- Tender Trap - I uploaded this video again because the first upload looked anorexic :-) I just love watching Marc Wilder dance. Every time I watch this clip, I think of how graceful he was and how well he complimented Debbie Reynolds. Even though, in the movie plot, this was supposed to be the "uncool" rendition of the song, I found Wilder's dancing to be VERY cool. I saw this movie when it first came out. And, each time I saw the movie since,, I always looked at Debbie in this dance scene. A few months ago, I got a copy of the movie and watched it again. But this time I noticed her dance partner for the first time. I'm so glad I did. A graceful, generous and skilled dancer. I kind of have a huge crush on him now.
P.S. A shout out to fellow TH-camr: LarsBonner, He told me the correct name of the dancer in this scene. His name is Marc Wilder (born Marcello Miarani). I had previously thought this dancer's name was Jack Boyle. LarsBonner was also a personal friend of Marc's who bore witness, not only to Marc's talent but character. He told me that Marc was also a kind man. Thank you Lars.
Debbie and Frank were superb in the film. Forgotten how thin Frank was, once.
As for Debbie, she was the classic "sunshine" 1950s Hollywood girl, always upbeat
and cheerful. Her death, a day after her beloved daughter Carrie dies is incredibly
tragic.
Still the man after all these years.
There was only one Frank.
Yessss serrr!!
They don't make movies like this any more. They tried with 'La-la Land' but it's only a specter of what once was with mega talent like Debbie Reynolds.
Debbie Reynolds didn't know how to dance. She trained for like 5 months and did Sing in the Rain. Emma Stone trained for 3 months and did La La Land. You can easily see the difference.
So true!
You would train for 5 months if you were dancing with other mega talents. Plus the tap in Dancing in the Rain was insanely hard.
What a great singing lesson from Frank SINATRA to Debbie REYNOLDS !!!
albertdiner n
This is incredible! And I want to find a lady who would look at me adoringly, the same way Debbie looked at Frank at the piano.
Two huge talents.
As a young boy growing up in LA, I saw this film when it was released in LA with my folks & sisters & Luv'd it... & seeing this film clip decades later, I instantly recall why, Sinatra, the music of Jimmy Van Heusen & Sammy Cahn & this Fabulous cast
Debbie Reynolds, that face, those eyes....
The tender ones in that outstanding historical movie ! Merci beaucoup from Paris France and take care.
Glad you enjoyed it Emmanuel. Greetings from the Bronx:)
@@somefavs Merci beaucoup dear American new friend. Emmanuel
@@liberte5847 You put a smile on my face today!. Merci beaucoup dear new friend from France.
Two wonderful Stars, so much missed. Thank you for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it! Plus, because of your comment, I got to watch it all over again myself so, thanks:)
Multiple talented man frank with all the many people he ran with. There will never be such talent in there generation again
How amazing to hear Frank say my name😍
Yes - Marc Wilder was a terrific dancer who came along just at the right time for so many wonderful musicals. Thanks for acknowledging him in the description.
Perfect!
Marc is such a beautiful dancer .
Just impossible not to click that like button. Great movie, great song.
That dancer is not "Jack Baker." His name is Marc Wilder and he is a featured dancer in many films: In "Can-Can," he plays "Adam" to Shirley MacLaine's "Eve" in the "Garden of Eden" ballet; In "Kismet", he is one of the two men (with Jack Dodds) who dance with the Princesses of Ababu in "Not Since Ninevah." In "Meet Me in Las Vegas" he partners Cyd Charisse in the "Sleeping Beauty Ballet" and in "The I Don't Care Girl," he dances with Mitzi Gaynor and Matt Mattox to "The Johnson Rag."
My favorite movie of all time PERIOOOOOD
The American sound at its best. Also Frank Miller is very good on that jazzy piano.
I love this wonderful movie!
The master showing how it's done.
Thank you so much for this. I saw this as a first grader when it came out. And thanks for the information about dancer Marc Wilder. I still love, love the musicals of the 1950's and all those talented people who made them what they were and are.
Makes me happy that you enjoyed it. I may have been in first grade when I saw this too:) Pop loved the musicals.
This was one of my first Video editing projects so I didn't have the know-how to only save the selected area of the video. Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed the first 4 minutes and 25 seconds of it :)
Before I re-watched the movie last night,I checked the movie's credits and it had the same info as IMDB. Turns out it was ALL me.
So, you knew Marc.Wow! I have been wanting to find more from him for a few years. I found it hard to believe Tender Trap was his biggest part but I was searching with the wrong name. I can't thank you enough for letting me know who he is/was.Been watching Marc and Cid's dance over and over again. So full of grace...as also were your comments.
Nice to meet you.
Annette
Glad you enjoyed it.
I love watching FRANK Sinatra.
