Thank you for your time and hard work on all your videos. Sharing your talents with the world is not so easy but is helping a lot of people. And I hope we can all learn together. Thank you again.
Muchisimas gracias, Marcelo! Con este video y el otro con instruccion del ritmo basico de la rumba ya en muy poco tiempo he empezado tocar esta musica tan bella! Usted es un muy buen docente!
Just met Marcelo and two other great musicians at Cafe Madrid, where they were playing. They were all fantastic. Not only is Marcelo a brilliant guitarist but also a great person! We sat and talked as if we had been friends a long time. I agree with Spangari, his coversations are very entertaining and he can keep you laughing. All three of them made it a very wonderful night for my wife and I. We look forward to seeing them play again !
This is so helpful!! Thank you very much. I'm just beginning to play and I love how easy this is to follow. I can't wait to check out your other videos now.
Love your patient explanations... Very help to set up my rumba rhythm.... Can you tell me if that is a tuner on the body of your guitar and if so who makes it...Cheers continue the great playing!!!...

God, I LOVE the Phyrgian scale! How great does it sound when he plays the first 3 notes of that scale in the form of a Spanish triplet! On another note why is there an almost 5 minutes long gap at the end of this video?
Marcelo, I appreciate your style of teaching.Yet, going to your link at Guitar World, there are only 2 lessons that you offer? When you sign up with them, do you not have the option of one teacher?
@MilanPolak given the key. The Phrygian Mode 1st position played in the key of E has no sharps or flats. It is all the same notes as C major as he said.
@Simmen12 LOL yes, you're right. I thought you meant if the gtr was connected from the pick up to a pre amp. I have no idea.......I It's the board they have in the concert hall at MI.
You can get more volume from a rest stroke to emphasize the bass line as a melody. But free strokes are ok as well and more practical when you playing faster.
@mrguitarmarcelo Thanks for this great lesson Marcelo, I enjoyed it! One question, I notice that your thumb, when improvising with the scale at a slower scale, you execute all rest strokes, but towards the end of the video, when the tempo has increased, I see you are no longer using rest strokes with your thumb, just free strokes.. so does the tempo dictate what stroke to use? Thanks!
I really need help on times 5:10 - 6:04 . I really don't understand what he meant and also I couldn't see his right hand very well to see what fingers he was picking with. I just need a breakdown of what he said in that span of time. Fantastic video by the way :)
You can download a PDF using the free code on my lesson page. The code will also give you one week access to my live Q&A sessions. marceloberestovoy.com/guitar-lessons/
Hi. I tried this out last night. Harder than it looks but I got there. Just wondering something. What is the purpose of the rest stroke with your thumb?
It gives you more volume and a rounder tone to make the bass melody stand out. However, you may notice that when playing faster I switch to free strokes. Contact me on facebook if you'd like more info on my lessons
Terrific! Question: When MB moves up the scale and uses the Thumb on the 3rd (D) string, he can no longer use the (P) REST stroke, correct? Does anyone hear the difference?
"Flamenco" and Not 'flamingo' flamingo its a bird! " waving with he's hands.. I love this teacher! 😃😃😃😃😃🏆💯 Your such a COOL Guy! One of the Best Guitar teacher out there! And your my teacher also. Greetings to you and keep on doing a Perfect work.
I reckon that's an excellent introduction to triplets in flamenco, Marcelo! Tell me - when I had some (excellent) flamenco guitar lessons many years ago I was taught that the flamenco - as distinct from the classic/classical - triplet is played with a very slight hesitation after the thumb/pulgar, so before the 2nd of the 3 notes, but that the overall triplet 'length' is the same. What do you think? In my view it makes it sound even more like flamenco!
You're confusing this triplet technique with the tremolo. The classical tremolo is with 3 notes after the thumb, the flamenco tremolo is with 4 notes after the thumb. If you have any more questions you can use "Ask marcelo" on my website: www.marceloberestovoy.com
I’ve played guitar all my life. Marcelo is one of the very best teachers I’ve ever seen or heard. Thank you!

This man is an excellent, excellent teacher and a stellar guitar player.
he looks like a spanish sylvester stallone
He's Argentinian, though -- not Spanish.
He's not Spanish but from South America - I'm going for Argentina or Chile.
That would make him Latin

It's called an E dominant Phrygian scale. It also sounds good if you switch to an E minor harmonic scale with this- gives it further depth.
4:40 Flamenco, not Flamingo! that's a bird.
+Said Abed can u teach us guitar instead of talking bullshits ?
+greatest leader it's not bullshit. If you will respect the guitar and its technique, respect the proper name of the technique.
+Ramon Tristani calm down its just a name
greatest leader I was quoting the fucking guy. Bitch ass.
People just don't really know the art of having conversation anymore... How sad...
@RicardoDiazHimself E phrygian at the beguining of the lesson, then It's E Phrygian Dominant, the 5th mode of the melodic minor scale.
Great editing .... nice patient and clearly explained.
Thx for the right hand technique of using the "come here" stroke, instead of what I've been doing, the mistaken way that you have pointed out.
maestro gracias por los vídeos abrazos desde Perú
I love your lessons, thank you so much.
gracias amigo, hás ajudado mucho mas do que piensas, felicidade

@mrguitarmarcelo Thanks for this great lesson Marcelo, I enjoyed it! Thanks!
I noticed the same thing, does it matter? Can we use free strokes?
@777Grindcorian I use a pick sometimes when I play Jazz tunes. Or if I break a nail in the middle of a gig! :)
Great Master
Thank you, Sir!
He is simple and very clear, maestro.

Your the best teacher man
what happened to the last third of the video? It just went blank after 7 minutes.
I believe that's the end of this particular lesson. This is one part of a series of lessons from some website that probably doesn't exist anymore.
I think videos over 10min in length can be more monitized.... 🤷
Me gusta! Bravo, sir.
Great teacher! - THX a lot - - and some of your comments lighten me up: Flamingo is a bird :D
excellent video !
Terrific! Question: When MB moves up the scale and uses the Thumb on the 3rd (D) string, he can no longer use the (P) REST stroke, correct? Does anyone hear the difference?
Right, because I need the 2nd string open to ring.
"Flamenco" and Not 'flamingo' flamingo its a bird! " waving with he's hands..
I love this teacher! 😃😃😃😃😃🏆💯
Your such a COOL Guy!

@jimiclaptoncarl18 Yes, usually go to free strokes when it speeds up
Verry good teaching
If TH-cam had been available years ago, I might be able to play by now😄
can you make a tutorial about rondena ?? there are no videos about rondena lesson on youtube
