You heard it, Mother Africa, big mama, Mother Africa. The lyrics grab you by the gut. I had heard it in Brother where are Thou, but did not know it was African origin. Knocks you down. The movements in the dance are chillingly similar to what you see in very old films of already old Puertorican descendants fron Africa doing our variations of BOMBA dance. That style is also similar to other manifestations of Haiti and to Cuban african and Haitians descendants in Eastern Cuba, the musical form is called Tumba Francesa. You demean this kind of spiritual manifestation of strength and survival, you are digging your own grave.
I had the pleasure of seeing the shouters in person last night (2.2.2019) at the Mims Center in Willington SC. Awesome performance, teaching moments and history combined! Looking forward to the CNN special and hoping they're in town when I visit Charleston SC.
Correct grammaticality is based on the grammar of a particular language. African American speech patterns are not based upon European grammaticality African patterns. Unfortunately many Black Americans have internalized their native language as inferior because of Europeans and their racism.

To my Gullah/Geechees... The name Gullah is in the Strong's Bible dictionary as a Hebrew name on the Hebrew section 1353 (Please look this up for yourselves) . Yah'll (we) are Hebrews. Our names were not mis-pronounced as Angola or Golas although some of our ancestors were from there. Geechees are the Yamasee or Yahmassee (Yah) (Yahweh) who were also Hebrews (Maroons, Guale, Yamacraw, Creek Aborigines) Cum-by-Yah, Ah-ha-Yah, We-Ben-Yah (We Son of Yah), Hallelu-Yah
As someone from West Africa, this style of singing and dancing has nothing to do with Hebrew people , and these women are singing and dancing in the exact same way people back home in West Africa dance. The myth of Hebrew/Native American origins is downplaying my own African lineage that is present in America. Be proud to be African Ronald.
