You can't use it to pretend that Frodo is a dwarf and not a hobbit or that Harry Potter can't use magic. The anime established the rule that everyone who gets the code loses the geass. ALL precedents show that and Charles explicitly confirmed that. Lelouch never lost his geass, so he never got a code. You can't make up fantasy rules which are not supported by the anime, or worse, contradicted by the anime. Death of the Author is all too often misused by people who are too in love with their own opinions. On top of that Death of the Author is part of postmodernism which is an obsolete philosophy abandoned well over a decade ago because it was rife with internal contradictions. Lelouch does not have a code, he is dead. that is a FACT, established by both the anime itself and the show staff.
For me personally the revelation that it would be an alternate timeline completely soured me. I was expecting a true sequel and this felt like a cheap retcon for a quick money grab.
YEah changing the timeline changes the story 100%. They just marketed it as R3 to get people to show up. Its not a sequel in any way shape or form, its 100% a fanfiction.
The issue I have with this is the fact that they announced a 10 year plan when it premiered in the states. That is to this day all we’ve been given. What does that plan look like? Should we expect movies or shows, if so how many? The fact that they say everything is planned out despite not having anything to share with us is what is killing the series. They could have immediately bumped up sales if they said the movie was there to ease you back in to the true R3 we are developing for 202X (X better be lower than 2) but no, we are most likely going to have 2 more movies 5 years apart by the rate they are going and they don’t want to let us know since they also realize how underwhelming this is. They might not even do that now since sales tanked to be fair. They might just assume the community doesn’t care while in fact it is the miscommunication that is dissuading committed fans like me.
most, if not all, code geass side projects take part in alternate universes: nightmare of nunnally, suzaku of the counterattack, renya of darkness, oz of the reflection, tales of an alternate shogunate. i can understand if someone was unaware of these things it could seem like a money grab. but in general AUs have been code geass' thing for a decade. i didn't expect differently of the film. i never saw anything official say anything about a new season, just a sequel to the recap films. which are also another code geass AU. this was a classic case of fans overhyping something they knew almost nothing about then getting mad at the franchise rather than themselves when they had developed unrealistic expectations.
I think you aren't being fair with that view. Movies and series are always made for money. There isn't anything wrong with making another version of the story.
Honestly, 99% of Code fans wanted R3 to be a contiuation of the original series in a form of a season of the anime or a movie, not a new alternative timeline for which no one cares about.

Code geass lelouch at the rebelion had an perfect ending, there was no reason to continue it, but to respect teh series they shoudn't allow its universe to die that easily, they should have made a new story focusing on other characters. Using Charles as an example, why they didn't made a pre-quel telling charles story, how he became the emperor of britania, the enemies he fought, his relationship with V.V, Marianne and C.C , that would be awasome Plus they could tie it with some things of Code geass Lost Colors just for the sake of fan service.

Why would I get excited about a sequel to a series that already had a perfect conclusion? I was so disinterested in this project I didn't even know there were three recap movies before watching this video.
I think there are many shows or properties with multiple versions, not just one, so that isn't something they haven't seen before. It's happened before and will happen again.
Well honestly them making this an alternate reality kinda thing was a smart move in my opinion. If it was a continuation of R2, it would've' sullied the almost perfect conclusion. The movie is more like a fun little what if scenario for people who wanted to see their best boi happy, and I'd say let em have it.
I think if they went all in on the alternate timeline stuff with things like Zero winning the Black Rebellion or V.V. giving Suzaku a Geass it would have been better received. It'd basically be fanfiction but it would at least be very different.

