WKRP Intro, long version

  • WKRP theme by Steve Carlisle.
A catchy song for a favorite show deserves an extended intro.
‘From town to town, up and down the dial’. A Program Director came to work at a small AM radio station and stayed four years.
From Andy Travis’s perspective, this video looks back on his work and relationships at WKRP after he has moved on.
Most of the original employees did by the time of the reprized ‘New WKRP’ 10 years later.
Michael B. Kassel’s book “America’s Favorite Radio Station WKRP in Cincinnati” gives good insight to the hands-off production and evident chemistry between the cast that influenced the stories of the original show and made it such a unique MTM property.

This is one of those iconic theme songs that never got the full credit it deserves. This song brings me back to a much better and simpler time. We had no cell phones, computers, or social media for that matter. These days were really the best and sadly they are gone forever, but at least I had the privilege of growing up in that era. I often play this song because it reminds me of those better times, when we all use to get along much better, and there was not so much hatred in the world. Thanks for posting!!!

That verse is chilling. Travis always seems sad underneath, and it explains why eloquently.

This only one of three shows (other 2 are One Day And A Time and Alice) that bring back a wonderful feeling of nostalgia, watching my mother enjoy Alice and One Day as a little boy and the feeling of my parents leaving for a pilot company party and watching WKRP with the sitter… weird, wonderful memories

I worked in radio for over 20 years in several states. I literally and truly lived this life! I completely relate to the lyrics. And it was a great TV show! Many years ago radio actually kinda was like this! And it was super fun.

Answer me this one question. Why is it that when you call into the radio station and actually ask for them to play your favorite song they tell you what song to ask for?! For the life of me I cannot understand why they don't play with good music anymore that's part of the reason why the Internet and Spotify have taken over. When I was growing up in the 90s( as a teenager) you would hear music on the radio all the time but it's the same song out of maybe four hours of listening to music you might hear three good songs in the entire playlist.

I can't believe this TV show came out when I was just a year old and it stopped right before I turned 5. Man, I'm getting old king I know it may be hard for a lot of people to believe but I used to watch this when I came home from school back when they had television reruns. They don't make TV good like this anymore ! It just goes to show you that good work passes the test of time ! Every time I hear this song I remember my mom being in the kitchen cooking dinner and my dad coming in from a hard day's work oh the memories
. Rest in peace to all the cast members that have passed on!

I liked the show as a teenager because all these ‘grownups’ had regular problems.
Then there was Les and his teletype machine. And waiting for the ‘ratings’ book in the mail. Not a computer in sight.
The more things change, the more they stay the same - but you can order take-out faster.

Sure sounds like Richard Sanders, it was Steve Carlisle.
Sanders sang a line from “Pack up all your cares and woes” song while goofing around to make Jennifer laugh in one episode. That’s part of the WKRP The Musical clip I last posted.
