  • Tyler Ekdahl is a B.C native with over 10+ years experience fishing his local waters - so when he says this Chironomid is his favourite pattern, I'll take his word for it!
    There are over 2,500 species of chironomids found in freshwater habitats throughout North America. They are one of the most abundant food sources found in small lakes throughout our BC. Since trout, char, and even kokanee feed extensively on chironomids, these small insects make a great food source for fly-tyers to imitate.
    RECIPE:
    HOOK: Size 14 curved nymph hook 2X
    BEAD: 2.4mm black brass
    THREAD: 70D in colour red and black
    GILLS: White UTC Uni-Stretch
    ABDOMEN: ASB 0.75mm topped off with UV resin
    RIB: Small red wire

    So you don't cover the red wire with the asb? You just go in between wraps?

    Nice fly, wondering why you put the asb on after the rib? Just curious because I do it the opposite.

      I do the asb then wire cuz I find the asb will naturally follow the wire making them match up nicely .. I found doing it asb first sometimes it would match up perfect .. just found this way easier and hope u do to

    Awesome fly Tyler. Thanks for sharing. Ice is off so time to try one. Change your camera's focus setting to manual if you can to hold a nice clear picture of the fly.

    Tyler, thanks for this great chironomid. Instead of switching threads, I'm just going to use my black Sharpie and colour the red thread! If you can't get antistatic bags (ASB), the Togen's blue steel chirony skin is great! :-) I'm out in the East. Lot's of stillwater here. Heading out on Sunday to hit one of the Calabogie backwoods stocked lakes - ice fishing.

      interesting..just a thought, if the black sharpie leaves any odor youll prob miss fish ??

      Interesting point, I personally don't think it's a factor. I've fished dozens and dozens of flies with painted bodies, thread etc and caught fish on them.

      Not to mention the smell of UV Resin. Loved the fly

    • @TroutFreak
      @TroutFreak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I highly doubt either are a factor. I know at least a dozen fisherman who use markers and UV resin on all their flies and they catch fish all day 😁