I remember the hype of "Season 3" and then it became a movie. I was really excited but had school and couldn't watch the movie since it came out on a weekday. I still haven't watched it, and kinda don't want to.
It's my favorite anime, and the ending is still amazing. The new film I saw, and it def needs 2 watches to truly understand everything that goes on. The ending leaves it on a cliffhanger so to speak

What would they tell about the original universe? They probably tell a story something like r3 without lelouch but a new material withouth lelouch would be less exciting.
The truth is that code geass didn't need a continuation, it had a perfect ending (although it left a lot of questions unanswered). I think they made the movies more like a cash grab as they keep relaunching code geass blue ray and DVD special editions from time to time. I saw red flags as soon as they announced that there would be no 3° season, just a movie tied to the recaps (not even connected to the main series ) . We all wanted a code geass continuation so much that we forgot to ask if we should

Me personally, the timeline change isn't the problem. My problem with this new route is that the little changes and 1 character not dying doesn't warrant a new timeline, let alone the money spent making it. If you're going to make changes to a timeline, then make them. I hated watching the same stuff all over again. But on a different note, I loved R3. And hope that we get more.
Code Geass has never, ever officially used the term R3. That's only fanon, not Canon. The movies were always meant to be in another continuity. It's not a secret. Further, it's phsycially impossible to keep all of the existing content in a summary trilogy unless you made each movie like four hours long. There will still be more Code Geass after the new movie, which isn't what they would be doing if the film was judged as a commercial failure.
I hope there will be more. I'm sure they're not thrilled because of how the movie did. Which would be a shame, the movie was good, and I'm excited for season 3.
When the trailer for the project came out, it was meant to be a third season, a continuation of the original series. There was gonna be a third season and for a long time nobody knew when it was coming out until last year they announced it would realease in early 2019. MyAnimeList even had a full blown page waiting for the realease of a series rather than a film. I've been waiting for this for the past decade, trying to follow as good as I can and since then I've been hyped, I've been cheated but the release of the movie over the series cut me in the back like a chef's knife.

I think they could have milked the living crap out of a code geass trilogy. If they kept hype properly, they could have funded and profited off of three movies taking place after Zero Requiem. The first film could have revolved around reviving lelouch. The following two films could have centered around lelouch using the same means in which he was revived, in order to revive Shirley, Rolo, and Euphemia. Those characters were all killed off to further the plot, and they were all validated, and understandable, but now that the series is done and over with, and has been for 10 years - bringing back dead characters would do little to nothing in affecting the way people would see the series. Hell, the last film could've had a moment of self-sacrifice, where Lelouch would sacrifice himself to bring back Shirley. The plot was there. The money was there. They just botched it. Honestly, there's enough open plot-holes, fans, material, and profit to make a legit R3 season, not just a movie.

One year after this video and 4 years after the announcement of R3. Im still not happy that because of some assholes who wanted a perfect ending, we didn't get a 3rd season. I don't care about your perfect ending and just wanted a continuation on R2
Okay, but I have to ask...what was there left to do? The story basically wrapped itself up in a bow. About the only thing to watch is world peace and Lelouch...I dunno, trying to live out a private life with C.C. out in the sticks? The end literally has him solve the most and major issues, that being war on a world-wide scale and colonization, as well as uniting the world. As much as I enjoyed, and still enjoy rewatching Code Geass, there isn't really anything that they could have added. But I do appreciate that you wanted more. If the guys making the movies had said that the four would be their own continuity, in my opinion, it would have gone over better. Not great, because now all the character we watched the series for were now severally different (I'm assuming, I haven't watched the 4 films) especially considering the character development and world building that the original show gave us.
Original anime had such a perfect conclusion that it is truly impossible to add anything extra on it without ruining it, only way I can see that they can legitimately make more code geass without any remakes and rebuilds is to ether make a spinoff like they did with Akira, or bring lelouch back and make like dr. who type show about c2 and Lelouch adventuring in this new world he has created, something minor like that, going beyond the scope of the original show would be a failure IMO
Tbh having just watched the movie, I actually like it. I mean, even though the animators have made an alternate reality, to me , the events of the movie could have very well taken place in the current timeline. I mean people didn't actually expect peace to last forever after Lelouch "died" in R2 did they? Sure the ending of the movie itself might not have been as grand as R2 but I really liked it and will look forward to further CG content even if it's in this alternate reality :) Edit : the only thing I didn't understand was the point of bringing back Shirley with all the movies :/

Dark DeathLord The problem with what your saying is the R2 ending left a lot of people believing that Lelouch actually survived. It was a cliff hanger if you really paid attention to the series and how the Code worked. That final scene with C2 talking to Lelouch was what left that possibility alive. It would make sense that since Lelouch killed Charles he would have gotten the Code, and after he died he would have become like C2. So it would make sense to have an R3 where Lelouch would return if that was the case.

