      Phillip Yun Will you be doing more tutorials, Mr. Yun? Any further advice on sparring much taller opponents with long reach?

    Great explanation & examples! Thank you for the video, Philip! Love this series on focusing on a specific component of the Sport - hope you will continue to go into diverse aspects of Taekwondo sparring. It was also really cool to see USA Taekwondo promote your channel on their Facebook page!

    What're some good ways to increase endurance in sparring?

    • @itsenzothephillip
      @itsenzothephillip  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +James Lee I'd say fight endurance is 80% mental and 20% physical. This is a topic I like to cover in my #yunshow seminars. I prefer to teach some concepts in person rather than over video.

    Mr. Yun, your cancellations look almost like knee blocks or that you're attacking the leg. This is legal in USAT and WTF competitions?

    • @itsenzothephillip
      @itsenzothephillip  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Josh Peacock Great question. Like I said, "cancelling" will not be penalized as long as you're not HITTING the leg. Also, just as long as you're cancelling cut kicks that are above the waiste, you won't be penalized. Referees used to be a little divided on how to make the call in this situation but now they're united in the sense that they don't call anything.

    • @joshpck
      @joshpck 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So don't make explosive movements when using these cancels?

    foot work, foot work, foot work..... cutting was used to build on attack and or defense. not the entire match, just saying....

      agree, new fighting style is much less watchable thanks to overwhelming use of the cut kicks. but this video is great in showing simple ways to avoid these annoying, but effective attack technique

    • @kbagnellart6812
      @kbagnellart6812 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its un-watchable in my opinion ... I was in TKD for eleven years ... it used to be about speed and variety and power and spinning techniques .. to be fare the contestants used to be more standoffish and measured which was also boring at times - but now its playing footsies for 90 percent of the matches ...

    • @eastcoasttaekwondo3099
      @eastcoasttaekwondo3099 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya, I remember in the old days of full contact TKD, no one would use their front leg much, and if you held your front leg in the air like that, it was almost a death sentence. But that was the style back in the 90's, I guess the world has changed, lol

  • @MissTeriGamer

    might be as cancelling the cut kick by kicking balls 😂✌️

    if taekwondo remain the foot fencing sport and less a combat sport, it will lose its popularity. i dont think it evolving in the right direction. do we really need body guards, we look like pussies compared to other martial arts. they should be used for novice fighters. professional fighters must have strong enough body. ok, there will be more injuries, but come on, taekwondo is still martial art. even football is more dangerous, let alone rugby.

    • @itsenzothephillip
      @itsenzothephillip  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the federation is more about expanding its membership. Majority of Taekwondo sparring athletes are young kids. Believe it or not, most parents do not want to put their kids in danger.

    • @eastcoasttaekwondo3099
      @eastcoasttaekwondo3099 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with you in the sense that most parents do not want their kids to be put in danger, but I do feel the sport is too watered down to what it once was. I admit that a lot of the sparring and training from 20-25 years ago was rough, even brutal at times, but there need to be some type of balance. TKD is still supposed to be a martial art first and foremost, but it is not a very respected martial art anymore, which truly does bother me because I love TKD. If it keeps going the way it is, it is going to lose even the little respect it does have. I understand the federation might be trying to increase membership, but its selling out. TKD is losing its integrity for the sake of popularity and in the end it will have neither.
      Please don't take this as a comment against you personally, Phillip I know it isn't your fault. I love your channel and think that your videos are great. I am just venting about the current state of things in TKD in general. All in all though keep up the great work

      these "techniques"that were used by fighters, when i was fighting... were called CHICKEN/ BITCH FIGHTERS...most k
      oed in 2nd round.. NO techniques... just cheap shots 100 % of the time.... ridiculas...my students will NEVER learn the coward type of fightung these footfencers are doing today...this will also pass & REAL TKD will clean out this sorry chicken techniques when0 they bring back "TREMBLING SHOCK".. If u dont know what i mean... look up real tkd rules of the 80/90/early 2000....
