    I love Thai food too!!! It is probably Thai chilis that is making it spicy. Thai restaurants usually give you the option to make it less spicy. I'm glad that you got to try these foods. Another great video @The Trips!

    som tum is $12.75 !!!. In Thailand, som tum, pad Thai or other typical dishes usually cost $2 - $3 at tourist areas and $1.5 at any local areas (size of each dishes may be smaller but fit for one person).

    "We're traveling with our tongues." 🤣Pad Thai is dependable. Never had a bad experience with taste and comes thru each time. I am eyeballing mango sticky rice. Never had it. Will look out for it. Thanks The Trips!

    Thailand is the city of smiles that are ready to be given to everyone who visits Thailand. Thai people are always ready to lend to you and it is a smile of friendship, generosity and the joy of meeting, regardless of whether you and he or she have known each other before. That's the charm of Thai people. You should try to experience.

    They put chili peppers in the Som Tum. I love Pad Thai and Coconut Sticky Rice. I can tolerate spicy but I don't like it when it's the only thing I can taste.

    Hi, I am Thai and I say your reaction made my day ;)
    I am telling you one by one.
    1. Som Tum : well actually, if you will oeder Somtum next time, you could order it with least spicy level, or just tell the vendor "one chili please"
    2. Chicken Pad Thai : Well, you will never find a chicken pad thai in Thailand. It just never exist. We have an ordinary pad thai with no meat, or with prawn, or with seafood, but never chicken pad thai which I never had one in my life.
    3. Mango Sticky Rice : I could not see one mango. So this is definitely NOT a mango sticky rice. Mango sticky rice does not have coconut pieces, or sesame in it.
    Geniune Mango Sticky Rice : mango, sticky rice, coconut milk, crunchy golden bean on top of everything.
    I dont know what you had, but definitely not the mango sticky rice I know.
    Anyway, enjoy our Thai cuisine. It is totally ok that you say to the restaurant least spicy or mild spicy level that you may really enjoy. Have a happy yummy day ;)

      Thank you! We love comments like these that help us better understand the cuisine we ate 😀. Interesting what you said about chicken pad Thai. Sometimes traditional cuisine gets modified by North American chefs, sounds like that’s the case with chicken pad Thai. Thank you for the great comment and watching! Cheers!

    I want you guys to try to go to Thailand once to try the taste of authentic Thai food that will open the world for you to know the taste that is different from the food you have ever eaten. Then go to experience the beauty of the tourist attractions and the different cultures. And the friendliness of the Thai people there with a smile that he is always ready to have for you..

  • @DavidWardle
    @DavidWardle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That looked so good. I do a great Thai green curry (even if I do say so myself).I love these tastes of the world, can't wait to see your Scottish one, I don't think there will be much as most is banned or will give you heart failure. Keep going with these, they are great fun

    • @TheTrips
      @TheTrips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David, we're having a great time exploring foods of the world! Scottish might be tricky for us, we have some British grocers here, but not sure how much authentic Scottish food they stock. We'll have cook it ourselves too... a recipe for disaster in itself, haha.

    I'm Thai. The way you try Som Tum is not for beginner, especially those who are not familiar with spicy food (so it's like you eat a mouthful of wasabi). Actually Pad Thai and Som Tum are good combination. Next time you should try 90% of Pad Thai and 10% of Som Tam in one bite (or another portion up to you). Then you will more enjoy the balance of Thai food flavors.

    • @TheTrips
      @TheTrips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for this! Makes so much more sense to reduce the amount of Som Tum, it was sooo spicy! Really appreciate the tips.

    Seeing the freak-out at the heat level got me thinking it might be fun to see you try some Sichuan food sometime.. Look up some photos of Chingqong Chicken, just to see the number of chillies! The Sichuan “peppercorns” that they use (not an actual peppercorn, just a name!) have a slight numbing effect to help counteract the heat - the sensation is called “ma la”, which translates to “numbing spicy”. The three best dishes to try (with plenty of plain white rice!) are probably the aforementioned Chongqing Chicken, Twice-cooked pork (f’ing delicious,) and the original Sichuan version of Kung Po/Gong Bao Chicken :)

    • @TheTrips
      @TheTrips  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! We're self admitted spice wimps, but the numbing effect you describe sounds interesting. Might be a hard sell, but I'll bring it up at our next video planning session. Thanks for watching!

    Not sure if the Thai food you're eating here is buying from a Thai restaurant that is owned by Thai people, but if you really want to get a taste of Thailand you'll need to buy it from a Thai restaurant that is owned. The restaurant is authentic Thai or you go to Thailand and you will know how authentic Thai food tastes. Because in Thailand, you will get to know the word truly delicious. A taste that is both delicious, hot, juicy and sexy.

  • @Kevin-zi9ku
    @Kevin-zi9ku 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    $19 for a pad thai is outrageous, absurd pricing. Is this a major city like New York, LA, or SF? where I live it cost around $10, half that price!

    • @TheTrips

      Thanks so much for watching Kevin! Sadly we're just used to paying more for food here, it seems like everything we try is always more expensive here in Canada.

  • @krisch13

    Where you ordered those menus, as a Thai I think it is so far away from authentic Thai food except PadThai, Somtum should be sweet sour salty spicy, the very bad is mango sticky rice.

    umm, maybe the tamarind was in the other dish, lol. sorry about that guys. yes, try a pho, it's a famous thai dish, it's soup i think. see you soon xo. but after watching more of your video instead of commenting right away, i'm totally lost about pad thai ingredients. i must google it now.

    The Trips and their traveling tongues. Pfft the Pad Thai is easily a single serving size for a beezer. LOL yes! The Som Tom can seem very misleading if you've never had it before. Papaya salad sounds cool and refreshing. What? Rice is strange for dessert Kelz? So does Mochi or rice pudding mean nothing to you? 😉