When i first found out about the continuation i was pretty hyped Code Geass was back at that point my most favorite anime but after that hype i immeadiately realised it was unnecessary and knew it would not be on the same quality as it was before. It was obvious they would not meet our expectations Imo
Everything about Akito was an insult. Even though the remakes were wildly inconsistent in quality and some of the changes were kinda lame and borderline pointless, and even though this new film was nothing special, the Akito films were far worse in almost every way. The CGI did get better in the later Akito movies tho, but yea early on, the CG was bad, almost as bad as the writing and how it added nothing but damage to the canon.

This is absoltely not worth entertaining for the sake of anyone here but fuck it, here's a more detailed versions of some of my main sticking points as far as I remember. 1. The geass fragment stuff was a convoluted, nonsensical power addtion with its own plot holes and lack of real explanation as for how C.C. can give it (apparently kids cannot handle a full geass even though Mao had one when he was way younger that was an uncontrollable ability and not necessarily representative of a geass being physically impossible for kids to handle given the powers are user-specific). The geass powers are convoluted enough in the main series without this stuff. Leila's geass fragment lets her sorta teleport Akito and the main antagonist despite them still being in thet original location. It also lets her see a vision of her parents conversing with her without knowing it's her, and I guess she can see and project other people's memories, but none of this is explained well at all and we never get a definitive effect if the geass she has so they could grt away with a fragment having multiple powers when a normal geass only has one. It's more powerful and versatile than the regular geass, so how come kids can handle that but not normal geasses? It's also a literal deus ex machina as a geass goddess explains this to her in the 11th hour so she can basically save the day by surviving and sorta tepeporting (but not really, I guess) Akito and the main antagonist after almost everyone around her gets riddled with bullets. 2. They barely explored anything new with the setting outside of new mechs and orphaned rebels. We don't even exore the EU which was namedropped in R1 as a force Britannia took out of the equation when Lelouch was rebelling. That was and still is an established part of the setting we haven't explored, instead focusing on Akito and co. in somewhat sometimes familiar locations as they win battled and get happily ever afters before never being seen again, and Euro-Britannians are thrown in halfway for their own plot point. 3. The characters barely have anything to them. I don't get why Julius flips out over water of all things, ans when they do explore the characters, it's done via rushed backstories that still don't give much reason to care about these largely one-dimensional characters. Characters are often introduced and forgot about, like Smilas who was planning to become a dictator, only to not even be in the final movie until the literal last few minutes after the main conflict is resolved. The pacing of these circa 1-hour movies is too fast for them to really keep up with their cast of characters or let things breathe. It's far more difficult to care about the characters, their backstories, or their current situations as a result. 4. Major spoiler: Julis kinda raises a few questions. Charles can only alter people's memories with his Geass power, so how come Julis is a completely new entity and personality from Lelouch that can be overwritten like after the end of Akito? It feels like they just wanted to have some form of Lelouch just to say they did, but realized it would be a pain to write around while keeping the beginning of R2 with amnesiac Lelouch in tact, so they did it anyway and kinda made a mess. The water stuff was never in the main series, so I don't know why they botheted for the Akito series, or why Rolo escorts Suzaku absolutely Lelouch for the latter to get overwritten to what he was at the start of R2. 5. Yeah, I still hate the CG for half of these movies, and even in the later movies, they don't often feel well-integrated. The camera also zips and zooms around so much in the action scenes that they are legitimately dizzying and painful to keep track of. I can't wven enjoy these movies as action spectacles as a result. So yeah, I thought there were a lot of things wrong with Akito the Exiled.

