Handong's voice gets over looked at times I think because she doesn't have the same type of raw power that some of the other members have but she can make it so delicate that it sounds like it's going to shatter into a million pieces and it's just gorgeous. It carries so much emotion and when she has those moments in songs when the instrumentation cuts out her voice just hits like nothing else. When you get around to some of her solo work and her covers you'll really get to see how versatile it is. Deja Vu is a masterpiece, it's so good, and to think it was a collaboration for a mobile game of all things.
A mobile game is hilarious for how beautiful this song is. Those quiet prechoruses are what make these songs special and they specifically need to not be powerful in order to make the chorus hit harder
@@compactrhythm Yup! I think that's one of the main things I love about Dreamcatcher, the dynamics. They have a lot of push and pull in the instrumentation and the vocals which makes the songs way more interesting, IMO. Each song feels like a journey, even the b-sides in genres that don't normally have as much movement in their arrangement. It's one of the things that makes a song sound like "Dreamcatcher" even if it doesn't have rock elements.
@@compactrhythm The mobile game was named King's Raid. It's dead by now even if there are some fans that have been working on a public version. The double sun you screen capped from the MV and some of the other scenes resembles the world in which the game took place. Also the leather coats that they dance in was the costume of a character that was introduced around the same time in the game. A version of Siyeon singing the start screen song was also featured in the game until the update of the game that followed. You'll find it by searching "[KING's RAID] Blind Days (Covered by Dreamcatcher Siyeon) | Lyric Video" on the King's Raid channel. There is also a lyrics video of Deja Vu on the King's Raid channel. Dami was featured in anti bullying song for the game about a year after Deja Vu... and then there was an anime made based on the game were Dreamcaher made one of the title songs.
Handong Supremacy is a thing the DCC producers do creating Dreamcatcher songs which they can do ONLY with Dongie because her voice is so resonant. Most of the music drops out and nearly a capella they let Handong's voice resonate through the audio space taking the song to its softest point, then immediately start contrasting that with building to the harder parts of the song where other members take over. Barama burara during Wind Blows is a great example of Handong Supremacy, Holding This Pain is the most famous.
Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions, while the abused find themselves in an endless Deja Vu.
As a Dreamcatcher fan I would say that we probably won't get a song like Deja Vu again. Dreamcatcher has a concept of a mix of kpop with rock and metal, and Deja Vu is a song that really symbolizes that, after its release critics said Deja Vu is 100% rock ballad, in other words; Deja Vu is too perfect, hard to repeat. Besides the main title and official comeback, this song is tied to the promotion of the game King's Raid. What's unique about this song is that it's not like the average other promotional songs, this song sounds sincere by its creator, the work is so serious about the concept of loss without exaggerating the visuals of the story. Bon Voyage might be the closest thing we get, but the nuances of misery, majesty, loneliness, sadness combined with a slow rock ballad without eliminating the kpop in it, it can't be denied that Deja Vu stands alone in the middle.

The duality of Dreamcatcher is real. For all the power and ferocity they show in songs like Scream and Maison, they have a dozen gorgeous, sensitive ballads that make a lot of people emotional even without understanding the lyrics. Heart of Sunflower is a big one, Dear was written by JiU. Still waiting for your reaction to the Dreamcatcher reggae song July 7th 😉. Sadly Handong doesn't have much screen time in this one, she is the one sitting on the table surrounded by black armors. I really like her voice and even more when she sings with a deeper tone.
Handong holding this pain is still the single most iconic line in Dreamcatcher’s discography even after all these years.
Hold up...
@@TheGroovyJones I'm a geek, the big paradox
When Handong holds this pain, we all hold this pain
