The s3 is nice, trust me it is. But my problem with the s3 is that if you own one, you'll always be wishing you got the rs3, which is the top spec of it's family. But owning a MK8 Gofl R, you already have the top spec.
I have chosen for the Audi because of the modesty of the car. It’s a daily driver in every way. I can drive in comfort and it looks like a normal Audi A3 and when I’m on the highway I can go in dynamic and follow all the fast cars. It’s nice to walk to the car all day, so I would recommend this car to everybody who wants a decent drive and it feels a little better on the inside vs the golf. I had the golf a couple days and it’s a great car but at the end it’s about your taste and style.
Very nice review. For me I needed the extra room for getting the kids easier in and out of the car seats in the back. Otherwise both great. Can’t go wrong either way
Golf R all day. The S3 is nice, but the Golf R is way more fun to drive with that rear diff and being a hot hatch it's just cooler overall in my opinion.
I intended to replace my 2016 VW Golf R with a 2024 Golf R, but the VW dealers throughout California had apparently "separately" decided to ask for a $15,000 premium for the 2024 Golf R over MSRP. I intended up buying a year-end 2023 Audi S3 at a significant discount which made it just a couple thousand over the Golf R MSRP. After a month and a half of ownership, I'm still smiling and while I loved my 2016 VW Golf R, I find that I have plenty of love in my heart for a new companion.
The S3 is obviously far superior in every possible way. And i'm totally not saying that because i just bought one last week ;) Seriously though, the S3 won it on looks for me, both exterior and interior, and there's a bunch of options you can't get on the golf. But the golf obviously has the rear diff, and the akrapovic exhaust option, so in that aspect it has the upper hand. Bottom line, go with the one that steals your heart, you can't go wrong with either one of these if you're looking for a great daily driver that packs a punch.
@@JVette01 Ow there's a whole bunch, the audi configurator allows for a lot more individualisation. Just to name a few, there's the sunroof, or having the roof itsself in black. You can have the chrome details and the audi logo's blacked out in 2 different "stages", the spoilers in either black or carbon, same thing for the mirrors. You can have 360 degree cameras instead of just rear/front. You can have the steering wheel round, or with a flat bottom. Lots of small details like that. Of course each with their own pricetag :)
@@JVette01 I'm in europe btw, not sure if there's different options available or not available elsewhere. Maybe the states is a different story. I guess the states didn't even have the matrix headlights and the sportback version for the S3. So my experience might not be the sameas elsewhere.
Love my S3, had been looking at the Golf R for a while but tbh I’d rather have a sedan/saloon rather than a hatch…just a personal preference. I also do not like the gloss black…I bought one of the red pieces that would go over the gearshift area, but it didn’t do it for me when I was putting it on the first time w/o the adhesive. I’m thinking of trying to find a black perforated leather “sheet” that I could put over the red piece…Thinking it’d be a lot more subtle with the red just peeking out from the perforations! Or just use the red piece as a template for a solid leather piece, cut it to fit and then glue it…
Both are amazing cars ,i would have both to be honest even though i love the golf r more, i love the s3 aswell, and omg the turning radius on the s3 is insane, i knew it was good but didnt know it was that good
Which one would I pick? Answer is (as you know) both(lol). Even though they are very similar, they are also very different. I love both our 23 R and 22 S3. I enjoy the Audi a little more. Seats are more comfortable. I am tall and the seat extension makes it more comfortable for long drives. R is a little faster since it is 300 lb lighter. Audi has a better sound (sounds like a 5 cylinder). They are both great cars.
Waiting on the 2025 S3 that comes with the 8R/RS3 diff. I feel like this diff would make the S3 a true driver's car. Wouldn't really buy a current gen S3 cos I'd be knowing I missed out 😂
The only reason why the S3 lost because it still has the EA888 Gen3 , not Gen4 in the R. This might be the best golf ever or ... never hahah. Mk8 is the last gen
S3 trans tuning is literal garbage stock. R Nurburgring mode alone makes drivability a million times better. I owned an 8Y S3 and now the 8 R, the Golf is the better driving car, the S3 is the better built car.
S3 all the way. I can’t deal with the shitty infotainment and driving assistance issues. About the diff. No a big deal, 99% people pick the R because the diff. Probably never use it 🤣.
lots of comparison chatter but everyone is missing one thing - there is a 10K price difference to spec them pretty equal. In that case the Golf R beats the audi for value/fun factor hands down. More HP, rear diff, heated and cooled front seats, heated steering wheel (shame on you audi - 59K car and cant get heated wheel or cooled seats), heated back seats, way more overall storage for life's uses and the list keeps going.
You seem to have found little to nothing better in the 8 R vs the S3 - you should rather get a S3.. S3's a nice car but it has no spot light when a R shows up
Thank you guys for watching! Next video will be a race (in Mexico) so stay tuned! *This was filmed when my Golf R was still stock

That is very true!
lol. I own a M8R and keep wondering if I should have waited on an RS3. Life is full of choices….
@gregoryneal2852 that's disappointing man, you should sell me the 8R on the cheap and go chase your dreams....
@@MeltingRubberZ28 😀
Thats not true I got the S3 because I prefer the subtle look of it but on the other hand the 2.5 is the better engine.
The rear diff on the 8R was the deciding factor for me. I think that makes the vw the slightly better car.
Very true. The diff is nice!
Yeup! Driving both the Golf R feels more lively day to day
Yeah I feel like the Golf R is more of an enthusiast's car. The S3 is just for someone who wants to look rich because they drive an Audi lol.
@@NJRacer623 The Audi has a nicer interior.
@@amiller2121the S3 definitely has a nice interior for sure, but the Golf R is still the better car to drive.

I had a golf R a few years ago and loved the subwolfer
Both are amazing cars! Can’t wait to see them race against each other!
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned. In the 15th the video will be live
Im getting one or the other. Going test drive today!
R all the way! However, the S3 might have more discounts/incentives.

I'm going for the Golf R because its a hatchback and has a subwolfer. The sportsback S3 is not available in the USA .

@@JVette01Nah man. 2022 still have the old EA888 Gen3 engines. I was surprised too.
Not here in the United States. MK8R and 8Y S3 share the same engine/turbo. My tune literally says (for 8Y S3 or MK8 Golf R)
This is a long wait😳😞

I most certainly use mine. Never had an issue with the driver assistance stuff on my R and my 2022 GTI as well.
I own an 8y s3 and I bought it due to the crazy mark ups on the mk8R. Also, the buggy errors the mk8’s are having with the steering wheels.
Congrats!