I wish these films went all in on the alternate timeline and we get stuff like Zero winning the duel with Suzaku on Kamine Island and weirder stuff like V.V. giving Suzaku a Geass. At the end show it's C's World giving Lelouch different peeks into the multiverse.
the fact it was a completely different timeline did bother me at first but i got over because i enjoy code geass as a series and i was mostly just happy to see some of my favorite anime characters once again in a new story despite the fact lelouch was brain dead for the beginning of it i enjoyed seeing the reaction from his friends reaction when they discovered he is alive. although i cant say i was the most excited for the movie i enjoy code geass a lot for its characters as well
I watched Resurrection without seeing any of the other movies and it fit very well with the original two seasons. So I'd just recommend ignoring the redone early movies and only watch the OG anime and Resurrection.
I watched the 2019 movie and tbh it was meh for me. Should I watch the other movies? From what I read, they are just recap movies but they also have extra scenes? Is it worth?
I knew about it I wanted to go actually :( I just couldn't go T-T I was nowhere near a theater playing it I don't drive I am begging that they release it on DVD... XD I was ok with the ending of R2 but if they continued or remade it I was hoping we'd see the confirmatiom lelouch survived and more or what everyone has done with their happy ending which is kinda what we got but yeah I wasn't able to support it in theaters cause small towns don't release anime films and I can't easily get to Denver on my own.

Retconning Shirley's death was probably a mistake, at least in how it was handled in the films. Her death was a major inciting incident for Lelouch, it's what made him decide to destroy the Geass Institute instead of capture it. The wholesale slaughter of that operation led to distrust of Lelouch as Zero and, at the very least, contributed to his unmasking.

Yeah I'm afraid you should end the journey there. The universe of R1 and R2 ends with R2. The new films are a completely different take on the story and start right from the beginning
While R2 as a whole was a bit of a mess it ended perfectly. I understand the reluctance to make a genuine season 3 but the whole idea of an alternative timeline just makes the entire thing significicantly less interesting. add to that how the new movie itself lacks many of the things that made R1 great originally and its a disappointing state of affairs indeed.
Being in australia and wanting to see R3 was mostly hampered by the fact that the only cinema was screening this was over 2 hours away and only screened for a week with limited runs which were middle of the day to mid afternoon :/

I seriously don't understand what was the point of rewriting the story. All this money money could have been gone to making another original franchise as amazing as Code Geass. Or maybe Just a straight up season 3 so that we could know what happened to Lelouch. My most favorite anime series that the anime world had ever made was the Code Geass R1-R2 and it's very satisfying CG R3 the movie was that the original ending of it. Though i don't accept the truth that Shirley did still alive in the movie, i'd been afraid of the conclusion that Lelouch may come to Shirley and they will end up to each other. But I'm so happy that it never happened. I've been a huge fan of the anime/series for a while now, part of me wants to believe that Lelouch and CC get to live together forever and happiness; but the other part of me knows the truth and I think it's better that he chose to atone for his sins in death. He had created so much hatred and disgust towards him as a person that he had nothing left in the world to stand for and accomplish other than bringing universal peace. With his death he brings the fate of the Brittanian lineage with him, leaving a new world to govern and choose to live how they'd like. I would love an OVA or just a glimpse of the world following R2 or Lelouch possibly still alive and watching the world he molded himself advance as he wished, however I think the ending of R2 is a perfect enough end to the story and think that deliberately over telling a story would just make the series boring. It's up to us to believe what we wish, the best part. You know how you can tell an Anime is good? You overthink and remember it for years to come. Join the club.
the fact they retconed this still saddens me. The 4th film could have tied into the original series if Shirley wasn't in it. She did nothing at all. the series is far superior in my opinion. With that said I still loved the newest movie. Im sad though that the alternate version cut out all the good stuff. Shirleys death was vital to the idea that Geass users only suffer. They also took put Mao who in my opinion needed more screen time. If they would have told me that they were gonna give me a "what if this happened instead of this" I would have been ok because I love the Geass universe and am open to new ideas with it, but the way it was handled left me shaken for weeks after I saw the movie and pieced everything together. all in all Geass is still my favorite series.

