    2:13:48 - When Coach Spurrier was asked what it was like to win the first 11th game in the same season in the program's history, I believe he got choked up a bit and had to turn away as if to say, "that's it, I'm done with the interview". I really think Spurrier was going to call it after this 2011 season, but then chose to stay on while he had all that talent on the roster. He ultimately became South Carolina's winning-est coach.
    But also what happened, was due to Spurrier eyeing an end to his time as coach, he stopped recruiting talent into the program. And his staff - sensing that Spurrier was winding down - also stopped recruiting talent. So even though the team would have 3 straight 11-win seasons and finish in the top 10 of the national rankings each season, the fantastic depth of talent the staff had built up drained out of the program as they all graduated or left for the pros. Pretty much EVERY OTHER CFB program in the nation would've worked their butts off as a staff to capitalize on all that unprecedented success, to bring in greater talent and take the next step and start contending for titles, but Spurrier and his staff pretty much called it.
    By the time Spurrier was in the final 2 seasons as head coach, the team was a shell of it's former self, and Defensive Coordinator Lorenzo Ward was seriously thinking about changing the base defensive scheme to the 3-4 - when he had never coached the 3-4 scheme as a base - because he stopped recruiting defensive ends, but had a bunch of linebackers. That was the death knell of the Steve Spurrier Era at South Carolina......

      What you have said is possible but my personal feelings about is this. When Ray Tanner got the AD position that's when I believe Spurrier was about ready to quit. They didn't see eye to eye on some things. When Spurrier was losing alot of players to graduation and NFL. It wasn't long when he had made his mind up. Ray Tanner was a great baseball coach and should have stayed in it. Anyway that's my thoughts right or wrong. Spurrier to this point in time was the best coach at USC.....

    Thanks for posting this. Just watched it again and I swear that South Carolina looks like the better team!!!?? Especially the last 10 min. The Huskers didn't want any more of us. Sorry Bo, Nebraska isn't in the Gamecock's class right now.

    I didn't see Jeffery throw a punch just saying.....

    • @Bitshitter
      @Bitshitter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He didn't. The Nebraska DB was holding and grabbing and clutching at Jeffery all game long. You can only have that kind of contact within the first 5 yds from the line of scrimmage, but the DB would continue for 7-8-9 yds down field, and the refs would never call anything.
      On the play in question, he was grabbing and holding on Jeffery again, Jeffery tore his hands off of his jersey, and the DB swung at Alshon. Then Alshon stepped forward and pushed the DB away with both hands, but NEVER PUNCHED NOR HIT HIM. Then after being pushed, the DB swung at Jeffery for a 2nd time.

    I had a hard time watching this game. My alma mater vs. the team I grew up cheering for. While I was glad the Cocks won their 11th game for the first time ever, why did it have to be against the Huskers? Still, good game for the Cocks.

    As a Husker, this was a hard game to watch. South Carolina was definitely there to win. Big Red didn't look so great. Spurrier finally got the better of the Cornhuskers. Looking forward to Huskers second year under Frost. GBR!

      The Huskers were my favorite team growing up. South Carolina is my alma mater. You see my dilemma here? Tough game for me to watch.
      I wasn't counting on Scott Frost to be a miracle worker on the sidelines in Lincoln, but was hoping for somewhat better results. He's going to have to revive that Blackshirts defense if they're going to be competitive in the B1G...those 62-55 games aren't going to cut it. I think he can get it done if he's given time. This revival won't be a quick fix.

      @@lindseysummers5351 I gotcha. I guess it wasn’t hard for me to pick South Carolina since i grew up rooting for them and went to the school later. I guess if I ended up going to Nebraska it would be hard to pick between the two.
