly drumming of Greg Fox. EX EYE seamlessly weave between precise, clockwork intricacy and aggressive, ecstatic abandon while taking the listener on a cathartic, thrilling journey to total transcendence. Recorded live at EX EYE member Shahzad Ismaily's Figure 8 Studios in Brooklyn, NY (Blonde Redhead, Damien Rice, Okkervil River, Son Lux, Pussy Riot), the self-titled debut showcases a band that is without question the sum of its parts, as each player contributes not only their own particular technical prowess and expertise but also their signature compositional character. EX EYE make incredibly complex yet beautifully dramatic and emotive music which eclipses usual expectation of style or genre and is sure to be talked about for many years to come.

    The question I ask all bass saxophonists: where the hell do you get one? I've never even seen any antique ones sold, and I think there's only 1 guy who makes them in the entire world at the moment.

      Luck and a lot of money. They show up at sax shops occasionally, sometimes you can convince them to let you rent but that’s rare. I found mine doing that

    man this is great but I'm really bothered that Liturgy gets so much hate/so little credit when this is so clearly indebted to it. obv Greg Fox drums for both projects which probably partly has to do with it, but beyond rhythmically this is super similar to songs like Generation wrt melody and shit. friggin heck bud

    • @smokabababylon

    I give Relapse credit for standing behind bands they personally dig because there is a very small market for something like this. I don't know how they can make a profit on stuff like this but they consistently do it. Props but I'm not interested.

      Honestly more of these kinds of cross groups are what we desperately need to create novelty, more of the same old nostalgia maybe what bores me. This music feels alive, like spring and summer, unlike fall and winter, it has an energy to it that exudes quality and life.

    • @benng4376
      @benng4376 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So the opposite of metal? That's why I maintain it's a bold move for a metal label to consistently release this type of material. Good on them for doing what they want. Good on you for enjoying it.

    Seems like more people are seeing this vid than the pre-release track so I'll leave my comment here in the hopes that with more eyes on it, SOMEBODY might do me the favor of copying and pasting into their facebook for me since I REFUSE to contact the band through, seemingly, their only method('cause I hate FB and think it's bullcrap ultimately). Anyway, saw the band tonight in Portland at the esteemed Mississippi Studios (the perfect venue really...) and have to say, while they are thrilling and an absolute joy to behold - see them! And, as individuals, they're probably each solid dudes you'd want to have a beer with and talk about music, their band, any band, anything or perhaps nothing at all better yet... just drink, ....AS a band, they're kinda a bunch of dicks. Not only barely acknowledging their audience, or introducing themselves, or where they're from or even anything(and not that that in and of itself is requisite of any band per se), they had the gall to neglect saying ANYTHING about their great warm up act, 1939 Ensemble! Not even a nod. Nothing. The fucking nerve. You arrogant douches... and especially after the incredibly profound plug they threw your way. Now that was classy. You guys however hit the stage and immediately begin to masturbate while sorta giving the impression that we are in fact SUPER LUCKY to be able to watch you masturbate.... I don't know. Little more humility from you guys. Don't get me wrong... LOVED the show. Couldn't stop smiling while you were playing. Really. Ask my wife who commented, 'what are you fucking grinning at!?" Great show. It was thrilling and energizing. But say THANK YOU to and acknowledge your fuckin' warm up!!! You dicks.

      Do you have some personal financial interest in the opening act cause I've seen many great shows where the headliner didn't acknowledge the opening act but it wasn't a dis in anyway! The headliner isn't held responsible to acknowledge the opener in any way and unless you're invested I don't see the problem at all! As a matter of fact they did acknowledge the opener when they let them share the bill so your comment makes absolutely no sense!
