      Is the pixel count from 21:9 aspect ratio at 6:03 correct? First stands for width which would be 1920 and second stand for hight which I case of 21:9 being displayed on 16:9 screen is small than 1080p as you get black bars at top and bottom of the screen.
      1422 by 1080 is more of TV aspect 4:3 than cinema aspect, as you get black bars to the left and right

      Valhalla sucks no matter how you look at it honestly unless if you pretend you're playing an mmo or something.
      I mean people like to hate on Mafia 3 and calling it repetitive and boring but at least the gunplay in that game was fun and the story was amazing, Valhalla on the other hand was boring on both departments especially the gameplay, i don't know how they managed it but it actually felt worse than Origins and Odyssey. It's probably just me but Valhalla's gameplay is the worst out of all previous AC's except maybe Liberation and Syndicate. Remember those mastery challenges they added? God i couldn't even bother trying to complete all of them 100%, me who i've 100% completed every single AC in the past, some of them even twice on PC and PS5. That goes to show just how broken and none interesting the gameplay is especially the stealth system.

      Sadly, it's unlkely that we'll ever get a sequel, at least from those who made the game. Ready at Dawn were acquired by Facebook and will most likely be tasked with making VR games for Oculus. If we do get a sequel, I very much doubt it will go in the direction that Ru Weerasuriya and Kirk Ellis (1886' writers) had intended.

      Honestly a game like this would really sell right now at a time when there is a thirst for quality single player experiences. Sony should have done a 60 fps upgrade for free for this last year when nothing was coming out to gauge interest, kind of like what Remedy did with the Alan Wake remaster, and I’m surprised more devs didn’t do that because it was a dry year for gaming and especially in the early half of 2021 any game getting any kind of upgrade felt like it was in the news for a week and probably got a lot of sales out of it. I’m multiplat and with FPS Boost from XBox I can’t even count how many games I went back and bought that got that feature.

    I feel like RAD is still getting the short end of the stick. They just released Lone Echo 2, which is the culmination of the cinematic approach taken with with The Order 1886 except being in VR and actually living a sci-fi movie is a lot more engaging than watching a movie interspersed with little snippets of a mediocre third person shooter. And Lone Echo 2 is amazing, one of the few VR games worth mentioning in the same breath as Half-Life: Alyx. Yet no one is talking about it at all because it's released as an Oculus exclusive in the "Rift" section when Facebook only really cares about the Quest at this point.
    These people are supremely talented and they've consistently pushed the medium forward. Chains of Olympus was mind blowing at the time for a portable game. They should be experiencing the same level of success that Naughty Dog and Insomniac are.

      Yeah the graphics and animations this studio achieved back in 2015 was incredible honestly I'm yet to see a last gen game even match it in those aspects the order looks way better than tlou2, rdr2 and even god of war.
      The only games I can honestly compare it to are the next gen only ones like demons souls and rift apart and even then the order 1886 stands it's ground against those next games....ready at dawn could've truly been another SSM/naughty dog/Insomniac for sony....it's unfortunate how things have turned out to be
      On the bright side however the technology and the talent that developed it for over 5yrs for the RAD engine was utilised in pushing the fidelity in most of sony first party titles such as tlou2 and God of war
      But just for a second imagine the sony first party roster with a 400employee Ready at dawn at the forefront of gaming technology standing together with insomniac, naughty dog, SSM and Guerilla games.....it would've been truly incredible

    I think the game delivered for what it suppose to be, an immersive, story-driven cinematic experience and I loved every second of it. I didn’t find the gameplay dull or boring because that’s not the focus of the game.

      See I used to be able to enjoy stuff like the last of us and uncharted but I think something changed over the years and now I need interesting gameplay(or an efficient enough delivery of the story) in order to really be invested in a game. Slower paced games with heavier stories seem to have lost their grip on me at some point, and I think it’s because of games like Outer Wilds and The Forgotten City where the gameplay and the in game universe/story are so intertwined that the experience can’t be matched by other art mediums that aren’t interacting with the audience directly. TLDR version of what I’m saying is that I’ve gravitated toward games that take full advantage of the unique characteristics of the art form, and away from games that are heavily inspired by and flatteringly imitate popular blockbuster cinema

      While I agree with the first parts I thought the gameplay was a pretty basic cover based shooter and got boring pretty quickly. Also I think it was a bad idea to start with the mc in prison. It makes it so you already see the order (or at least part of it) as an enemy and makes the story fairly predictable. It would probably have worked better if that wasn't shown earlier. Also while I love the concept of the world you got very little actual lore about why any of that stuff matters or why you should care.

