Hi John, sending you my condolences, thoughts and prayers. Nice update and appreciated the tutorial on the scalescenes kit, you certainly seem to have the knack!
Hi Nick, thank you so much for the condolences. I’m really glad you liked the tutorial, not sure I have the knack quite yet but the kits seem to get that bit better each time I make one. Thanks for your support, cheers for now, John
Hi, John, Sorry to hear about your Dad. That’s some smooth cutting there. The results look good. It makes a lovely arched viaduct. Some good tips on the assembly too. Rob
Hi John. So sorry to hear that your dad passed away. I don't know whether it was expected, but it is still a shock none-the-less. Condolences to all your family. People deal with grief in all sorts of way, so I hope modelling may be your method. The layout is coming along nicely and I look forward to future episodes. Take care.
Hi Paul, thank you mate, I’ll still be working on the layout it is a good way of thinking of something else. I’ll do an unpasteurised in a month or so and take it from there. Thanks for watching, cheers for now, John
Nice update John. I like the idea of printing the scalescenes kits onto sticky label paper did not think of doing that myself. Sorry to hear about the passing of your Father my condolences to you and your family. Take as much time off as you need and come back when you feel ready. - Nicholas.
Hi Nicholas, hope you’re well mate. It’s a good method of doing Scalescenes kits using the sticky labels, you just have to make sure you stick them to the right thickness of card for that element of the kit. Thank you for your kind words mate, cheers for now, John
Good morning John. i do like your method of building the arched bridge. simple but very effective. thinking if you in these sad times. best wishes you and your family. Tony. Take as much of as you need. we will still be here when you come back.
Thanks Tony for your kind words, glad you liked the viaduct, it’s a good kit and looks quite convincing and I’m sure it’ll look the part when it’s bedded in the layout. Cheers for now mate, John
Hi John, you are one my inspirations for doing Scalescenes kits, so praise from you is worth its weight in gold mate! Thanks for your condolences, cheers John, John
Hi John, great progress and the bridges look great. Condolences on the loss of your Dad, such a sad part of the video but rest assured we will still be here once you have taken the time you need to grieve his loss with your family. All the very warmest of wishes to you all, regards, Chris
Hi Chris, thank you so much, sad times, he will be missed he was a great bloke. Glad you liked the bridges, I’m really hoping they look the part when I get them on the layout. Cheers for now Chris, John
Hi John. My condolences to you & family on the loss of your Dad. It is understandable that you need time. Your follower’s will be understanding I am sure. Look foreword to to your next video, as & when you are ready. Regards Dave, SA.
Hi David, thanks for your kind words mate. I’ll probably be out for a month or so, I’ll still keep working on the layout and do an update of where I’m at when i release my next video. Thanks for your support as always mate, cheers, John
My sincere condolences to you and your family John on your dad's passing. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Thank you for a great video and the Scalescenes bit. It has encouraged me to download one of their freebies to try! In the meantime we look forward to seeing you back when you are ready, we'll all be here for you!
Hi Karl, thank you for your kind words mate. I’m really glad you enjoyed this video , good luck with the Scalescenes kit, the first one doesn’t always come out so well but don’t be discouraged. My first one was the yard office and it was rubbish! But, like I say keep going at them and they do get better and they are such good kits! Cheers for now Karl, John
Hi John a very sad time for you and your family, please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your father. I would not plan or worry about the videos you will know when it’s right but as I found last year when going through a tough time with family illness I found just running the trains or doing bits and bobs on the layout helped take my mind of things. No rush everyone will still be here when you decide to come back with your videos. Take care, Gary
Thanks Gary for your kind words, my dad was one of the good guy’s, really nice bloke and a great dad I’ll really miss him. I won’t be out for long probably a month, Mrs Exehaven and myself are off to Sri Lanka for some much needed R&R, it’s been off and on since dad passed away but after encouragement from mum and my sister we’re going. We do have other issues to with other family members who aren’t very well at all it’s really been a tough time and I think the holiday will do us good. You’re right, I have been working on the layout and it does take your mind off things, I’ll continue to do so and I guess when I do my next video it will be an update to where I’ve got. Cheers for now mate, John
Hi John- Sorry to hear the sad news and its difficult losing a parent who has supported you your whole life and leaves a big gap . I have lost both mine and Mel lost her Dad last year and its hard . As I know there are lots to do and only after the funeral and other things are sorted can you actually grieve . Love to you , your family and importantly your Mum and come back when you are ready. Cheers Kev
