The Safeguard definitely is a kill switch to wipe out all life in the Silo. I don't think just wiping everyone's memories would suffice since info about the tunnel could prevail through cryptic codes like Salvador Quinn left.
I initially thought that, but I wonder if by Quinn writing the code it broke the rules, triggering the safeguard. Bernard credits Quinn for coming up with the idea to drug the silo, but what if this was actually the safeguard and the AI created false information for future IT heads to make it seem like it was Quinn's plan. I still think it's more likely that the safeguard is a kill switch though.
@jaseypea agreed. I think Bernard knows that if the rebellion succeeds it will get everyone killed and it's not the 1st time he knows of this. He knows the other silo rebelled and got everybody killed too. So he secretly a good guy trying to protect everybody. But it's too much. But yes, failsafe probably gets everybody killed.
I agree but even if its a kill switch the question becomes what method is used, there is a large supply of water, poisoned air from outside, steam from thermal vents. Many potential scenarios
The whole point of the suit is to walk back to Silo 18 and wave at the camera. They won't have a choice but to open the door. Especially if Juliette puts up a sign that says I, Juliette live. Open the damn door.

A possible scenario: It gets out of control in Silo 18, even with Juliette's intervention, and Silo 17 becomes a refuge for survivors from Silo 18, especially those whose memories don’t get wiped. The reason I think this is a possible outcome is because it appears the Safeguard had already been initiated in Silo 17 with devastating consequences. The Safeguard seems to trigger different outcomes depending on the situation. Bernard might ask the AI to initiate a protocol from the Safeguard in Silo 18 when he feels he has lost control. Lucas might be behind those who escape Silo 18, helping them plan their escape in secret, as they are aware of the Safeguard. In the books, they eventually find they can live outside towards the end.

Maybe the safeguard pertains to the outside connection to Judicial as depicted in the hard drive schematic. There has been no explanation for why that connection exists yet
It was leading to IT, not Judicial, but that connection might just be a power conduit from an outside source, probably silo 51, since we know that the IT department receives its own power source independent from the rest of the silo.
@@aarcas No, there were two different tunnels, 1 in IT and 1 in Judicial. We don't know where either lead, we only know that the IT tunnel provides some power to the servers. Judicial tunnel could be how Lucas will come back.
Question: are there cameras watching within IT itself? They said in the show that “technically” there were 51 Silos… I was wondering if this Silo 51 is something else based on what they said about Bernard having an IT key that he answers to when it lights up, and then there is that mystery voice we heard in the tunnel?

Tunnels connect to the other silo's used to repopulate dead silo's. Once the people are transferred they get their memory wiped to forget about the other silo. The safeguard is the filling of a silo with deadly gas... Silo 17 currently can't be repopulated because it is flooded. I believe that Juliet will drain all the water and use the tunnel to rescue some of the people from silo 18 before the deadly gas is released by the AI to stop the spread of information. Many people will still die in silo 18.. and some will make it to silo 17 to continue their life.
My money is the closing scene of season 2 will closely mirror the closing scene of season 1... S1 we saw her disappearing beyond the view of Silo 18; S2 will close with her walking into view of Silo 18's windows.

Does everyone realize that none of the tech in the vault would work for Solo? He was not IT Head or the Shadow so the computer would not acknowledge him like the Algorithm did not acknowledge George Wilkins. Solo only knows what he could read or maybe there are films there he could eee without the computer.
I think everything would be easier if you tell people inside the Silo that you need to be compliant and fair otherwise everyone would be destroyed. the AI is like god. And tell there is a prize in the end, the best silo would live in 300 hunder years. This would give people a purpose.
in a new featurette Adam from mythbusters did a video with the set designers and prop people from the show and they were discussing the sets in silo 17 and especially the school room. but one thing they said that was interesting was that "silo 17 was for the creatives". Here's what I think happens in episode 10 and no I haven't read the books so if it matches then I'm sorry. I think Knox is setting up an ambush for the raiders as you do, I think Sims will intercept Bernard and take his key. So when Jules shows up Bernard isn't able to shut down the screens. I wonder if Jules will let eater come with her? They have 2 suits. nah. She's safer back in 17.
That video was just released and I suspect Adam Savage was told to delay its release because of the things the set designers talk about. I do think he filmed this before Episode 1 even aired. Probably before they even started filming. But because the set designers would know certain things by default, and used terminology like "the creatives" in their talks with Adam, I think it was decided he had to delay the release. Even now that piece of information is probably not intended for distribution but ultimately involves history of the Silos that won't get explored. So the delay was due to the display of the numbers on the slate. Because in the interview it was discussed how important those were in the show. Although to be fair, I knew those numbers were door combinations that had been tried and I wondered why Juliette never considered that as a possibility.