The anime established the rule that everyone who gets the code loses the geass. ALL precedents show that and Charles explicitly confirmed that. Lelouch never lost his geass, so he never got a code.
You can't make up fantasy rules which are not supported by the anime, or worse, contradicted by the anime.
Death of the Author is all too often misused by people who are too in love with their own opinions.
On top of that Death of the Author is part of postmodernism which is an obsolete philosophy abandoned well over a decade ago because it was rife with internal contradictions.
Lelouch does not have a code, he is dead. that is a FACT, established by both the anime itself and the show staff.
For me personally the revelation that it would be an alternate timeline completely soured me. I was expecting a true sequel and this felt like a cheap retcon for a quick money grab.
YEah changing the timeline changes the story 100%. They just marketed it as R3 to get people to show up. Its not a sequel in any way shape or form, its 100% a fanfiction.
The issue I have with this is the fact that they announced a 10 year plan when it premiered in the states. That is to this day all we’ve been given. What does that plan look like? Should we expect movies or shows, if so how many? The fact that they say everything is planned out despite not having anything to share with us is what is killing the series. They could have immediately bumped up sales if they said the movie was there to ease you back in to the true R3 we are developing for 202X (X better be lower than 2) but no, we are most likely going to have 2 more movies 5 years apart by the rate they are going and they don’t want to let us know since they also realize how underwhelming this is. They might not even do that now since sales tanked to be fair. They might just assume the community doesn’t care while in fact it is the miscommunication that is dissuading committed fans like me.
most, if not all, code geass side projects take part in alternate universes: nightmare of nunnally, suzaku of the counterattack, renya of darkness, oz of the reflection, tales of an alternate shogunate. i can understand if someone was unaware of these things it could seem like a money grab. but in general AUs have been code geass' thing for a decade. i didn't expect differently of the film. i never saw anything official say anything about a new season, just a sequel to the recap films. which are also another code geass AU. this was a classic case of fans overhyping something they knew almost nothing about then getting mad at the franchise rather than themselves when they had developed unrealistic expectations.
They also said this new timeline is the new canon tho so this movie is still technically canon now to any future projects
I think you aren't being fair with that view. Movies and series are always made for money. There isn't anything wrong with making another version of the story.

Code geass lelouch at the rebelion had an perfect ending, there was no reason to continue it, but to respect teh series they shoudn't allow its universe to die that easily, they should have made a new story focusing on other characters. Using Charles as an example, why they didn't made a pre-quel telling charles story, how he became the emperor of britania, the enemies he fought, his relationship with V.V, Marianne and C.C , that would be awasome Plus they could tie it with some things of Code geass Lost Colors just for the sake of fan service.

Well honestly them making this an alternate reality kinda thing was a smart move in my opinion. If it was a continuation of R2, it would've' sullied the almost perfect conclusion. The movie is more like a fun little what if scenario for people who wanted to see their best boi happy, and I'd say let em have it.
I think if they went all in on the alternate timeline stuff with things like Zero winning the Black Rebellion or V.V. giving Suzaku a Geass it would have been better received. It'd basically be fanfiction but it would at least be very different.

What would they tell about the original universe? They probably tell a story something like r3 without lelouch but a new material withouth lelouch would be less exciting.
The truth is that code geass didn't need a continuation, it had a perfect ending (although it left a lot of questions unanswered).
I think they made the movies more like a cash grab as they keep relaunching code geass blue ray and DVD special editions from time to time.
I saw red flags as soon as they announced that there would be no 3° season, just a movie tied to the recaps (not even connected to the main series ) .

