I side with the Fujiwara, because just in case you didn't know, the Fujiwara famously married their daughters into the imperial family. This allowed them to control the court for 200 years. I mentioned this because Linfamy apparently never did.✌️✌️✌️

@@KCDarkRanger Spanish is the one with the ñ that used to be a double n, not French. Although French does this with ^ on vowels that used to be followed by an s. But once you know the rules of French pronunciation, it's easy because they're consistent. English is a big idiosyncratic mess by comparison. Easier than kanji, but not straightforward at all. What's difficult in French is the grammar, like "here's a rule, but also here's a list of exceptions as long as my arm."

When you do the Genpei war don't forget to add Taira no Tomomori, he was probably the best and most ruthless general on the Taira's side. Hes also famous for killing himself in the most bizarre way, tying himself to an anchor and jumping in the ocean. Its also believed that the reason why the Heikegani crabs in japan have faces on their back is from the souls of Tomomori and his samurai warriors that joined him.

Well, long ago in Japan, food is the basis of money for the peasants, which comes from the farm, which needed people to do agriculture stuff. So back then high ranked people were given a land which can produce like 1.000 koku (Japanese quantity of rice, correct me if I'm wrong) of rice, or 5.000, or 10.000 koku, which mostly also identical to the size of their land. So yes, money does grow on rice stalks.

The history of The Samurai is a repetition of the conflict between heike and Genji.
Heike drives Genji out of power, and Genji regains power. For example, Genji expelled the Heike and the Kamakura Shogunate was established. However, the Kamakura Shogunate was taken over by Hojo, a descendant of the Heike family. However, Hojo has been deprived of power by the Ashikaga of Genji's descendants. However, Ashikaga is destroyed by Oda Nobunaga, a descendant of the Heike family. However, Oda Nobunaga is killed by Mitsuhide Akechi, a descendant of Genji. And on behalf of Akechi, Toyotomi, Oda's heir, takes power. Toyotomi is destroyed by Tokugawa. The Tokugawa family continuously calls for Genji

So, in the end, after Heian, Japanese history is just a spiral of fighting for the throne in the name of good old revenge between these two bushi clans? 🤔 Welp, good bye, Fujiwara, your 200 years of marrying your daughter into the imperial family is nothing compared to these generations of fighting between the two bushi clans.😁 At least we will remember Fujiwara for the usefulness of their daughters to their clan.😏

Salamander Red To answer this question, you'd first need to establish that all these people mentioned above actually stem from the *same* two lineages out of dozens. There are problems with that; since either we are pretty certain that is not the case (and by the way, there were also a ton of Fujiwara bushi out there), or we can at least suspect some genealogies are pretty much made-up: once we hit the Muromachi period, it becomes apparent that warriors had begun switching their ujina (the proper term for the type of name that Minamoto, Taira, Fujiwara belong to) for more or less strategic or political reasons; this obviously makes no sense, since you can't just suddenly be descended from someone else! To cite probably the most prominent example, Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, originally referred to himself as a "Fujiwara" in his documents and only years later began signing with "Minamoto" instead. So what should one believe is right in such a case? oô

Hmm interestingly, this is also during the era when Vikings discovered North America. Also around the time Christianity was slowly taking over the Viking culture. Which ultimately led to them settling down. Seemingly disappearing off the historical map.

Vikings held a kingdom in the north of France called Normandie. William, Duke of Normandy, a Viking and descendent of Vikings, invaded England and took it by storm in 1066. William established French as the court language of England. England is a Briton and Saxon land conquered by the Vikings.

Have you read either The Take of Heike, or The Tale of Genji? I'm a bit more than halfway through the former. And thanks for showing the characters for Genpei, since otherwise I would have still wondered why that name versus another. I'll also ask you a question I asked the superintendent of the schools I worked in while a JET ALT... why in Japanese is there that change in sound from time to time? You know, like tokidoki, hanashibanashi, etc, versus something like mukashimukashi or hinihini? Perhaps it's a silly question from my horse-deer mind....

First Shogunate in Japan. On August 21, 1192, Minamoto Yoritomo was appointed a shogun, or Japanese military leader. The actual ruler of japan. Since minamoto is basically royalty, mean that shogun is just another monarch/kings since they from same bloodline as the emperor ... Why don't they just straight up take throne rather than created shogun system ...
