Besides being a valuable player, he seems to be a lovely person as well. Toulouse is really fortunate to have him. I Hope he will thrive in the "pink city" as we say in France.

I always found something different and special in Jack since his very first game a Wasps. Top bloke. So glad he made this far after all the troubles he been through. A legend in the making.

Irishman, Ireland fan here. More and more I like the English lads, especially these geezers here. Jack Willis is sound, as we would say. It's all good lads. Fair play.

First off I loving the podcast and the lock-in.
Great that Jack has landed on his feet.
The debate on the best loose forwards combo. They were all great. But I’m not sure what McCaw and co could of done more. They were so balanced as a trio for the All Blacks. Keep up the chat.

Yet another good show. Jack Willis comes over as a really level-headed guy. Let’s hope the RFU don’t screw up the opportunity to take the pressure off the Premiership and allow Steve Borthwick to select the best possible players available, irrespective as to whether or not they ply their trade overseas or in England!
I have a challenge for GBR (the three of you) … to come up with a proper rousing anthem for England to get the players and supporters up for their matches. I realise this might place Mike in a difficult position but ‘God Save the King’ really doesn’t do it and with all the colonial/Empire connections, all it serves to do is wind up the opposition … but not it seems inspire the English players! Surely it shouldn’t be beyond the wit of some of your musician connections? All our opponents seem to have rallying anthems and ours just sounds like a dirge! It would be brilliant if it could be in place before the World Cup …!

Anyone that knows anything about the finances of the English Premiership knew the moment wasps launched their 6% bond issue it could only ever be a ponzy scheme and the club was doomed from that moment onwards. Their demise was inevitable

"All the zeros on the contract" it would appear most English journos are not aware of the balance of salaries in European rugby, especially between Premiership and Top 14. I can very much guarantee Jack Willis is not on what he was at London Wasps or if he is, he was not on much at all. There are two kind of players: marquee players and the rest. The rest is in the 80-220K/year zone and in this zone, there is no difference between the Premiership and the Top 14. On the contrary to popular English belief, where the Premiership is a far bigger spender than the Top 14 is on the marquee players. Take the Top 20 highest salaries in Europe, 80% are in the Premiership. The highest French international earner in the Top 14 is Gael Fickou at 690K/year, compare that with Owen Farrell at 850K/year or Maro Itoje at 800K/year. Antoine Dupont does not even make the Top 5. Romain N'Tamack is on 380K/year before tax when Marcus Smith is on 460K/year. The salary cap in the Top 14 has been decreased and it still is decreasing year after year. The Premiership wants to increase theirs which sounds logic only the salary spending of their clubs is already much higher than that of the Top 14 clubs. How does the Bristol Bear afford a player at 1 Million/year (Charles Piutau) and another at 600K/year (Semi Radradra if I recall) when Stade Rochelais highest ever earners of all time are Victor Vito (now retired) and Uini Atonio on 400K/year. And again, have a look on the Top 20 salaries in Europe, Genge is above Baille and Atonio, and most of the French internationals don't even make the list. You even have retired players like former England scrum half Danny Care above Dupont... so there is a serious fantasy and disconnect between what you guys adevrtise and what the reality is. If you think the Premiership will get back just by increasing your salary cap, go for it but the wake up is going to be tough. The Top 14 is stronger because it is more COMPETITIVE, it has PROMOTION and RELEGATION, it has strong LOWER DIVISIONS, the ProD2 and the Fédérales. I don't even know what the lower divisions of English rugby are and I lived in the Midlands for two years. Why did Worcester and London Wasps disappeared altogether from the surface of the Earth? Because the Premiership clubs don't spend wisely, they don't spend long term, they don't spend players development and the RFU certainly does not spend much towards amateur and grass root rugby either. The Premiership is a very aristocratic club, no one comes in if not invited and guess what the lower divisions are not invited. So what is going to be the plan for the Premiership once the salary cap has increased? The exact same it has been for the past 20 years: speculating. It is a speculative bubble, Owen Farrell's 850K/year is going to be beaten and so will Charles Piutau's 1 Million. Will it help England? Are English internationals really worth the money they are on? Are foreign players on the Premiership really worth the money they are on? Are English clubs prepared to reverse this speculative market and invest in young players for the long ride? Jack Willis would not be on much, he is not a marquee player and he was out of a club so Stade Toulousain would have got him for a bargain. Flament, Jelonch, Cros, Marchand, Mauvaka, Jaminet, none of these Toulousains French Internationals are in the Top 20 of the highest earners, Willis is not going to be on marquee level because the Top 14 are controlled by the DNCG so they don't go bust like Bourgoin or Albi and get relegated for financial struggle. See if the Premiership had a relegation / promotion system maybe Worcester and the London Wasps be still alive in the lower divisions, just like Biarritz, Grenoble, Perpignan, Albi, Brive, Agen, Pau, Bayonne and other Top 14 clubs do every now and then when the results on the pitch are not there. The salary cap increase in the Premiership is going to send more clubs to oblivion the way salaries have exploded in the Premiership. What do Stade Rochelais, Brive and RC Toulon have in common? They have all won the European Cup (the Champions Cup - the big one) and what else? They have all played in 2nd Division (ProD2). That is the definition of SPORT and this is why the Top 14 is more interesting and popular than the Premiership, Super Rugby or Pro14.

The RFU have to wake up and change the overseas player rule. We need the best 23 in our National squad. We will see a talent leak as long as the Prem is uncompetitive financially.