Me personally, the timeline change isn't the problem.
My problem with this new route is that the little changes and 1 character not dying doesn't warrant a new timeline, let alone the money spent making it. If you're going to make changes to a timeline, then make them. I hated watching the same stuff all over again.
But on a different note, I loved R3. And hope that we get more.
Code Geass has never, ever officially used the term R3. That's only fanon, not Canon. The movies were always meant to be in another continuity. It's not a secret. Further, it's phsycially impossible to keep all of the existing content in a summary trilogy unless you made each movie like four hours long. There will still be more Code Geass after the new movie, which isn't what they would be doing if the film was judged as a commercial failure.
I hope there will be more. I'm sure they're not thrilled because of how the movie did. Which would be a shame, the movie was good, and I'm excited for season 3.
When the trailer for the project came out, it was meant to be a third season, a continuation of the original series. There was gonna be a third season and for a long time nobody knew when it was coming out until last year they announced it would realease in early 2019. MyAnimeList even had a full blown page waiting for the realease of a series rather than a film. I've been waiting for this for the past decade, trying to follow as good as I can and since then I've been hyped, I've been cheated but the release of the movie over the series cut me in the back like a chef's knife.

I think they could have milked the living crap out of a code geass trilogy. If they kept hype properly, they could have funded and profited off of three movies taking place after Zero Requiem.
The first film could have revolved around reviving lelouch.
The following two films could have centered around lelouch using the same means in which he was revived, in order to revive Shirley, Rolo, and Euphemia. Those characters were all killed off to further the plot, and they were all validated, and understandable, but now that the series is done and over with, and has been for 10 years - bringing back dead characters would do little to nothing in affecting the way people would see the series.
Hell, the last film could've had a moment of self-sacrifice, where Lelouch would sacrifice himself to bring back Shirley. The plot was there. The money was there. They just botched it. Honestly, there's enough open plot-holes, fans, material, and profit to make a legit R3 season, not just a movie.

About the only thing to watch is world peace and Lelouch...I dunno, trying to live out a private life with C.C. out in the sticks? The end literally has him solve the most and major issues, that being war on a world-wide scale and colonization, as well as uniting the world.
As much as I enjoyed, and still enjoy rewatching Code Geass, there isn't really anything that they could have added. But I do appreciate that you wanted more. If the guys making the movies had said that the four would be their own continuity, in my opinion, it would have gone over better. Not great, because now all the character we watched the series for were now severally different (I'm assuming, I haven't watched the 4 films) especially considering the character development and world building that the original show gave us.

Original anime had such a perfect conclusion that it is truly impossible to add anything extra on it without ruining it, only way I can see that they can legitimately make more code geass without any remakes and rebuilds is to ether make a spinoff like they did with Akira, or bring lelouch back and make like dr. who type show about c2 and Lelouch adventuring in this new world he has created, something minor like that, going beyond the scope of the original show would be a failure IMO
First of all, I didn't even know there was a recap movie let alone 3 being released.
Tbh having just watched the movie, I actually like it. I mean, even though the animators have made an alternate reality, to me , the events of the movie could have very well taken place in the current timeline. I mean people didn't actually expect peace to last forever after Lelouch "died" in R2 did they? Sure the ending of the movie itself might not have been as grand as R2 but I really liked it and will look forward to further CG content even if it's in this alternate reality :)

Dark DeathLord The problem with what your saying is the R2 ending left a lot of people believing that Lelouch actually survived. It was a cliff hanger if you really paid attention to the series and how the Code worked. That final scene with C2 talking to Lelouch was what left that possibility alive. It would make sense that since Lelouch killed Charles he would have gotten the Code, and after he died he would have become like C2. So it would make sense to have an R3 where Lelouch would return if that was the case.

When i first found out about the continuation i was pretty hyped Code Geass was back at that point my most favorite anime but after that hype i immeadiately realised it was unnecessary and knew it would not be on the same quality as it was before. It was obvious they would not meet our expectations Imo
I can't watch the code geass akito of the exile thing. the CGI ruined it for me. couldnt support it.
Everything about Akito was an insult. Even though the remakes were wildly inconsistent in quality and some of the changes were kinda lame and borderline pointless, and even though this new film was nothing special, the Akito films were far worse in almost every way. The CGI did get better in the later Akito movies tho, but yea early on, the CG was bad, almost as bad as the writing and how it added nothing but damage to the canon.

No surprise, of course, as the community had already conclusively proven that code theory was a hoax and the anime itself contradicted it by making it literally impossible for Lelouch to have a code since that would have violated the established lore.