      @nilodragon95 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes, it was pretty short. I think the point in which Luke was wrong (in my opinion) to compare it with RE 8 is that The order 1886 is a lot more linear and limited in its gameplay than RE 8, that limitation forces the player to actually just do the stuff thats in front of him, which was shooting and completing the story, spanning the average lenght of the game to around 5-7 hours total (depending on the player). While in RE 8 you have more freedom to walk around, do different things gameplay wise and also, if the player wants, do collectibles, which gives a lot more variety and fun on the gameplay aspect, ending on a average game lenght time of 9-12 hours. The Order 1886 had a very good and interesting setting, but it failed to be a GAME in my opinion, thats what ultimately killed it.

Depending on the specific game it's about as long to maybe 2 hours shorter than the 7th gen Uncharted, Halo or gears of war games and I can think of very few non-open world shooters back then or even today that break the 10 hour mark. I heavily disagree with this Resident Evil comparison. Not only is RE8 longer by most metrics on various sites and aggregators, RE8 had also much more replay incentive, including many unlockables, mercenaries mode and more openness in its design. The gameplay might be subjective, but the above isn't, and they are in completely different genres which differentiate the two even more. Also, few years prior games like TLOU and Max Payne launched which had a lot of the same trappings as The Order and they received glowing reviews. And a year later, Uncharted and Gears 4 launched and those received great scores too. I just don't see a hidden agenda behind the negative scores The Order got, I just think the game was very mediocre.

    • @carpetfluff35
      @carpetfluff35 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yeah, Resi is shorter by design, because you pretty much have to go through it multiple times to unlock everything. It was made that way, with replayability in mind. The Order had nothing much to offer a second run other than if you enjoyed it enough to want to play it again. I'm not even sure it's fair to hold Resi 8 up as some poster child for shorter games like it was an anomaly for the series; prettty much all of them can be done it 4-6 hours when you know what you're doing. I got a solid 8 plus hours out of The Order at the time, and I was perfectly happy with because I'd enjoyed the journey it took me on - the world they created was interesting enough that I'd always hoped we'd see more of it.

However, I think you gloss over the fact that at the end of the day, all this game had going for it, were the graphics. The gameplay was mediocre and most importantly the story was mediocre. When you push the cinematic aspect of your game so much, as a company, and then the story and characters fail to deliver, that's a grave sin. And sure, I get it, it is subjective. Not to mention I love Knights and such so the combination is a dream for me. I came from 360 with Gears to the PS4 and the gameplay of this game made me feel at home. Minus the Lancer but adding some of its own flair. I really like the slow down mechanic for when your in some tight spots with multiple enemies and having the ability to revive yourself is nice and feels special bc it doest give you a second chance. Some of the weapons feel better than anything I experienced in gears when it comes to bullet related weapons and even some of the Tesla guns are the type I wished I had in a gears game. I like that they wanted to tell a story with gameplay throughout. They had a vision and Im glad they stuck to it as this game shows so much incredible potential. With its plot structure and lore it could be way bigger a sensation that AC imo. They just need to refine a bit add some multiplayer co op or online and it would be perfection in my book.

    I don't think your comparison of Resident Evil Village's playtime holds water. Why? One word: replayability.
    I have yet to play a Resident Evil game where I didn't spend upwards of 40 hours of total playtime in spite of the fact that every Resident Evil game other than 4-6 is under 10 hours long. The reason is because after beating the game you have a lot of bonus content unlock, you can get extra weapons for NG+, and there are plenty of collectables to find as you playthrough the game as well. The Order 1886 is a one and done kind of deal, and its focus on story meant that any since of replayability is thrown out the window too.

I also don't get how he thinks the game was ahead of its time in terms of how cinematic it was because it wasn't. I genuinely loved it, when I eventually got around to it - I loved the story, the world, the cinematic feel and (funnily enough) the realism of the slightly clunky gunplay.