Sinatra at his peak - the Capitol years. He was "The Voice."
so beloved....thank you
Somefavs, we are all at the mercy of info sites. I cannot be angry at IMDb as it continues to improve and is all we have - at the moment. I knew Marc Wilder so it is easy for me to identify him. Marc's dancing was very cool. Jack Boyle was a tap dancer so you have figured it out. We all owe you a big "Thanks" for posting the video and starting this conversation about Marc.
How true how great
Bill Miller at the piano!
4:19 ...he's killing me. Sigh🥰
a superlative singing lesson for Debbie from Frank.
lady did it all very good . i can't think of 1 bad film or song .singing in the rain was 1 st time she dance , she held up . looked like a old pro to me
Gone forever.
Great song, haha.
love it!!
Me too (musical junkie). The name of the movie is: The Tender Trap
Glad you liked it :)
Great! America was so much better in those day!
この映像をはじめて見ました。最高です。素晴らしい。
Annette - the pleasure is mine! Other films you can find on TH-cam in which Marc is featured are "Party Girl" in which he dances with Cyd Charisse; "The I Don't Care Girl" where he dances with Mitzi Gaynor and Matt Mattox to "The Johnson Rag" and "Kismet" in "Not Since Ninevah" with the 3 Asian Princesses and Jack Dodds (who also dances with him in "Party Girl.") You can also find him in lots of TV shows of the 50s-'60s. A great dancer and a kind man who died much too young.
OMG it IS Marc Wilder. Just watched the movie again and realized that this WASN'T the audition. There was an earlier scene with a guy tapping. That must be Jack Boyle. I'm excited because I have a crush on this dancer and could not find anything else by him on video so thanks to your comment, I searched YT and found "garden of Eden" (boy is he buff in that one) and the Sleeping Beauty Ballet So gracefully he danced with Cid. That's what I liked about his dancing. And that he made his partner shine.
Does anyone know where I can buy the sheet music for the piano accompaniment that Sinatra plays?
You ain't gonna buy that piano arrangement...it was made specifically for the film, and the only place that would be available is from MGM ( if it even exists, as much or if not most of their sheet music was trashed by the powers that be in the late 60's and ended up in a landfill by the San Diego Freeway...
This is rotting in someone's basement somewhere.
We have Kirk Kerkorian to thank for that, from what I've read.
That's the late, great Bill Miller playing that piano part. Nobody else plays like that. Can't buy it in sheet music.

I got the info from IMDB. It credits Jack Boyle as being the audition dancer and this scene is the audition scene. I just went back to IMDB and saw the credit for Marc Wilder but as the ballet dancer. I can't remember a ballet scene in the movie so that's odd, right. Maybe they got the credits wrong. I'll have to check this info out further. Thanks for the input.
喜んであなたはそれを楽しんで (I hope Google translator did a good job of saying "I'm glad you enjoyed it")
What happened to the last 20 seconds
He was right let it settle a bit 🤣
ahh...he makes me weak in the knees
NIce.
Not to incur polemics: am inclined to understand that Charlie Reader's opinion in regards to Julie's (Debbie Reynolds) allegedly "schmaltzy" rendition did not at all refer to Marc Wilder's admittedly cool initial dance number (of which we see no alteration later on). Rather, Charlie would have meant the vocal delivery of the song.
Compare, if you will, Sinatra's "...boy, then, SNAP!" with Julie's.
Or also: "...and soon there's muuusic in the breeze..."
And: "...when her kisses make you...TIN-gle..."
"And all at once it seems SO nice...," etc.
Now, that's the way to not toss away a song.
I've never seen this movie but I bet Debbie and Frank are going to end up in a love affair...based on what's transpiring here. The song lyrics are going to come true.
hebneh If you need it is called “The Tender Trap” 1955
Come see come sigh lol
Would take more than a singing lesson from Sinatra to make Debbie Reynolds a singer, God knows how she became a musical star. Wen you consider other MGM musical stars Jane Powell, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne and last but not least the incomparable Judy Garland. Little wonder Warner Bros dropped Debbie Reynolds after they signed Doris Day, an excellent singer and dancer.
Sorry, that was brother! He's big on old movies and likes things to be impeccable in relating to them.
She can sing like that Its part of the script ffs, Its called acting.
Well yeah, Frank, of course Debbie didn't get the feel of the song. No one can out-sing or interpret songs better than you did.
Love the way people dressed back then. These days people dress like slobs.
Frank and Debbie had no chemistry in this film, she was not his type, she was a bit of a girl scout, they looked more like brother and sister, Frank looked better with the beautiful women of Hollywood.
Seems some old hag is jealous
Frank and Debbie were a great team and I enjoyed their scenes together , otherwise I found the film tedious ; all those girlfriends
constantly passing through his apartment and the wisecracks from Frank and his other co-stars just annoyed me.Sorry.