Hi Kev, thank you for you kind words and the text mate it really is appreciated. My dad was one of the good guy’s and a really good dad, we’ll really miss him. Mrs Exehaven and myself are off to Sri Lanka tomorrow for a much needed holiday. It has been on and off since dad passed away and with a couple of other family members who aren’t well at all it hasn’t been a good time. Funeral won’t be until after we get back so my mum and sister have encouraged us to go. I’ll still keep working on the railway and do an update when I post my next video. Cheers for your support as always Kev, John
Hi John, condolences to you and your family for your recent loss, thank you for the advice on the scale scenes kits, I have used a freebie of theirs and thought it was worthless, I’ll continue to keep on going with it tho and hope I improve, very helpful vid, I’m with you on the points issue too, seems very sensible to me.many thanks. Take time to make sure you come back when it’s right for you.Phil
Hi Phil, like I say you have to persevere with the Scalescenes kits, use the free downloads to practice on, I built the yard office as my first attempt and it was rubbish! But I’m sure you’ll crack it and when you do you’ll be pleased as they are really good kits. The points are going to stay where they are as it’s the only solution really, i like to be as prototypical as i can but to be honest there are always compromises with model railways. Thanks for your condolences, cheers for now Phil, John
Hi Euan, thank you so much mate, I’ll be back in a month or so and I’ll continue to work on the railway and I’ll do an update when I come back, cheers for now, John
That bridge looks the business John - a really good model - well done. As for the point - it would be more difficult to get it working on a slope, but it really doesn't matter if its not prototypical - its your layout, your money and your enjoyment at the end of the day. I couldn't get my MP1 motors working on a raised bed / slope because the height meant the rod bent instead of switching over so I reverted to surface points. They worked but meant a different accessory driver was needed. This was one of the reasons why I started again. So sorry to hear about your dad, my condolences to you and the family. Take care. Regards Steve
Hi Steve, thanks and I’m glad you liked the bridge, it does look quite good and I’m hoping once it’s bedded in with the scenery it’ll look really good. Now that point is staying where it is, i like to try and be prototypical but it’s almost impossible with a model railway. You’re right to, my railway, my money and my enjoyment. To be honest it was meant to be a simple two double track loops with not many points, lol, goodness knows how many there will be in the end, but at the end of the day I do enjoy the challenge it brings. Thank you so much for your kind words, cheers for now mate, John
Nice update John, thanks for the tips on attacking the Scalescenes stuff. Condolences on the loss of your Dad. BTW, Cheltenham Spa is a good example of a station on a curve if you need a reference😊Chris
Hi Chris, I’ll check out some pictures of Cheltenham Spa station because Exehaven Town station will definitely be on a curve. I hope the tips were useful, the more you make them the better you get. Thank you very much for your condolences, I’ll be back in a month or so, cheers for now mate, John
My condolences to you and your family on the death of your Father John. So sorry to hear that. John, please accept our condolences, such a sad time, don’t really know how you made that vid, other than you feel you somehow you have to keep going. I/we had e-mailed you. Your bridges look great and once the boats are in place it will just make it. Take care. Dave at N Gauge Broadstead.
Hi Dave, thanks for your condolences, to be honest I had kind of made the video except for the last bit. I haven’t done anything more since the last video but I’m hoping to get a couple of hours in the cabin this weekend. Cheers, John
Thank you Paul, I’ll probably be back in a month or so with an update, I’ll still keep working as it’s a good way of thinking about something else. Cheers for now mate, John
Nothing wrong with the crossovers being that side of the bridge. It could be there for historical reasons. The original bridge to the harbour may have originally been a single track bridge due to funding for the build. And when money was available under the big 4 grouping, the bridge was replaced to remove the bottleneck, but the existing junction was retained as it was a cost saving as they didn’t need to build a new box or move the existing one
Hi, i really like your reasoning and I shall use that, the junction will stay there now as it really is the only place they can go. Thank you so much for commenting, it’ll be nice to hear from you again, cheers for now, John
Hi John! I could watch and listen to your Scalescenes kit building escapades all day long! I find it all very interesting! You've made a great job of the viaduct! I'm wondering whether I could try a similar kit for Shelfington Viaduct, which I will need sooner rather than later! I'm glad you've decided to keep the points on level ground, as I think having them on a slope would be a constant source of running issues! I'm wondering if you could use under-track solenoid motors if extended throw bars would be too long to throw the point? It would mean cutting holes in the raised foam section, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem! Take some quality time with the family to celebrate your dad's life and make more memories, and then come back and motorise them points! :) All the best mate, Ian.
Hi Ian, well Mrs Exehaven and myself are in Sri Lanka as I write this. It's been a holiday that's been off and on since dad passed away.