So none of these will happen.

My money's on the reset theory via the Algorithm deploying a mass memory wipe on Silo 18's commoners, otherwise why mention the drug in previous episodes this season? It must be this series' Chekhov's Gun... Utilizing the forgetfulness drug either through the water supply or in an aerosolized or gas form through HVAC ducts (excepting IT and Judicial because they seem to have self-contained systems). It would save lives on both sides, preserve the Silo's infrastructure and diffuse the insurrection when the dissidents coudn't remember why they're rebelling in the first place. Reeducation. reorientation and redefining the roles of some of the Silo's denizens might take some time, but order would be restored and considering how small the gene pool actually is (50 Silos with a total population of 500 K), it would mean a genocide was averted.

I think Camille and the deputies will join the rebels and hold off the raiders until Jules shows up on the screens. Bernard will try to shut down the screens but Sims will intercept him and get his key. Once everyone knows she's alive the fighting will end. now will we see this in the last episode or will they cliffhanger it with her approaching 18?

A total thumbs UP on All your predictions. That said, I'm still hoping that Juliette and "Eater" put on the two suits, and walk to Silo 18. That would be very, very dramatic--and conclusive proof that Juliette is alive. Just having her talk to Lukas on a radio wouldn't convince me, if I was a Silo 18 dweller. I'd need to SEE her in the flesh. Also, poor little step-child, abused "Eater" needs to find a new home, where people will treat her better than Super-Villian-in-Training, Audrey does. There's also a theory/prediction/hope that Silo 17 becomes a "Safe Haven" for people who don't want to live under the oppressive regime of the Silo IT Heads; who, I assume, are ALL as manipulative as Bernard. Lastly, on the "Safeguard." That could be the Wild Card to the conclusion of this season. What if Juliette (and "Eater") walk into Silo 18 through half-open doors, and find the entire silo flooded with a memory-erasing/reset gas. ALL of the inhabitants (except maybe Bernard & Lukas) are asleep, and when they awake they remember NOTHING going back a few years. Juliette & "Eater" breath the air, after taking off their helmets, and remember NOTHING about being in Silo 17--and wonder "who" they are...why are they together/relationship. This would be a total mind-fuck by the series, and the viewers wouldn't know WHAT to expect form Season 3. I have NOT read any of the books--but, would LOVE to see a Big Twist like this.
A very slow show and only a little meaningful story progresses per season. When comparing it with Dark which also felt slow, but story never felt uselessly stretched and Dark was the perfect series I have ever watched.

It is time for her to go back to Silo 18, the lighting is way better there. All those season 2 episodes are very dark and almost blurry to watch. A script mistake in my opinion, losing a lot of enthusiastic followers. It is in no way cinematic. Lots of people will re-code the video file and crank up the gamma and contrast. Who cares what the "SAFEGUARD" is, It all leads to season 3 and 4 already recorded like they did with "BACK TO THE FUTURE 2 & 3". My guess, shooting season 2 only took a week or so, mostly studio (green wall) stuff. There is no special effects at all.
I want to see the fighting people of Silo18 stop midway and look at the screens with their mouths agape, watching approaching Juliette and Eater. Just her voice saying some like 'Is anyone there' and only Lukas hearing her voice realizing she is alive won't do it for me. I hope they keep the satisfaction level up; the way they did in this penultimate episode.

The Safeguard is the AI that controls everything and if things are not the way IT wants, it will kill everyone.

Episode 9 was called Safeguard but they didn’t explain what safeguard is..
The writing & pacing of this season was awful.
They introduced the concept of the Safeguard in this episode. I loved this episode, one of the better ones of this season.
It is time for her to go back to Silo 18, the lighting is way better there. All those season 2 episodes are very dark and almost blurry to watch. A script mistake in my opinion, losing a lot of enthusiastic followers. It is in no way cinematic. Lots of people will re-code the video file and crank up the gamma and contrast. Who cares what the "SAFEGUARD" is, It all leads to season 3 and 4 already recorded like they did with "BACK TO THE FUTURE 2 & 3". My guess, shooting season 2 only took a week or so, mostly studio (green wall) stuff. There is no special effects at all.

I want to see the fighting people of Silo18 stop midway and look at the screens with their mouths agape, watching approaching Juliette and Eater. Just her voice saying some like 'Is anyone there' and only Lukas hearing her voice realizing she is alive won't do it for me. I hope they keep the satisfaction level up; the way they did in this penultimate episode.