@@ibn_adham Bro, you really tryna teply to an ancient ass over a year old comment to start arguing, huh? This is absoltely not worth entertaining for the sake of anyone here but fuck it, here's a more detailed versions of some of my main sticking points as far as I remember.
1. The geass fragment stuff was a convoluted, nonsensical power addtion with its own plot holes and lack of real explanation as for how C.C. can give it (apparently kids cannot handle a full geass even though Mao had one when he was way younger that was an uncontrollable ability and not necessarily representative of a geass being physically impossible for kids to handle given the powers are user-specific). The geass powers are convoluted enough in the main series without this stuff. Leila's geass fragment lets her sorta teleport Akito and the main antagonist despite them still being in thet original location. It also lets her see a vision of her parents conversing with her without knowing it's her, and I guess she can see and project other people's memories, but none of this is explained well at all and we never get a definitive effect if the geass she has so they could grt away with a fragment having multiple powers when a normal geass only has one. It's more powerful and versatile than the regular geass, so how come kids can handle that but not normal geasses? It's also a literal deus ex machina as a geass goddess explains this to her in the 11th hour so she can basically save the day by surviving and sorta tepeporting (but not really, I guess) Akito and the main antagonist after almost everyone around her gets riddled with bullets.
2. They barely explored anything new with the setting outside of new mechs and orphaned rebels. We don't even exore the EU which was namedropped in R1 as a force Britannia took out of the equation when Lelouch was rebelling. That was and still is an established part of the setting we haven't explored, instead focusing on Akito and co. in somewhat sometimes familiar locations as they win battled and get happily ever afters before never being seen again, and Euro-Britannians are thrown in halfway for their own plot point.
3. The characters barely have anything to them. I don't get why Julius flips out over water of all things, ans when they do explore the characters, it's done via rushed backstories that still don't give much reason to care about these largely one-dimensional characters. Characters are often introduced and forgot about, like Smilas who was planning to become a dictator, only to not even be in the final movie until the literal last few minutes after the main conflict is resolved. The pacing of these circa 1-hour movies is too fast for them to really keep up with their cast of characters or let things breathe. It's far more difficult to care about the characters, their backstories, or their current situations as a result.
4. Major spoiler: Julis kinda raises a few questions. Charles can only alter people's memories with his Geass power, so how come Julis is a completely new entity and personality from Lelouch that can be overwritten like after the end of Akito? It feels like they just wanted to have some form of Lelouch just to say they did, but realized it would be a pain to write around while keeping the beginning of R2 with amnesiac Lelouch in tact, so they did it anyway and kinda made a mess. The water stuff was never in the main series, so I don't know why they botheted for the Akito series, or why Rolo escorts Suzaku absolutely Lelouch for the latter to get overwritten to what he was at the start of R2.
5. Yeah, I still hate the CG for half of these movies, and even in the later movies, they don't often feel well-integrated. The camera also zips and zooms around so much in the action scenes that they are legitimately dizzying and painful to keep track of. I can't wven enjoy these movies as action spectacles as a result.
So yeah, I thought there were a lot of things wrong with Akito the Exiled.

This was me, too. I only kinda wish there was more Lelouch and CC traveling moments. Preferably when Lulu has his mind. Otherwise, this was what I wanted. I’m happy!

Nothing happened on Season 3, there's no Season 3, just another spin-off.
I wish these films went all in on the alternate timeline and we get stuff like Zero winning the duel with Suzaku on Kamine Island and weirder stuff like V.V. giving Suzaku a Geass. At the end show it's C's World giving Lelouch different peeks into the multiverse.
the fact it was a completely different timeline did bother me at first but i got over because i enjoy code geass as a series and i was mostly just happy to see some of my favorite anime characters once again in a new story despite the fact lelouch was brain dead for the beginning of it i enjoyed seeing the reaction from his friends reaction when they discovered he is alive. although i cant say i was the most excited for the movie i enjoy code geass a lot for its characters as well
yeah, i have mixed feelings about it too. i don't hate it but it does make less sense than the original r2 timeline
I watched Resurrection without seeing any of the other movies and it fit very well with the original two seasons. So I'd just recommend ignoring the redone early movies and only watch the OG anime and Resurrection.

