I have always felt that this piece illustrates every aspect of Tebaldi’s greatness better than any other aria in her repertoire. The high point for me comes at ‘voce piena d’armonia’ where she makes a dimineundo on the -nia- and then the portamento down to the sweeping forte lines to the end - ‘che grandezza’ . (And anyone who claims this B is under is deaf.)
The strong declamato, chest voice, firm, beautiful passaggio transition, squillo throughout the range all the way to the top and this heartbreaking phrasing. Only Tebaldi. We can hear why Toscanini was so impressed by her La mamma morta. It's unsurpassed. By the way, this recording is from the complete Andrea Chenier recording in 1957, not the 1950 recital.
most people agree that Callas 1954 la mamma morta studio recording is the best and most emotive recording of this aria, the millions of views speak for themselves. But yeah I can see why Tebaldians always prefer Tebaldi in every verismo roles over Callas
@@judygarland7186 yes, emotive is the right word for Callas' recording of La mamma morta. It was ideal for Philadelphia. Not sure why you keep chasing Tebaldi if you don't like her.
@@Orfeus80 I don't know why you don't like Callas' la mamma morta and where you hear the uneven and disconnected registers that you talked about in other comments. Callas in her vocal prime had great middle voice and well-connected, she always talked a lot about the importance of it in her masterclasses. I try to listen to more and more from Tebaldi to see what everyone finds in her, especially as they say she is better than Callas and they also say that Callas is rubbish as Tosca, Santuzza, Aida, Leonora (la forza del destino etc).
Me encanta esta versión. Aunque la de Lina Bruna-Rasa y la de Callas me gustan aún más. Uff me mata su hermosa voz e interpretación, ya lagrimee y me emocioné varias veces con La Voce Di Angelo.
Si avra avuto anche una boce d angelo ma non sveva certamente il carisma e la varica sensazionale che aveva la Callas infatti quando si parla di lirica la prima vosa che tutti dicono e maria non Renata ormai dimenticata
