Never unnecessarily turn your back on an opponent, especially after only one strike that may or may not incapacitate him. If the strike goes is ineffective without you realising it and are drilled to turn your back like that, he is likely to punch you in the back of the head and then shoot you anyway.
A palm strike with fingers to eyes would have a higher probability of success, even if you miss they eyes the palm would still hit him, do damage and put him out of alignment. Once you have stepped inside the line of fire, you would be better to trap his arm with your left hand and beat him senseless with elbows and knees, before attempting the disarm. He will drop the gun himself if you hit him enough times hard enough and if not, you can make the disarm while remaining side on and keeping your eye on the opponent.
Also, the parry with the palm facing inwards and then turning it over, increases the risk of the opponent pulling the gun out of grasp, before you can get hold of it. You would be better off just parrying and trapping with the palm out in the first place.