    I enjoyed the game, my problem was that it was marketed as a horror game where you'd be fighting monsters, werewolves and vampires, the first trailer definitely leaned into that, and that just wasn't what the game was. You fought waves of generic human enemies, 4 very dull rinse and repeat werewolf encounters and 2 virtually identical elder Lycan bosses. The story, characters, setting and atmosphere were amazing. I would love a sequel as there was so much potential here but the game didn't deliver on that promise.

    The storyline in this game is actually good. Very good. I hope a sequel happens someday. This game , together with MGS4 Guns of the Patriots (On PS3) , and Dragon’s Dogma were well ahead of their time based on the year they were launched.

      for example, i loved mass effect andromeda, it is my favorite in the franchise, but thats because i didnt really liked the other games.
      i do think mea is underrated(or was before it came to steam), but i also understand WHY it wasnt as loved. i dont go blaming the other games, or make it look like it is better than it is. i understand it is flawled, i understand why many didnt like it but i also love it despite all that.

    You can't build a game on atmosphere alone. Yes it's gorgeous, but when the game forces me to slow to a crawl so I can take it all in, but has the audacity to give you no reason to actually explore anything, it's a recipe for disaster.
    Games aren't movies, nor should they be. Every time my character suddenly started walking and talking I found myself hammering on the non-existent skip cutscene button because I want to PLAY. I don't have a problem with long cutscenes in games, but that's what they should be; cutscenes. Ripping the player's control away within the game itself just makes for a slow, frustrating experience.
    I got this game for free and still wanted my money back. I legitimately can't believe so many people are retroactively deciding it was good all along. When it came out even the professional game critics hated it.

    I used to hate short games growing up but now that im 27 and fully into my career I don’t mind and honestly and enjoy shorter stories and games. A 10 hour game still takes me a week or two to get through especially during football season due to my coaching schedule. It takes me enough time to finish and I get alot of fun out of it.

I just wished it was longer, we got to see more vampires and that it didn't have qte's. Other than that, wonderful game.

    Heavenly Sword also got mediocre reviews largely due to its short length. It was a a great game and could have been maybe an hour longer but it was a really good experience. I really liked The Order and this video.

  • @shoff29
    @shoff29 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really don't understand all the complaints about games being too short. I can't think of any game off the top of my head that I finished and thought, "i wish this was longer." But you know what I've thought to myself a lot? "This game is dragging on, they should've cut this out." I would rather have a masterfully designed shorter experience than an needlessly drawn out story. For example, What Remains of Edith Finch is one of my favorite games of all time. It is only 2 hours long, but I have went back and replayed it over and over again because it's so well designed.
    A game mentioned in this video, RE8, took me close to 11 hours to finish. It felt like the perfect length. Maybe even a bit too long in some sections, but the game did a great job of giving you something new to focus on, and something new to lock you in quite often.
    RE 7 was pretty much the same. Masterfully built from beginning until about 80% of the way to the end. With that game I would adamantly say that it gets substantially worse once you decide who to give the cure to and leave the house. That final section was pretty awful. But again, both games hover around the 10 hour mark, and by no means feel like they are too short.
    Not to beat the same drum but the examples just fit to well. RE 2 and RE 3 remake were about 5 hours each, and they felt like they were long enough. Maybe a bit too much at the end, but still great experiences for the money.
    A game that I finished earlier this year, Red Dead Redemption 2.... While it was a great game, and very well made, it drug on so much longer than it needed to. That entire Cuba section should have been removed or drastically shortened. And there were about a chapters worth of missions that could have been removed. It took me over 60 hours to beat, and by god that was a struggle. Again the game was fantastic and had great elements, but it seems like lately devs want to pad out their runtime and it only hurts the product. You could beat the entire mass effect trilogy 100% in the time it takes you to finish just the base story of RD2.
    I have yet to be able to play The Order 1886 because I play on PC and so i miss out on most sony games (until recently), and honestly when i heard it was shorter that made me excited. Because everyone at the time was saying that it was a very good game but too short. Which i think is something we are missing lately, games with excellent stories that make you want to finish them in one sitting because it is that engaging. I finished RE7 in one night with my wife. I finished RE8 in 2 nights. And they are some of the best gaming experiences i've had in my life.

    My main issue with the game was it kept taking control away from you. As stunning as they were the cutscenes are what let it down.