I watched the 2019 movie and tbh it was meh for me. Should I watch the other movies? From what I read, they are just recap movies but they also have extra scenes? Is it worth?
I knew about it I wanted to go actually :( I just couldn't go T-T I was nowhere near a theater playing it I don't drive I am begging that they release it on DVD... XD I was ok with the ending of R2 but if they continued or remade it I was hoping we'd see the confirmatiom lelouch survived and more or what everyone has done with their happy ending which is kinda what we got but yeah I wasn't able to support it in theaters cause small towns don't release anime films and I can't easily get to Denver on my own.

Retconning Shirley's death was probably a mistake, at least in how it was handled in the films. Her death was a major inciting incident for Lelouch, it's what made him decide to destroy the Geass Institute instead of capture it. The wholesale slaughter of that operation led to distrust of Lelouch as Zero and, at the very least, contributed to his unmasking.

Yeah I'm afraid you should end the journey there. The universe of R1 and R2 ends with R2. The new films are a completely different take on the story and start right from the beginning

While R2 as a whole was a bit of a mess it ended perfectly. I understand the reluctance to make a genuine season 3 but the whole idea of an alternative timeline just makes the entire thing significicantly less interesting.
add to that how the new movie itself lacks many of the things that made R1 great originally and its a disappointing state of affairs indeed.

Being in australia and wanting to see R3 was mostly hampered by the fact that the only cinema was screening this was over 2 hours away and only screened for a week with limited runs which were middle of the day to mid afternoon :/

I liked some of the changes, so that is a matter of personal view.
The changes weren't even important ones. One character got less screen time and didn't die. That's it.

I want to see Lelouch have children and they were killed/kidnapped. But later he finds out that they were controlled by a body switching geass user so Lelouch went to C world to get their souls back but Schneizel turns back on him after another geass user control schneizel like such

No they don't the anime ended perfectly and there's no need of an R3 that's why these movies with alternate timeline was made so it doesn't mess up what the anime established

My most favorite anime series that the anime world had ever made was the Code Geass R1-R2 and it's very satisfying CG R3 the movie was that the original ending of it. Though i don't accept the truth that Shirley did still alive in the movie, i'd been afraid of the conclusion that Lelouch may come to Shirley and they will end up to each other. But I'm so happy that it never happened. I'd loved the last part that they'd got going travelling together and forever as C.C. and L.L.😍 Thank You Anime Creator and Director of the Series/Movie for giving me/us that wonderful ending😘😘😘😘😘😘😇😇😇😇😇😇
I've been a huge fan of the anime/series for a while now, part of me wants to believe that Lelouch and CC get to live together forever and happiness; but the other part of me knows the truth and I think it's better that he chose to atone for his sins in death. He had created so much hatred and disgust towards him as a person that he had nothing left in the world to stand for and accomplish other than bringing universal peace. With his death he brings the fate of the Brittanian lineage with him, leaving a new world to govern and choose to live how they'd like.
I would love an OVA or just a glimpse of the world following R2 or Lelouch possibly still alive and watching the world he molded himself advance as he wished, however I think the ending of R2 is a perfect enough end to the story and think that deliberately over telling a story would just make the series boring. It's up to us to believe what we wish, the best part. You know how you can tell an Anime is good? You overthink and remember it for years to come. Join the club.
the fact they retconed this still saddens me. The 4th film could have tied into the original series if Shirley wasn't in it. She did nothing at all. the series is far superior in my opinion. With that said I still loved the newest movie. Im sad though that the alternate version cut out all the good stuff. Shirleys death was vital to the idea that Geass users only suffer. They also took put Mao who in my opinion needed more screen time. If they would have told me that they were gonna give me a "what if this happened instead of this" I would have been ok because I love the Geass universe and am open to new ideas with it, but the way it was handled left me shaken for weeks after I saw the movie and pieced everything together. all in all Geass is still my favorite series.
